I think Alex may have gotten Rogue and Liberation mixed up? I went back to Assassin's Creed 3 and Unity earlier this year and actually enjoyed them more. I either discovered that I did very little in Unity aside from the story, or they put in a lot more content since I played it before.

For instance, something mentioned in this video by Abby was Syndicate's investigative missions where you seek out clues and talk to suspects to find a murderer; Unity had the same exact thing to my surprise and it was no different. The game ran more smoothly than I remember it, and I enjoyed exploring the world.

I didn't finish the story again but did a lot more of the side quests before moving on.

History lesson time! The Medjay havent been around for about 1000 years by the time this game takes place.

But then the game does have eagle drones, so clearly dont go in expecting historical accuracy.

Ancient Egypt is such a cool setting for a video game. I once read that during Cleopatra times most of the pyramids where more ancient to the contemporary people than Cleopatra is ancient to us (by time scale). And don't know if it is true, but it sounds insane. Anyway, I never really played much of the series, but this setting may change that.

Yup, the oldest of them would have been built around 2500 years prior.

@creepingdeath0: They do refer to you as 'the last' so I thought it may come up as a plot point later, hard to tell with the way the game opens.

According to Terry Prattchet's Discworld, Camels can not only spit, but also be very smart mathematicians that use trigonometry and physics in order to maximize the length and power of said spit.

Now as for real Camels, I have no idea.

@ntm: They went back and did a lot of work on Unity after the fact. Im not sure if the missions were changed but they optimized Unity a ton after the fact because they built Unity's engine thinking the current gen consoles would be a lot more powerful. At launch it ran really poorly and had a ton of bugs.

Yeah by the time I got back around to Unity it was mostly fine. It ran well they had taken out all of the awful second screen app chests, or at least the requirements, and I was able to appreciate that actually this game fixed a lot of the really finicky controls of previous games.

The main story was still boring and it was still easy to trivialize all of the combat but it wasn't the trash fire it was at launch anymore.

This is awesome! The E3 and other trailers already sold me on it, and this enforced it further. I'm definitely going to pick this up later (I'm going through my backlog) because this is what I love in games, open world, sandboxes and rpgs are my favorite things, plus I liked every AC.

I think I'd play another Assassin's Creed if it was in a setting I was interested in.

At this point, the only ones I can think of are:

  1. Feudal Japan - Omg ninjas and stuff. It blows my mind they haven't done this yet. I would've expected it to be game #2.
  2. Medieval - They've kinda already done it but I want more. Knights and castles are cool.
  3. Pirates - I'm not normally into this but Black Flag was the last game I enjoyed. Loved the atmosphere and visuals. Colorful.

So yea that's the conclusion I've come to. I look at something like Origins and think.. yea that seems fine. Now put it in a time period I like the look of.

@iwanecky: Yeah, this is very late Egypt. By this time, Egyptian rulers (like Cleopatra) were actually descendants of the Greeks who had invaded Egypt several hundred years before.

Seems like my experience with this series is a pretty common one where I played all the main games up until Black Flag and then dropped off, but now I feel like I might be ready to jump back in.

@seikenfreak: I would love Japan but their previous reasoning has been kinda like.. lots of games go to feudal Japan let's go somewhere else instead.

I think it's probably inevitable though.

Yeah, well those camels live in a planet that's a flat circle spinning on a couple of space turtles.

I upgraded to a 1080 ti and 32 inch 4k acer predator for this game it's so beautiful. Mario, wolfenstein, and destiny 2 all installed but this one really has an incredible graphic style I can't wait to play.

I loved loved loved syndicate. It had the best most violent combos. I sometimes run around murdering people for hours with no aim in that game. I hope this fills my evie void.

I usually love the AC series, and I think it peaked at brotherhood like most people. However, i liked 3 more than 4, and Unity was better than most people give it credit for. AC has always been about jumping from rooftop to rooftop in ancient cities to me, so I liked the games that focused on that.

After playing Syndicate, I think I'm good with AC for good long while. I couldn't care less about this release. They have gone too far from what I liked about Assassin's Creed in the last few releases that they completely lost me. Adding RPG stuff and loot to this game is a big turn off. It's not what I want out of an AC game.

I see Alex is a graduate from Dan's school of stealth.

I really love the eras of Roman and Ancient Greece, so the setting is intriguing. The start of the video made me exited, then fighting happened and the excitement levels went down. Rose agaian, went down and by the end I made peace with it. Vinny expressed my feelings, about fighting in this game, pretty well in the Beastcast. Like you don't do sick combos and you aren't a killing machine ninja anymore.

I'm currently playing Mario, so hopefully when I start it, it's more stable. In the Gamespot review , "persistent technical issues" - were listed as a negative.

@seikenfreak: They specifically said they don't want to do Japan because it's been done to death and boring.

I agree with them. The first AC to hit Feudal Japan will probably be the first one I skip entirely.

Love the setting.

Probably won't pick it up till early next year though, since I'm still in deep on Destiny 2

I feel like Alex was a little impatient with the combat. Lots of wild swinging after each dodge, where it would have landed more hits had he timed them. Most other people have described the combat as 'methodical', but Alex was going full hack-n-slash.

It looks lived in because the time of Cleopatra is chronologically closer to modern day than she was to the construction of the Great Pyramid 2500 years before. This is the end of the Egyptian empire.

I honestly don't get how Vinny's mind was blown by the colored loot. Other action RPGs have had it, and besides that, it's not mind blowing to go from level up mechanics and getting progressively better weapons, to then categorizing the weapons in some way.
