@bombzinski: Very much so. This remastered version adds a Jar Jar painting to the second floor hallway, however.

Christ. Is that voice acting really new? I was willing to forgive it because I thought it was restored from back when people didn't give a shit about acting in games.

Acting has never ruined anything for me, but this is pretty bad.

I'm pretty sure that it's only new in the fact that they found the old recordings and were able to obtain higher quality versions of the same takes.

The pixel art in this game is classic, while this new Illustrator remaster looks like a 2000s flash game. I don't understand people who prefer that. That the pixel art transitions so easily into the remaster art tells you how much detail is in it the original and not in the remaster. I feel like those old people who scream at kids that the b&w films are perfect and hold up to color.

Nah, I'm totally with you.

I've never played this or MM, but I have heard Jeff talk about it a lot so I decided to download this. I only prefer the new visuals because it lets me use the new wheel mechanics, which I feel is easier than the large window on the bottom with all of the options.

And I must say, from reading that this voice acting is apparently the same as the original, the voices are fantastic and the acting is incredibly well done. I just figured that the voices were completely new, they sounded so modern.

I've never seen this game before, but always heard about it being super amazing/influential. It's kind of mind blowing seeing this remastered art and thinking it looked kind of shitty, but then the transition back to pixel art is SO smooth, and you can really see what people liked about this game back in the day.

I don't know what exactly it is about the remaster, but it seems almost a little bit "cheap"? I feel like the art style comes through so much better in the pixel art. It's almost like an artistic-uncanny-valley, the same way old school SID chip audio often sounds more "real" than the low quality, but technically real audio sampling that came immediately after it.

@bombzinski: You have to remember that this was made at LucasArts during a time when there was no more Star Wars, and people were starting to get nostalgic for it. It'd be like if JK Rowling started a game studio today, no matter what game they made it'd have a billion Harry Potter inside jokes.

The wheel isn't exclusive to the new graphics. Like they show in the quicklook, in the options you can set the "verb" section to "dial" and it'll use the dial mode regardless of what graphics mode you're in. The actual useful thing about the new art is it lets you highlight all the objects in the room you can interact with.

"Take on the world".

I remember that from playing it...when it came out. Also Sam and Max hit the road. Classic stuff. The audio track blew my mind.

Oh damn, I didn't realize that because I haven't watched it yet. Thanks for the information. During long scenes I like going back and forth with the graphics settings. It's cool that the background music changes too.

Yeah, looks absolutely fine, voice acting is decent, sad to hear about the bugs though. Most of all it'll just be fun to play when I get my hands on it.

Acting has never ruined anything for me, but this is pretty bad.

It's most definitely not new. It's higher fidelity, so it's not compressed to hell and back, but those are the very same files.

And it's amazing, and you all are terrible people.

Look, I get the nostalgia thing, and I'll even admit that the voice acting isn't as universally terrible as my initial impression lead me to believe, but there's no world where I can look at this and come away thinking any of these people are trained actors. I barely hold it against the game--besides that I can't think of an example of bad acting actually ruining anything for me--it's just an old game. Actors probably weren't taking this sort of thing seriously, and that's assuming they had the budget to hire people outside their studio.

@twolines: Haha... I found his off-putting, but not bad. If that makes sense? I think that's probably at least partially intentional though.
