It's the most idiotic thing I have ever heard Vinny say.

Worded poorly, but judging by the rest of what Vinny said, I am confident that he didn't mean it as "hey, this game is misogynistic" but just "hey, this game is a teenage boy version of Metroid" aka "MAN Metroid, Metroid for tough guys!"

But indeed, he worded it poorly, and even he kind of knew that when he was saying it.

Yup, completely my thoughts too. I thought it was pretty obvious what he was going for.

"I'm pissed that Samus is a girl" is the very definition of misogyny and Vinny knew this because he even stated beforehand that this was his "visceral reaction" and "kind of a shitty thing to say". The rest of Vinny's "argument" was just him trying to backpedal or justify that statement. The "teenage boy version of Metroid" angle was also just a diversion that seems to have fooled some people, but how does "grossness" or "metalness" even relate to the hatred of hidden female characters?!?

Vinny did not use a diversion in order to fool people. I'm gonna say he's not known to have hidden agendas, having angles and conning people. Let's be very rational about this, and not interpret something someone said offhand on a quick look, OK?

Ha-ha, at 2:15 i thought they just had Samus's yellow ship in the background, now i realize its a broken window...

I'd like to play this, but I'm with Vinny when it comes to the sound the default blaster makes. It's terrible and would probably drive me out of my damn mind.

This game seems like it's missing the best part of Metroid: the hand-made levels and the fun sense of exploration.

EDIT: Also, Vinny and Dan were off a bit on their Ridley/Ripley talk. Ridley is the Metroid character. There isn't a Ripley character. Though from what I've read, Metroid is heavily inspired by Alien, so it's not surprising that the names are confusing.

Perhaps we can both agree to do the same? I was original just commenting on what was actually said and how bizarre it was. Now did Vinny really mean for it to come out that way? Probably not, but that doesn't change what he actual said.

I also mean no ill will towards you or Vinny. He's actually my favorite dudder on the site. It was just really painful to watch this whole thing unfold.

Maybe we can all at least agree that it's always a good idea to not say something when you think what you're about to say is shitty.

Sure, definitely. You know, I also say a lot of stuff that I don't think through, but I'm not on camera for an hour every day for years. So, I think we can just move on. I feel bad for us giving this thing so much thought. And internet discussions are not the best thing one can do with their time.

Really not a fan of the sound design. Sounds pretty inconsistent across the board, but the sound of that standard gun was particularly bad. Not only was the base sound of it not great, but it has a pitch/doppler effect that suggests a muzzle velocity that isn't at all matched by the speed of the projectiles coming out of it.

The developers also clearly hadn't thought about how some of their sound effects would sound with continuous fire weapons like that flame thrower.

Feeling is mutual and you make a very good point. I guess I was just really frustrated that Vinny knew what he was saying was probably dumb, but said it anyway and then spent way too much time justifying it with Dan trying to help out with the repeated "I get what your saying". I think it would have been much better if he just didn't say it or admitted is was dumb and moved on. However, I probably could have gone about this better, but yeah it's the internet and you're kind of just shouting into a wind tunnel as Brad of someone once said. So there's not much room for subtlety.

That gun sound effect is driving me crazy. O_o
