I hope the online for this will be great and that the PC version delay will be worth it.

I associate most of these games with the SNES. Those beat 'em ups were great so both you and you brother could play together and not fight over the video game.

I have been enjoying this thing more than I expected to. It's just nice to have all of these games in one place, even if it's light on features. Also King of Dragons owns, and I always want it close to me

@janman It miiiiiight not be a bad idea to put up a brief epilepsy warning in the description. Some of the games (particularly Battle Circuit at about 42:00) have major full screen strobe effects that might cause problems for some folks. Or maybe not, I don't know. I'm not a doctor.

The only beat em up I ever completed at the arcades was Alien vs. Predator in the 90s. I was in Hawaii on a family vacation and my dad gave me like 2 fists full of quarters and let me play however long I wanted.

That's his US name, but in the Japanese version he's Jennety. If you play MvC1/2, you can hear CapCom call out their Japanese names "Sho" "Jennety" and "Hoover"

Warriors of Fate is apparently based on Tenchi wo Kurau,a manga based on the three kingdoms, written and drawn by Motomiya Hiroshi. He's done a ton of stuff that I've never heard about. The game was localized to have a fantasy setting instead. It's actually the sequel to an older game, Dynasty Wars.

I just looked it up 'cause I thought the retro manga art style sprites looked fun.

If we're forcing the comparison, Golden Axe has more move variety than The King of Dragons, and the gradual collapse of the enemies as you beat 'em up is really satisfying. In The King of Dragons, the enemies go down like cardboard.

While I'm at it, I'll also recommend this VGJunk paean to Knights of the Round.

Huh, these games seem awesome. I love beat 'em ups but my knowledge is sorely lacking compared to Jason.

Upgrades, stories, cool art, and I lost count of how many times an enemy got me to say "look at that fuckin' guy." This sold me.

This totally seems worth $20. Not sure why Jeff keeps harping on how bare bones it is. 7 games with online play and some concept art. What else do you want for $20?

I remember the port for Metal Slug on pc having horrible desync issues, so much that my friend and i were on completely different levels at times, you'd think that these companies atleast would put in more effort than the average emulation team but i guess they don't care that much.

I assumed playing on the switch screen with the joycons wireless would feel just as fine as playing on my tv with the wired pokken controller as my tv still adds 16ms of inputlag despite being a fast tv (and I find that perfectly fine). But it seems that when playing in portable mode with the joycons wireless you do get more inputlag than that. not sure if its the wireless controller or portable mode adding to the inputlag though. I really felt it with these games. Also, If you read the credits of this compilation, you'll first off be greated by a bunch of spelling mistakes and further on in see a bunch of mentions to MT-frameworks curiously enough.

Well, he very explicitly states why he feels that it's bare bones:

* Very Little Concept Art, and no background information on the history behind the games, promotional art, arcade cabinet art or the like.

* Zero Display Options (Scan Lines, Smoothing, Filters) which are standard options in nearly every single "retro package" out there

* No Sound Test/Equalizer as exists in other "retro packages", including the previous Capcom Arcade Cabinet.

* Only a single game mode available (free play), while most other packages had "Challenge Mode", "Caravan Modes" or "Casual Modes". (Again, Capcom's previous "Retro" package had alternate gameplay modes.

* Not a single achievement in any of the games.

Also, Jeff never said that it wasn't worth $20. In fact, he said (and I quote), "It's a decent number of games. It ain't bad."

This pack looks cool, but dammit, I REALLY wish you could play the Dungeons and Dragons Capcom pack on modern consoles. :(

I hope after you've covered every fighting game ever on Ranking of Fighters we can get a definitive list of brawlers/beat-em-ups. Maybe Streets of Gauge?

Is it coming to PC? I'd buy the hell out of this bundle.

I'll make up for it by playing Streets of Rage tonight.

Also, when will we see Dan and Vinny try to beat these games?

While I'm not as down on this for it's lack of extras (especially for the price), I will say that the challenges and game modifiers included in the DnD Mystara collection went a long way in extending it's value and replay value.

No Aliens vs Predator: No sale!

But for real, I haven't even heard of a legal way to buy that game outside of the arcade. I loved that game so much that I'd buy it as a stand alone port today.

Golden Axe plays fine.

And yeah I preordered this right after the Switch Direct and Jeff really mentioned the issue I have with it. Free Play only makes this shit boring. I've always preferred console ports of arcade games (back when it was worth the time and effort to make effective ports) to any sort of emulated arcade experience. I would rather take a hit to graphics and sound, honestly.

I wish it were easier for them to get into the ROM itself to make changes to a game that was built to run on quarters.. that'd be ideal, but too much effort I assume.
