I personally like this game more than Nuclear Throne. Seems like there is more to this game. Also Nuclear Throne runs 30fps which just doesn't feel good, aiming and all feels a bit too clunky. This game feels great to play at least on PC. I wish the co-op was online though, seems the camera is terrible on local co-op. Oh well, time to enter the gungeon again!

Loving this game. To me it is like a binding of isaac [with less focus on amassing passives] but with actually good feeling shooting.

I got this item from a chest, a passive item, that gives me gold every time I flip a table, and every time I flip a table ALL TABLES UNFLIPPED IN THE ROOM ARE FLIPPED AS WELL.

This game has somethin' to it...

I love how there are like 3 or 4 (or more) different table tech items for flipping, from damage boost to money to either rate of fire or slowdown. Getting all but the money one would make you a MONSTER in any room with a lot of tables (you wouldn't want money with the rest because of the forced flipping part).

To give stuff to the guy in the shop, hold up on the d-pad to drop your current item and down on the d-pad to drop your current weapon. He gives you some money in return.

Also, that main theme song is amazing.

@jeff and others may like to know that the gun he got in his first run was actually a charge weapon. And a really good one! A lot of weapons have functions that are not very clear. You have to charge it for a while. It'll start humming.

I feel the game needs a bit of tuning. Keys rarely drop and sometimes you get no guns on the 1st floor. The game is all about the guns so where are they!? And worst yet is that enemy HP scales based on the floor you're on. A basic enemy will take 3 hits to kill on floor 1 but 4 hits on floor 2 and so on. There's no visual indication that they're harder to kill. It feels cheap and lazy. And I wish there was more item synergy. But beyond those complaints, this game is great. I'm having a blast and I hope things get ironed out to be even better. :)

Great game so far! Only made it to the third floor haha. To sell things to the sewer guy in the shop, I think you just need to drop your item/gun down into his grate.

Dan made a MGS 3 reference for the Single Action Army but didn't notice the one the game itself made, "Exhilarating reload time".

This game has one glaring flaw, and it's the fact it has no aiming reticle. Super weird that it doesn't have one. Besides that, I think I found my latest gaming obsession. It's so much freaking fun!

@humanity: sometimes randomly generated games aren't entirely randomly generated. Like with the binding of Issac each individual room IS Hand crafted by the devs. The layout of the level is what's randomly generated. I may be wrong, but that seems to be what this game does as well.

There is absolutely no way this is true. Binding of Isaac rooms are fucked in ways that only a malevolent computer can come up with.

I seem to remember the official Binding of Isaac updates mentioning "200 new room layouts", or something similar. I think the items / enemies you find in a room are randomly chosen (and even then I think certain room types are associated with specific enemy types / formations), but the basic room layouts are picked from existing templates. How the rooms are connected and which rooms appear is the more random thing.

Its telling of my incredibly different take on games that when vinny talked about how to differentiate this from nuclear throne my first thoughts were you are not going after a throne in a post apocalyptic wasteland but entering a dungeon inhabited by sentiantiant guns and bullets. I am such a mechanics second person....

Nuclear throne is cool, but honestly it always felt a bit shallow to me to keep me playing much. This I think has a lot more depth and awesome stuff in it. Plus I think it overall feels a lot better mechanically. The shooting to me feels a lot better. NT I think is probably a bit more technical and faster but I very much prefer this game.

I like roguelikes, but roguelite's aren't much fun for me at all. The whole thing for me about a roguelike is going in with whatever random equipment is given to you and seeing how far you get. Building a home base and starting with better and better stuff every time takes away the whole point for me.

Nuclear throne is more focused on frenetic twitch-action and understanding of enemy patterns, while Gungeon is a slower and more dungeon-crawly/loot-driven experience.

So take your pick from there!

This definitely looks different enough to enjoy both Gungeon and Nuclear Throne. Gungeon seems closer to Rogue Legacy or Necrodancer than to something like Spelunky.

While I agree that this game could use tweaking, in my view it should be toward making co-op a fully-fleshed out feature rather than the current "Uh, sure, I guess co-op exists". Allowing the second player to choose their character, and fixing the "teleport-instadeath" bug that Jeff and Dan experienced would make this game an absolute winner.

Almost all of your points are a matter of becoming more familiar with the game. You always start the game with a Key, and there's always at least 1 (usually more) gun-chests in each level. The Shopkeeper often (but not always) sells guns, and he's always on every level. Lastly, defeating the level boss ALWAYS gives you a new gun (and the Level 1 bosses are totally kill-able with the starter guns, if the RNG hates you).

Tougher enemies ALWAYS have a visual indicator in later levels. The basic Bullet-Kins ALWAYS take two shots to kill -- but later on you encounter Veteran Bullet Kin, which are darker, scruffier, and wear an eyepatch. Likewise, basic Shotgun-Kin are red, while the more experienced ones are blue and the Veterans are purple, and so on.

@eccentrix: Outside of the elevator there's a limited amount of build up that I've seen so far. I know there's one guy that lets you buy upgrades to go into a run with once you've bought all the items that use hegemony credits from the shop, but those only last one run, so it isn't at all like say Rogue Legacy. And frankly I dunno that I'd want to use the short cut because you're going to want all the upgrades from the early floors for serious runs at the late game.

Really digging this game. All this talk of Nuclear Throne, and I still can't really play that game on my PS4 because that version is still totally broken and has still yet to receive a patch. I enjoy both games, but Enter the Gungeon is really solidly built and scratches a similar itch, but with more progression mechanics.

Yup, it is totally broken. I've honestly never played an official release of something that has so many problems and game-breaking issues. And the fact they haven't released a patch, have supplied almost no information about the PS4 patch, and have not pulled it from the store, is just really poor on Vlambeer's part.

I know the variants of the enemy types who not only look different but have different patterns and shots. But I'm not confusing those when I mean HP scaling exists. Every enemy gets an HP buff the lower you go. The basic Bullet Kin actually takes 3 shots, not 2 (using the Marine's starting pistol for example). One Chamber 2, the basic Bullet Kin will take 4 shots to kill instead of 3. On Chamber 3, they will also take 4 shots to kill. I haven't had some spawn on the 4th Chamber lately so I can't verify how many shots it takes to kill them. The large knights I do know takes 2 full clips from the Marine's starting pistol on Chamber 1 to kill. I tested it out just now, I can say the knights take 3 full clips to kill on Chamber 4. The sprites look the same, it doesn't look any different yet it they take more hits to kill which is annoying to say the least. This happens to all enemies. HP scaling exists and it sucks IMO. It's lazy design.

Man, I don't think I want to buy this game if it has no aiming reticle option whatsoever. It just seems insane not to have one in a PC game.

Hotline Miami and Nuclear Throne work in large part because of those aiming reticles, and any game of this style without one just feels like it is trying too hard to appeal to either an outdated arcade mentality like Smash TV, or just assumes all of its players are using a console gamepad as opposed to keyboard and mouse.
