Quick Look: 100ft Robot Golf

Holy crap, the complete dead lack of music in this was so glaring I'm still half certain something in the game was bugged out. There's just no life to this thing at all.

I'd rather play Dangerous Golf, and that's saying a lot.

Pre-Evangelion, really. Doesn't have that "too crippled by self-awareness to do something like this/complete lack of self-awareness "Rei is muh waifu uguuu" split to it.

I really enjoyed Justin in the Joystiq days, but I think the shtick has worn off on me. I don't find them funny anymore. But thats ok.

Not my cup of tea. I normally love the McElroys, but the commentary sounds like they just phoned it in.

Also feels rather unfinished - needs a bit more love. For example - seeing these big robots stomp around and the camera seems to be unaffected. You could really sell the concept of the stomping with that camera shake.

On the plus side, really like that anime art stuff.

This game is actually making me angry. For some reason people have this weird obsession with using irony in all the wrong places. Irony is supposed to be quick and used in jest. It is ironic to say you are fond of music and like Nickelback, it is not ironic to say you are fond of music and like Nickelback and have actually gone to 27 of their concerts. You are not making fun of the thing, you are the thing! You can't make an entire game with cringey voice acting and laugh it off as irony. All you accomplished was creating a game with bad voice acting.

The anime stuff looks really good and polished compared to everything else in the game. Like, everything else seems intentionally trashy and shallow, as if they tried to mask a lack of ambition with a layer of irony.

Game needs a patch to fix the spelling of "extinguished" in the subtitles at the end!

Alex and Vinny try to let it down softly which leaves a bit of a bad taste. They should be as critical as they need to be without reservation, particularly when they are close to the source.

For me their podcast have little shtick to them, just seem like people making jokes. They're also just fun, smart dudes. Sawbones is great, as is The Adventure Zone. But hey, as we've said, to each their own. All I know is that I will never tire of Justin McElroy, and the same goes for Vinny Caravella.

I was totally not going to buy this, but then Lockdown is the end credits theme and I think I must support a move like that financially.

@steveurkel: your statement implied they arent funny, period. one or even the occasional poor creation from them isn't indicative of their overall quality. but again you're fine to not like what you don't like and i won't hound you for it. personally they've made me laugh harder than anything/anyone has in years.

i would recommend you check out mbmbam or monster factory if this is all you've seen from them, though.

I feel bad, I like the No Goblin guys, Dan and Panzer are fun people, but boy this game is not for me.

I get the aesthetic, I really do, but I just can't stand it. The commentary, the voice acting, all of it just hurts me. It hurts. Bad on purpose doesn't work for games like it does movies, IMO. Sorry, just had to say something about it.

Yeah, I bought this because I love the style and enjoy everyone be involved, but I don't think this is a super fun to play videogame. But yeah, I felt the same way about Roundabout. I like everyone involved enough to support them, but I hope someday they make something that I actually want to spend more time with than "enough to see most of the goofs"

Remember how they brought along that rough prototype for an Unfinished some time ago? Seems like the gameplay didn't improve in any way since then. That's disappointing.

I know it being terrible is the joke, but man, I can't do the voice over.

This seems dull and unfunny. The commentary is like something you'd hear on a YouTube video with less than 100 views.

Oof... A game that marries golf and robots should be way more cool and explosive than what this is. I want to see terrain deform, buildings fall down and robots lose parts when the ball hits them too hard.

I enjoyed Roundabout quite a bit because the FMV was amazing and the actual gameplay was pretty fun as well and it had a nice rhytm to it. This game however, i rather play vertinous golf or a hot shots game or something.

There are elements missing from this game. There's a punchiness to the sound that isn't there, and the lack of music is awful. I liked Roundabout a whole lot, but this game looks like it came from a long game jam.

@dougfunk15: three times apparently. Games made by people they don't know get similar amounts of coverage... Darkest Dungeon got an hour unfinished and an hour quick look and some unprofessional Fridays time. Battlefield Hardline got two unfinisheds and a quick look. Other stuff probably. This isn't an unreasonable amount of coverage.

Dunno about the rest of the game, but the "emergency code: 045...2" line was pretty good.

Nothing about this looks good.

I'm really starting to get frustrated with comment sections lately. Please chill out people.

Alex says up front that he has previously worked with the people that developed this game, and the friendly relationship a lot of the staff has with Dan Teasdale is fairly well known. The GB staff have all been around the games industry long enough that of course they're going to occasionally take a look at games where they're friendly with some of the people affiliated with it.

I personally think that the GB staff has shown many times in the past that they're capable of separating their personal and professional relationships, and I don't see anything here that changes my opinion of that.

I mean...watch the video. It's not even a flattering depiction of the game - they're highly critical of it.

I have to say, this is like a D-tier game. It kind of seems like a college experiment, but fleshed out a little bit too much. Shame, I like all of the people at No Goblin =(

@illrepute: Yeah, whoever decided that there should be no music during gameplay.....made the wrong decision.

Even if the gameplay was better, I think the sound design would let it down big time.
