Quick Look: AdVenture Capitalist

@bill_mcneal: It's a pretty good point-and-click game with a very interesting story. What's truly special about it though is that it was created by only two people with no prior game making experience. It seems like something the GB East crew would play.

I don't understand the separate planets. They don't seem to affect each other at all so basically you are just playing the same game 3 times with different skins? If they had a shared currency maybe I would get it, but the fact that they are all different with different currency and separate prestige makes no sense to me. Might as well just play 2 separate clickers.

In 2035, call games are now clicker/idle games in which you microtransact per click. They're also bordered by ads.

Gahhh this is so much fun to watch. Getting this game to console was a lot of work believe it or not and I'm glad they seem to think it's crazy stupid awesome.

I like this game because the numbers go up without having to click anything and also when I'm playing it, I'm not doing anything else.

@cripplor: The one difference is that there is a feeling that skill was required to get where you were in an MMO (WoW particularly for me). This type of 'numbers go up' game doesn't appeal to me in the same vein because there's no visible improvement in my play as an individual and as part of a team to accomplish something.

I really don't get clickers. Seeing people enjoying them is super crazy, when I personally derive no pleasure from them.

Really? Because King of Dragon Pass is on phones, as are Downwell; Alpha Bear; 80 Days; Infinity Loop; Cook, Serve, Delicious!; Lara Croft GO; Hitman GO; Deus Ex GO; Ridiculous Fishing; and Out There. There are also good digital versions of modern board games (such as Galaxy Trucker, Small World, Splendor, and Castles of Mad King Ludwig).

I don't know what you're into, but if you don't like idle/clicker games, surely you can find something on phones better for you?

I completely understand why some people don't like these kind of games. On the other hand, I enjoy booting it up, spending what money I've made, then closing it. Obviously, you don't really do anything at all, and a "play session" usually takes about a minute, but I kinda like doing it. No idea why really.

@maynza: The investments on the different planets have different cost and return rates which actually make for quite different experiences. Getting to the moon was quite exciting since everything just sky-rocketed if you invested correctly there, unlike Earth which is very straight-forward and incremental.

Also, you can convert the currency from any planet into mega bucks which allow you to boost the return rates of investments on any planet.

Lets not beat around the bush here. This is basically a paradox game with the geographical and military layers taken out of it.

I can hardly parse any of these "advanced" clicker games. Everything jeff does is total visual nonsense to me besides that the big number at the top of the screen is going up. And because I can't parse the screen, I can't really parse whatever specific mechanics he's trying to explain either.

Maybe starting with a new save rather than jeff's pre-prestige pre-leveled mega save would have helped any of this make sense at the most basic levels? ...Then again, eh, fuck it, who cares, I'll never play shit like this anyway.

At the 11 minute mark I was honestly thinking "What else is he going to show for 19 minutes?"
