When there is a hugeass DLC store page in the game menu I kinda get as put off as if I found out the smoking hot gal I got close and personal with turned out to be into chewing tobacco - the hard way.

May this game not lead us onto a path of even more more western publishers running games delivering $30 worth of content on the disc and putting the rest behind $130+ DLC. Amen.

Consider 25 of that is a season pass and the rest is cosmetic shit, I dont really care.

Same. I got pretty incensed hearing about how much DLC this game has until I realized that the vast, vast majority is cosmetic stuff that I couldn't give a shit about, I don't really care either.

As I get older, I just care less and less about "oh man I gotta make sure I pre-order so I can get that SICK extra gun" or "oh dude I gotta get the limited edition so I get that SWEET extra skin." Whatever. Just give me the base game and I'll be on my way. Adding one more gun or some alternate skin I might never use or whatever doesn't appeal to me anymore.

Games are expensive to make these days, y'all. Charging for cosmetic stuff is A-OK by me, just so long as they deliver enough content on the disc that I feel like my purchase was valid.

I am having so much fun with this game.

DLC thing is a shit-fest, but what is in the game does it for me. If I feel inclined to buy more in like 6 months, then I will. If not, then I won't, obviously. Certainly not gonna blame others for being put off, though.

The pricing structure is actually the only thing keeping me from buying this, same with a couple of friends. I'll pick it up when I can get the full game for $60 and not $100.

I still feel like this whole game is a multiplayer mode for a different game.

The lack of variety in level design is a bit jarring as well.

I think they should have an Evolve mode in Battlefield Hardline where the cops gotta catch a criminal before he takes too much meth and lifts too many weights and becomes too difficult to take down.

I find the narrative around this game to be pretty hilarious.

This notion that there is a lack of content is absurd. 12 maps, 12 hunters, three monsters and five modes. This idea that a mutliplayer-only title can't be a $60 product just seems like people reaching for something to complain about. I could argue that if you like the game mechanics enough, you can get just as much play time out of this as any single player game. I feel like people just watched a Jim Sterling video and decided to bash this game without actually looking into it.

I get that people don't like DLC, but I fail to see how this is different than any other modern video game. Call of Duty comes out every year with the promise of four $15 map packs. Destiny is charging $20 for more content. Bioshock Infinite comes out with plans for extra story content. Battlefield 4 has multiple expansions. It's just the world we live in.

So what's different? The fact that they were up front with you? Is saying that you feel your game lends itself well to extra content really that atrocious? They're even making all of the new maps free so they don't split the player base.

And the notion that the DLC is going to in any way give some sort of advantage is presuming a whole lot. Like they're deviously holding back all of their good characters for extra cash. Give me a break. I would wager that 10 percent of this team's development time has been spent making sure that this game is balanced...and they're just going to throw that all out the window for DLC???

Again, the attack on Evolve's "horrible" DLC strategy is based on the assumption that there isn't enough in the retail package...and I simply don't see that to be the case. You might not like what's there, but there's definitely enough content there for people who do.

I did enjoy the beta enough, but don't really like competitive games like this too much, I get anxious.

Yeah, that's rather of a turn-off, especially with a backlog and only a couple on-line friends getting it.

Yeah, I get anxious with these games now too. I can't quite put my finger on it, because I never used to be that way. I think it's been the introduction of leveling, and unlocks. I'm a lot busier now, so when I do play, I feel behind. It's not as casual as say something like, counter-strike, or along those lines.

It looks fun but more of a $20 dollar fun and not whatever it is. I'll buy it if I'm still interested when it hits a better price point. There is some irony behind the $135 dollar game made be people who worked on L4D, a game Valve famously uses to show that a game can make so much more money selling a game at half of standard retail price.

Especially for a game that wants to be an 'ESPORTS' game, you can't really expect having a healthily growing scene when the product is priced like Evolve.

Getting people to devote their time on a game, means that you have to make the barrier to entry as small as possible. Otherwise you'll end up with a rather small pool of teams that play eachother over and over until all interest and excitement is gone.

This happened in Starcraft 2 where the same koreans kept playing eachother with the same metagame, until people could predict the minute to minute events of a match.

Putting a significant pricetag on your game doesn't help with that.

The beta events might have helped them bring more people in, but i doubt it will surpass the amount of interested people at a lower price (or even free-to-play).

