Hey, if you are starting to play again join some clans :D

There are quite a few Giant Bomb clans on American servers and a GB clan on EU server.

To join GBEU clan look for Giant Bomb under English on European servers. We should be under just the English choice not English (British).

Here's the clan thread http://www.giantbomb.com/diablo-iii/3030-20803/forums/d3-giant-bomb-clan-1473221

Come join us in looting some awesome stuff.

In case anyone's curious about the difficulties:

- There is no more Nightmare/Hell/Inferno, so you don't have to beat the game 4 times

- The monsters scale to your level, no matter what difficulty you're on (this system replaces the Nightmare/Hell/Inferno system).

- On Normal, you'll generally have no trouble killing things even with just the loot you find as you play the game the first time.

- As your gear gets better, you can increase the difficulty for better rewards.

EDIT: Oh hey, I'm the one who got the good roll on the Sky Splitter in chat!

Played it last night, got through Act V. The new class and the changes to the difficulty settings, paragon system and the new adventure mode are great. As for the new act itself.... eh, it's alright. The main villain doesn't really pack the same punch as the other villains. But the new act doesn't have enough enemy variety, and some of the areas drag on waaaaay too long.

I mean I thought D3 was a pretty solid game to begin with but the degree to which it has been improved by this Expansion and the patch that came before it is still startling to behold.

Anyone notice the mobs have numbers over their head instead of names? Is that a bug where they forgot to turn off the placeholder names?

i still don't understand the difficulty levels still being in place though. difficulty is dynamic, but there are also general overall levels of difficulty as well? or you can just use the difficulty levels to bypass whatever difficulty the game would automatically put on on at your level? forgive my stupidity.

Difficulty isn't exactly dynamic. Monsters scale to your level automatically, but so does the loot, so the challenge kind of evens out in that sense. A level 30 monster on Master will have more HP and deal more damage than a level 30 monster on Normal.

Couple other changes they made to the game is you are able to salvage white quality items (they are no longer vendor food). The final difficulty is Torment which has a slider for Torment 1-6 (bottom left).

Just before the launch of RoS it has been more common for legendaries to drop from items/corpses/chests than rare mobs and bosses.

You can level really fast now on higher difficulties. A friend and I got level 40 at the end of act 1 and level 60 at the end of act 2 on Torment I.

You can also zoom in on your character with Z.

@ripelivejam:

could just be something like

normal:

monster level = player level * 1.15

hard:

monster level = player level * 1.6

harder:

monster level = player level * 2

scale number of enemies and loot likewise.

they fixed some of the things i didn't like about diablo 3 (like the fact that you had to play 25 hours plus for it to get mildly challenging) but the fact remains, diablo 3 is BOOOOORing and repetitive. but they made good changes, definitely a better game now.

@ripelivejam: @spunkyhepanda: probably the place where difficulty will be seem the most won't be in monster scale, but in damage scale and damage spikes.

Is there any way I can play D3 and skip the first three or four hours or so? I have played that far about 3 times, once during the beta, once after, and once when I tried to play the game again. It never quite grabbed me. This release might do it for me though... but I really dont want to play through the start of the game again :S

I actually want to go back to diablo 3. Just a matter of re-remembering my password...just found it. And, I am getting my new video card tomorrow....

I liked Diablo 3. Perhaps it was a matter of not knowing any better, but the info in this QL is not discouraging me.

As someone who played this game through, when it was released a few times, then got stuck against its problems that it had in the day [so I moved on from the game].... coming back it is really so much better. The core game was already pretty great just it had a lot of weird issues mostly stemming from the real money auction house and other things. Coming back this seems waaay better and I think I will put a lot more time into it now.

Enemies scale to your level, but difficulty is still based on which difficulty you choose. So, if you want to play 1-60 on the lowest difficulty, you can do that. If you want to bump it up and down as you level based on how hard it is, you can do that as well. If you have awesome gear, and are playing on normal, you're going to be melting through everything without breaking a sweat. Since higher difficulties reap higher rewards, you want to play on the highest difficulty you can that still feels comfortable (where you're not bashing your head into a wall). This is going to mostly depend on what kind of gear you're rocking.

This is different from original Diablo 3 where difficulty was based on which play-through you were on. That is to say, your first full play-through would be on normal, and you would be around level 30 by the time you finished the game. Your second play-though (or new game plus if you want to look at it like that) was on nightmare mode. Each new mode would be more difficult, but there wasn't an option for a challenge starting from level 1 like there is now. The new difficulty system is a huge improvement.

I just bought and played through D3 for the first time last week since it was on sale. I thought it was fun, but after completing the game with a single character one time, I really have no desire to go through it again at a higher difficulty. I don't understand the appeal of playing through the game over and over. I got to level 60 in my single pIaythrough because of the community experience buff Blizzard put in place to get people leveled up for the expansion - so I tried Torment (1) for a bit and while you do have to pay closer attention, it didn't seem to notably change how you play the game that much.

I'm really enjoying this! so much more and better loot... And adventure mode is very fun! My first nephelem rift was insane- I set a new monster slayer record for my guy of 388!

Legendaries are also great. My level 68 monk was using a level 46 helm because of its insane affix. I got 5 or 6 in act V!

Diablo 3: Horardrim on the Scout. I don't know i just wanted to try it.

You can start the game on normal and hard, and they give you more difficultly levels depending on your level. And only torment has a slider that increases the difficulty more. Like torment 1, 2, 3, all the way up to 6. They should have read the patch notes.

Yeah that seems a bit odd. Probably wanted to get it out there quickly, but I would've preferred they wait. Could've leveled Crusader more and shown off more abilities and had Act V done so they could show Adventure Mode.

Every time a new Blizzard game comes out, I check to see if my Battle.Net account has magically un-fucked itself. Every time, I can't get to the games I already own. And no, I'm not sending you a copy of my driver's license. Not going to happen.

Thanks anyway, Blizzard, but I'm not paying for new games until I can actually play the ones I've already bought.
