I think that Morgana's dreams of a shadow version of himself were a red herring in case you didn't see the Akechi heel-turn telegraphing. Having a turncoat in the group was only raised in the opening of the game and paid off 30 to 40 hours later. So offering multiple suspects wasn't even necessary per se. I totally forgot that Sae even mentioned a betrayer by the time that Akechi's true nature was revealed.

All waifus are totally viable in this game. There's no reason for anybody to argue because there's no bad waifus.

Except for Oya. We can all agree that Oya is trash.

@asmo917: yeah. I liked Ryuji at first, but he just wouldn't stop complaining and yelling, even Kanji didn't do that.

i agree with Alex about the main cast.

i much preferred P4 cast ,but that's mainly because i was given many more opportunities to hang with them in high school silliness. P5 didn't help having yusuke in a different school,so he always felt distant to me.

The beach served as a nice way to integrate futaba,and i did chuckle along with the picking up girls scene~~(though if we are honest,its NOTHING to p3s scenes ,which had full dialogue) ,but the camping trip had projectile vomit,kanji manhood explaining,king moron drunkeness and the swimsuit scene

the trip was a wash since it was the joke of"hey,we are doing the same things at home",with the only main hang out being who your date was(which was hifumi,which is sillier since she is in yusuke's class,so the whole surprise storm thing seemed like they wrote themselves into a corner)

then i take p4s iwatodai trip,with references to P3,the final diner trip,the kings game,the school throwback and a little snippet of your personas lore which just brought me closer to the group as a whole

i still like p5s group,its just i wish i could have had some more opportunities to get to laugh and connect with them more...........also Chie will never be replicated,she is the one and only tank kicking, steak eating,fillet mignon singing queen

and for bests....casino,the bank theme(cant help bob along to it) and not sure of best girl but a toss up between hifume,makoto,kawakami and haru

Regarding Akechi, I actually believed he was good especially because of the behind-the-scenes Confidant levelling and unlike Ben, I caught the pancakes comment but that played into my narrative of Secret Good Guy. I was blinded by the fact that he had significant better magic moves than my entire team at the time that he was almost one-shotting enemies, so I was sad when he 'left' the team. It prompted me to go grind out levels consequently but I BELIEVED. I actually thought Makoto was going to be the traitor at the point because she didn't want to compromise her sister. It all made sense in my head and I thought I was super smart...

Not one mention of Igor? That was the biggest reveal for to me.

Also am I the only person in the world who wasn't confused by the Aketchi trap?

@amotter: I was just about to comment that. That they tied in Igor's voice change to the actual plot blew my damn mind. And no, the Akechi trap made sense to me, but I understand how it would be really weird to work out. I think the issue with it is how much of it came down to dumb luck.

Seriously it's the single biggest plot twist in the entire franchise. It was the one thing that I can say I didn't see coming at all.

The biggest issue I had with the game is that it gives the SUI Director too much goddamn screen time. All he does is cackle about how evil the plan is how and meddling the Phantom Thieves are and then he dies. You never once meet him face to face with the main party. It's stupid. For all that time he sucks up they could have used on more party interactions and other good things.

It's the most baffling part of that game, for me.

@dprotp: In short, I liked all the human characters and interactions in it, with constant cutscenes of what was happening outside. I liked all of the phantom thieves taking turns to charm the yakuza and hacker and so on, I liked finally beating the villains I KNEW were the villains from the first time I saw them 90 hours ago, and the Shido boss rush that turned into the final boss from Metal Gear Rising was so much fun. I didn't particularly like or dislike the mouse puzzles more than the stuff in the other dungeons.

Having said that, I think all of the dungeons were enjoyable. I respect every choice there.

Just wanted to point out that there was a reference to Persona 4 in the game, Rise.

She's still doing her idol thing and appears on tv, in ads in the train station, and you can also get a poster of her for decoration in your room. Thought it was a nice little bonus.

I'm on the last dungeon on my 2nd play through and so far have had no repercussions for dating everyone. So looks like everyone can be your bestgirl...

Also Rivers in the Desert is the best music track especially paired with fighting Justine and Caroline. Made the fight more sinister. The song also plays during the Shido fight but minus the vocals.

I haven't played any P5 but I'm going to listen to this anyways.

Can't listen to this yet, but I'm so happy to see more spoilercasts! Conversation about deeper aspects of games is far too rare.

I dated the goth doctor and I still think Makoto is the best.

Also, best song is either Rivers In The Desert or Layer Cake.

I wish you guys talked more about what you liked, it kinda felt like 50ish minutes of nitpicking and criticizing.

Also, Persona 5 is really good, it was everything I wanted and more. I'm definitely glad at least some of the staff got to play and finish it.

I'm confused why Alex says it's split. Although the game wasn't perfect, I think the reaction to the game has been overwhelmingly positive. Other than the stupid streaming stuff everyone I've seen really enjoyed it.

Also the Igor plot-twist was the big plot-twist and it really was surprising and super interesting.

My favorite track is the weapon shop music called Layer Cake. Oh god the bass in that song is so good.

@msta: I've talked to a number of people who said it's the most disappointing game they played all year. I'm definitely not in that camp, but I've heard it often enough to have the impression there's a not insignificant number of people out there who don't like it at all.

To the Igor questions, honestly, that twist didn't really blow me away? I dunno, something about the voice change gave me the impression from the get-go that something would likely crop up around that, and when it happened, I was just like, "Oh. Okay. So that makes sense."

I think I may just be the wrong person to have react to something like that, because again, I don't have that deep well of series familiarity, so I don't have a lot of feelings around Igor to begin with.

We might not be able to agree on Makoto being best girl, but can we all agree that Mishima is the worst? I think even in passing Alex and Ben mentioned every confidant besides Mishima, because he SUCKS.

@joeblank: Yeah, the beat of that song has stuck with me. They really go the extra mile in making even the relatively minor musical accompaniments still total fucking jams.

Besides this, the TV in the cafe starts having news segments about other Persona characters during the later months. One of them mention some cop from Persona 2, Chie from P4 and Akihiko from P3. Another talks about the cute hostess of the Amagi Inn. There's one for Rise too, and someone in the P5 thread mentioned Namatame got back into politics and is mentioned.

Repairing the laptop is the best cameo, though.

I mean, I agree, but he also sucks the best. Here's an entire game of good people who's only flaw is getting abused by authority and not speaking up about it enough, and then there's Mishima. Abused, bullied, beaten up, and the audience and everyone involved still thinks he's complete garbage because of the personality and tics he's picked up as a result of that abuse. He actually has to work on himself more than he has to defeat people who trashed him. He's the only confidante where the shadow you have to defeat in mementos for him is himself. That's only him and Futaba, and I think that's what makes both of them some of the best characters in Persona 5.