I enjoyed the beta and i can see that it's a pretty good game that is also pretty original in it's genre, but i don't see myself playing it over Dota. Maybe i'll give it a look when the complete edition is released.

@fpk: the whole destroy the generator endgame is a good way they designed to avoid that. i am curious if it can end up in a draw if the timer runs out and everyone's alive. maybe that should be considered default win for hunters so it gives even more incentive for the monster to tangle. in any case the monster needs to kill the hunters to win, as well as vice versa, so that should always encourage conflict on a base level.

i'm also curious if the shield can be used as a last ditch effort to save the generator from dying, seems logical.

@bigbosslebowski: I don't really have a strong opinion one way or the other about the value proposition in this game, my disinterest relates more to logistical issues I have with multiplayer-only games...But throwing around statements like "12 maps, 12 hunters, three monsters and five modes" really grinds my gears. Those are not objective measures of quantity. Destiny claims to have something like six or seven competitive multiplayer modes, for example. An argument could made it actually has as few as two or three. A game with "18 story missions" could have a shorter, less varied narrative than a game with six. Don't just chuck out numbers to try and bolster an argument. They have to actually tell you something meaningful.

Even if enough of my friends got this game along with me, the logistics of having all of us play it at the same time would be pretty hard, and playing with randoms does not seem worth it. I doubt I will get this but it seems fun.

Also Dan was so far behind the group throughout that second round, I was like wtf man.

@bigbosslebowski: I know how ya feel. If there's one thing that's become increasingly apparent as time goes on, it's that that a lot of "gamers" love getting angry. And I mean, they fucking loooove it. So much so that they will literally make up shit to angry about. e.g. "We literally do not have any proof whatsoever that they pulled content from this game, but we know that's what happened."

It just so happens that DLC has been "the thing" to complain about for a while now. God forbid developers do anything other than either give all the DLC away for free or offer up some magical 6000 hour game with 2.5 billion multiplayer levels, 34000 playable characters, and 9.4 million unlockable costumes.

No, developers must adhere to these completely arbitrary standards or else they're literally the devil and deserve to go out of business.

It doesn't help that most Youtube personalities are essentially the equivalent to your average evening news station in that they turn the most minor of things into a world-shattering crisis. That and a lot of their viewership have clearly lost the ability to think for themselves.

Don't get me wrong though, it's fine if you decide not to purchase a game for whatever reason you want to come up with, but the outrage is infuriatingly baffling.

Say what you will about the state of the video game industry, but the state of the video game audience, more specifically a large part the vocal "core" audience, is fucking abysmal.

Anybody else find it weirdly hard to find a full game in this? Anyways, I played this last night and was stuck as the monster the whole time and hated it. I played tonight and actually got the classes I wanted, and thought it was pretty fun. Still, seems either really unbalanced or really obtuse when it comes to playing as the monster, because the hunters almost always win.

Also, remember when Oblivion's horse armor DLC came out and everyone thought it was so ridiculous? Remember how skins used to just be in the damn game?

Great to see Mary Kish again. I only know her from whenever she appear on Giant Bomb content, but she's always great.

I am intrigued by this game, but I feel like I will never have a group of people to play it with. Similar to how it was with me coming a little late to the Left 4 Dead party.

I've been having a surprising amount of fun playing this game with randos. Not really been teamed up with anyone who was completely clueless so far.

The PC version is a little buggy though. I've had the mouse curser disappear after a match more than once forcing me to alt+f4 to get out the game. One time it even caused my graphics driver to crash. I think the last time that happened to me was playing Quake wars on vista!

Also thanks to Mary for being on the QL. Watching her play it on UPF was what got me to try the game in the first place.

One bridge too far, Evolve. One Beijing Grand Bridge too far.
This game is not worth the price of 3 games.

"It's only cosmetic stuff." - everybody
Guess what? Part of the reason I like multiplayer games is because of cosmetic stuff. Half the reason I'd play an MMO or pay for an MMO is to unlock cool customization options. I spend the first 3 hours in a game like Monster Hunter to create a cool character before jumping in. I don't like how expensive games have become to people who like looking cool.

And don't lie to me, because I have seen how people restart Dragon Age: Inquisition to change their character. Some even 10+ hours into the game. We care.

It doesn't bother me personally too much as long as the base game has enough in it, but I can see why people would get up in arms against all that DLC because these cosmetic options could (should?) have been used as a carrot on a stick to keep playing the game.

Or they'd have gone with a free-to-play model and use the skins as their primary business model.
