Arslan senki was originally a novel series written by the same guy who write Legend of the galactic heroes and at one point was adapted into an OVA in the 90s in 2013 the mangaka of FMA was given licence to do a kind of loss adaptation of the series, the manga she created was used as a base for a 24 episode anime which this game is based on simple

Arslan actually originated as a series of novels in the 80s, and was previously adapted into an 6 episode OVA in the 90s (released as The Heroic Legend of Arislan, because Manga Entertainment felt Arslan sounded a bit too close to Arse-lan).

I'm actually a bit disappointed with the look of the new anime, the designs seem much simpler and lower budget than the 90s one.

I think GBEAST needs to work on there audio mixing and equalizing a bit, austin is coming in way louder than vinny on here. I've been noticing it a bit lately.

Anyway, is this the anime done by the lady who did Full Metal alchemist?

The taint of Dynasty Warriors is strong with this game. You cant spell dynasty without nasty.

Arslan is like that kid in the Ni No Kuni 2: you at first think "boyish-looking girl" then get told "girlish-looking boy".

Man, that kid can do some Winged Hussar shit in a rush zone, can't he?

This sort of thing is probably cuz it's an old IP, but it's good to see the occasional variance from the increasingly large ocean of romcom/slice of life/high school settings recently.

I really liked the anime and find myself tempted to pick this one up after watching the quick look.

@austin_walker maybe you already know this, but Arslan anime was based in in a novel written by the same writer of the Legend of the Galatic Heroes, Yoshiki Tanaka.

I'm not sure I heard the words "Fullmetal Alchemist" once during this quick look.

@austin_walker Being originally a novel written by Yoshiki Tanaka, the Heroic Legend of Arslan has actually gotten a few different adaptations over the years. The anime that you're familiar with is actually based on a manga adaptation done by the woman that also did Full Metal Alchemist.

@austin_walker The Naruto NInja Storm and JoJo games also suffer from having generic themed music instead of the original score, I know it's because of licensing and such but it's a bummer for sure. A lot of charm gets lost because of it.

Man If you're a Dynasty Warriors fan it's a beautiful thing because there appears to be no shortage of games made in that style.

That's probably the nicest thing anyone on this site has ever said about Dynasty Warriors.

The 90s one is an OVA that was released over a 5 year period that is around 4 hours in total. A 25 episode TV series released over 6 months has no way to match that level of quality no matter how much money you pump into it.

Dynasty warriors is okay, inoffensive mindless fun is nice sometimes.

Now Bladestorm, despite it's flaws, is a game I really, REALLY love. I feel a bit ashamed to say I've owned it on 360, ps3 (After the 360 broke) and now on the PC... I don't do that often.

It's flawed as hell, but it's a great and fairly unique game.

Samurai Warriors 4 Empires next month too. If you ask me, Pirate Warriors 3 and Samurai Warriors 4 are probably the best Warriors games to have ever come out. The gameplay's just so fun in them. I'm looking forward to seeing how Samurai Warrriors 4 Empires turns out since Dynasty Warriors 8 Empires was pretty disappointing.

@austin_walker I know it doesn't really mean much at this point, but the last Dynasty Warriors: Gundam let you customize literally every piece of music in the game (including menus!) using MP3s on the PS3. If you can find out what music plays when, you can make it so every time a character from a specific series shows up, that show's theme song plays (or whatever other dumb thing you want). It's a silly thing that vastly improved the game for me.

Also this anime is on Funimation's website for free, and even has a dub (if that's more your thing), though the dub's not free. It has Alphonse's original voice actor as Arslan though! He's super great!

Also also, Daryun looks like a Fire Emblem character.

Austin, you should really play some Hyrule Warriors. It's still the best non-Empires Warriors game.

We really need to get past these "it's like anime" explanations when it comes to explaining story and mechanics in video games. Even if the game in question is based on an anime.

The anime is really good, season 2 is on the way !

Also love the fact that asrlan can fight in the game, in the anime he doesn't do much fighting...

I'm confused, this game didn't start with a Yellow Turban Rebellion.

Come on, its perfectly reasonable after all every anime and anything based on one, is one and the same right.

On a serious note they do need to ease up on that its gone past being funny to just being lazy.

Ending on a hard crash, perfect.

All I want to say is that I immediately recognized that this was the FMA artist based on the thumbnail.

I LOVED the first season of Arslan. It shares a lot of themes and characters from the Suikoden series. If you like that then you should give this show a try.
