Man, this looks disappointing. I loved the Burnout games and wish these guys all the best but everything seems a bit grim. The cars don't even deform properly.

The last time I heard Jeff sigh like that was for the Duke Nukem: Forever quick look.

Jeff being too kind. The destruction in this game is basically non-existent. Changing textures on the cars and removing the wheels doesn't count as destruction in 2017.

Immediately noticed that the cars don't have shadows and I can't not see it. Just makes it look even more flat and unfinished.

And the complete lack of music. It's so lifeless.

Jeff said it best, crash mode was a cool mode in a game that was otherwise a complete package. Burnout was awesome because the racing was awesome, crash mode was just a nice bonus and on its own gets old pretty fast.

Yeah, between this and Dangerous Golf, it seems like the dev team just can't get it done. The whole simulation aesthetic really makes the crashes seem inconsequential, no matter what happens.

This makes me sad that the 2d xbox arcade version of this never came out on pc.

Setting this in a warehouse sorta place sure saps all the charm and character out of it.

What I wouldn't give for Burnout 3 HD. The tracks had so much more 'personality' compared to Paradise's open world.

Focusing on Crash Mode is practical for Three Fields, as they're a small team.

Crash Mode was never my bag though, only as a palate-cleanser between Road Rage and Burning Laps.

Both Golf and this seems like just a bunch of salvaged game engine and mechanics, everything being in a tunnel also seems like a total bummer, expected only the tutorials being in tunnels. The complete silence and lack of any personality or soul is so depressing. There's no music, and like Jeff said, no snappyness.

It makes me sad. It makes me appreciate Burnout: Crash even more.

I bought this game in good faith but no I regret it. :(

I never liked crash mode in Burnout 3/Revenge. Always thought it was stopping me from the races.

Edit: This doesnt seem bad. I think its worth $13 but i also liked Dangerous Golf.

Everything about this feels like an unfinished tech demo for some other game. Like if this was something you would get for free previous to the release of some game you pre-ordered.

This seems like it has the same problem as Dangerous Golf, where it's less about causing destruction and more about just moving around to collect the floating award icons to get a high score.

Something about the camera angle, the lighting, the sound and the closed roof made this really claustrophobic for me. Not to mention the COMPLETE LACK OF MUSIC ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I think Jeff nails this one; crash mode was a great piece to the larger puzzle that was Burnout.

Some of the fun came from the juxtaposition of the other modes where you were actively trying to avoid crashing, and the crash mode being the complete opposite. It was really refreshing after an intense race to let off some steam crashing through a junction.

Removed from a larger racing context, and seemingly stripped of any flair this just seems a bit dull.

Okay, I wasn't too hot on this once I heard it was outside the context of a greater driving game, but hearing that it apparently all takes place in a test sort of environment kills it for me.

It's sad, because I want to see this studio succeed. Hey, maybe they should make a driving game or something?

It seems like this game was released rather hastily as a response to those wanting a crash mode game after seeing Dangerous Golf. This definitely needed more development time.

The devs were quick to release updates in a response to the criticisms of Dangerous Golf, so hopefully they do the same here. A snappier interface would definitely be an improvement.

Really surprised to see "Quick Look" on this and not "Unfinished".

The biggest problem for me is like the models don't deform at all its just like an off the shelf model from Unity or whatever. Like it doesn't look interesting or realistic. After this and dangerous golf I'm pretty like skeptical of this development team.

The one thing I think this game does well is add an "Attempt" count to the leaderboard listings. Great way to make it even more obvious which scores are bullshit.

The environment takes away a lot from the game. Because it's not a city street, it doesn't feel like a freak mayhem.

This game not having a quick restart seems insane to me for a game that's about doing the level over and over again for a higher score. The developer have released so many games in a short time, they should probably slow down a bit and take their time.

It just looks so dry. There is no style to this thing at all. Which is weird cause Burnout had ALL of the style. Guess none of the artists from Criterion came over to join this developer

I wish they'd stop doing half steps and just make a full game. This is just clearly the basics here (hence why it's in a tunnel). Even for a crash mode, a real environment being simulated is a lot of the appeal of this mode.

EDIT: Yeah the car destruction is even very limited compared to old games.

It basically is though I think. This is like something you make to see if you have the basics working and then you make a whole game. You really need an environment and stuff. This isn't enough.

Just like Dangerous Golf, I'd be all over this as a podcast game during a five dollar sale or something.

But man... why is it so hard to make a modern Crash Mode game that takes what was great about the Burnout ones and modernizes/expands the concept? Say what you will about Burnout Crash, but at least that weird-ass game had personality and incentives to keep replaying.

Burnout takedown is the best racing game ever made in terms of pure speed, fun, and the desire to just want to play it and get good. I think dirt rally is the second best racing game. How in the hell can they completely blow everything about crash mode???

This virtual reality crap with pickups makes it so dumb it's unbelievable. If it was outdoors or in a city there would be weight to the crashes but this is just a mess.

Dirt 4 comes out in a week can't wait for it though

I like the environment, but even then it looks stale in that location. The setup of the test area looks cool. The layout of the courses is also presented well. But once you get past that, it's disappointing that one crash shut you down. Some additional maneuverability after a smaller crash would lead to prolonged activity. Instead it's one crash and then use the pickups. Not worth $13. $5 come black Friday and I can see picking it up.
