Quick Look: Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu!

I was going to get the Eevee edition but seeing Jan pat his Pikachu has 100% sold me on that version. Hearing the little guy happily go "Pika pika!" takes me right back to the original anime. Oh well.

The real travesty here is that Jan chose Pikachu over the clearly superior Eevee.

This looks OK, but the real question is, "can I evolve the titular Pikachu so I can hang around with the way-cooler Raichu?"

I just got to that part of the video. Jan says neither Eevee or Pikachu can evolve. He also mentions that they get around the Eevolutions issue with eevee by letting it learn elemental moves it's evolved forms would learn.

Which is a good solution, I guess if you're hell bent on not letting them evolve.

Finally some Pokemon love on GB! lol I've been enjoying this game, and will probably be an idiot and buy that damn Poke ball.

So, for anyone playing how's the endgame? Like, are there legendaries to go after? Tough trainers to beat?

@vicious17: I am not sure when this actually opens up, but there is a concept called Master Trainers, which populates the world with ~150 trainers each with one of the species of pokemon. Aside from a few who will ask for a favor or give you some sort of sidequest, you will battle them to a mirror match to gain a "title". I would like to say this is endgame stuff since their pokemon are in upward echelon in terms of level and have stronger movesets.

Great game. I had already envision something like this, because Poke Co. had already rendered most of the Gen I pokemon on 3D, so it would be a waste not to make a game like this when Pokemon Go still has its fans (me included). The riding stuff looks amazing and it doesn't disappoint when it comes to pushing new additions to an old series. I was bummed it was going to be Kanto, but hey I really wanted to see that in a better 3D and it looks great.

@janman: There seems to be some confusion on the Pokemon Lore. As an avid manga reader I can confirm that Gio is Silver's father (your rival on Gold/silver) and that in the Kanto region 3 trainers were chosen (red, blue, green) after Red disappearance in the Elite Four, Red's pikachu is able to escape badly injured to pallet town where he meets Yellow (a special trainer able to understand Pokemon) This is why Pokemon Yellow had you face Pikachu and show what his emotions were. If you are interested in the rest the LORE manga is called Pokemon Adventurers and it follows every Gen with their respective trainers.

This game looks fine. I'm mostly here to say @janman is an excellent QL host.

This makes me want to see a video series of Jan catching all the pokemon (and I do mean all of them for the Dex in Pokemon Let's go) and playing the game an what not.

Man this game makes me want a switch and see what the "real" pokemon game Gamefreak is cooking up is. Holy cow beign able to pick the poke battles would be a game changer.

what IS the third starter that is left over in this game???

I was so worried about the random battles being changed, but having the pokemon running around is so much better. Capturing pokemon is quick and fun, and I've spent a lot of time just chaining capturing pokemon looking for the best stats and shiny pokemon.

I haven't used motion controls at all so far, and i've been playing in handheld with no issues at all really.

Anyone who loves mainline Pokemon games should check this out.

The biggest problem I have... is RNG when catching.... no sleep, stun or 1 HP etc etc....

I was firmly against buying LGPE until hearing Jan talk it up on the Bombcast. The pre-conceptions I had are being echoed a lot in this comments section - basically, I was happy to miss it out, knowing a proper new generation was going to arrive in the (near?) future. Jan turned me all the way round on it, and now I'm very glad I bought it.

Really enjoyed this QL. Jan and Ben are a great combo.

I knew Let's Go! wasn't the "full entry" in the series ever since Nintendo/Game Freak specifically said that way back when. But just like we've seen with everything else on the planet, if a company changes up the recipe for something and then suddenly it becomes the biggest, most popular thing on the planet, either developers or the shareholders behind it will push them to shift the core design towards that more popular direction.

What they should've done a decade ago, because it seems completely obvious, is to make an awesome, massive, console-based, open world Pokemon RPG. If something makes sense though, Nintendo doesn't do it.

I'm just being realistic about my expectations. I have had zero interest in the Switch since it was announced, but I always said to myself the one thing that would make me buy one is a big ass, modern Pokemon RPG. I skip most of the handheld ones but I would 100% throw my money at a legit as Pokemon RPG. And that is not the direction I see them going in. I'm betting it'll be very similar to the handheld ones in look and performance, with minor tweaks like usual, and now they'll have weird gameplay tie in stuff with Go! like the pokemon capturing system Lets Go! has.

Why does everyone always ignore the "shake the controller" prompt in this game?

Pikachu wanted to celebrate the gym win with Jan and he completely snubbed it.

Come on guys... we all know Oak was in that town because he was banging the protagonist's (Ash's) mom.
