Skipping this one because of the pricing and day one DLC. Gross.

Exactly! Why are people paying for this? Their DLC scheme for this is straight up nasty. This looks fun, without a doubt but this is a perfect example of what seems to be an amazing game ruined by a crappy greedy publisher.

Didn't like this game at all, thought it was a badly designed wilderness running simulator (oh, and you might get to shoot something every 10-15 minutes)

Don't predict a bright future for it

I like having Mary on Giant Bomb, I also like having Jeff on Gamespot... occasionally.

Is this FPS Monster Hunter or what?

Though I guess you can be a Monster Hunter Hunter if you play a Monster.

Loved the beta but I don't think there is enough content available here to justify a purchase for me. Not enough monsters to hunt. I think this will come on it's own with EVOLVE2.

And their DLC plans suck considering there aren't that many monsters in vanilla. I'm not supporting this.

EDIT: Also Brad is Brad at games.

@pyronite: remember when the AAA publishers didn't try to see how much they could shit on our heads before we thrusted a knife up stabbing them in the taint? The hostility is their own fault.

Remember when SNES games cost $60? Accounting for inflation, $59.99 in 1993 is equal to $98.28 today.

Remember when Street Fighter II cost $70?

Any guess as to how many people worked on Street Fighter II for the SNES and how many people worked on Evolve?

Buy Evolve if you think it's worth your time and is fun. This DLC stuff is, again, the latest issue-of-the-week that doesn't truly matter. You don't have to buy it.

The cost for those cartridges was justified, you had varying amounts of storage in EPROMS and the parts where expensive. At no point was there a mega shiny edition of Super Mario World which came with 2 additional worlds and 4 additional ability power ups. You bought the game, it was the price that it was and that was it.

Evolve is the most obvious case of little pieces being sliced off and bundled up as paid 'bonuses' in a long time. 2K just like every other large publisher is trying to see how far they can push their customers for an extra buck.

Fun Quick Look. Glad to have Mary on board to help out with explaining stuff. The game looks really neat if you can get a group together, much as Left for Dead was, but the non-linear nature of it seems like it would exacerbate Left for Dead's issue of randomly matched allies getting separated and being hard to cooperate with.

So Brad is that guy that runs off by himself and then tells everyone he's dead? Seemed no one moved as a team, and the game could be much more fun through some basic coordination.

What kind of counter argument is that? "You don't have to buy it" is not only a total cop out, but it doesn't respond to the point at hand nor does it further the conversation in any way. Of course he doesn't have to buy it, I thought we've come to the point where that was a given, but I guess not. If you have a counterpoint, state it, don't just wave your hand dismissively.

Yeah this doesn't look that good at all. But it could be that Titanfall soured me on multiplayer only games. I'm going to get Hardline instead, it has proper single player and I enjoyed the beta.

@likeassur: I agree up to the point that this is an issue of the week thing. The overabundance of DLC and withholding of content has just been getting worse. I actually think Evolve is the worst so far as an example of holding back content to get more money. Remember the whole DLC on the disc problem? This is way more problematic and egregious. They are straight up holding back characters for the game, which is one of the few things this game has. Imagine if Left 4 Dead held back Francis and Zoë at $60.

Man, why couldn't Mary be a part of D&D?

Oh, and yeah, 2K's DLC policies are gross and stuff. Ew, and so on. Luckily I have few friends so this game matters not to me.

Seriously, she could have been "Kishkebab" and been an insane spear user who -- nope, never mind. Just torturing myself.

@likeassur: He did state his counterpoint. Games are cheaper than ever for the consumer, and more expensive than ever for the developer.

After playing the Beta, this game really gives off the Titanfall vibe. Polished, mostly fun game that lacks any depth or staying power. Hella fun for a week or two, but once you've gotten the hang of everything you realize there isn't much to it. Would probably fork over $40 on it, but no way in hell I'm doing $60, especially considering all the DLC shit.

I never understood why they dont sell these games for $40. I would actually consider them at that price. I struggled on whether or not to buy Titanfall. Caved in and played it for like 15 hours never to touch it again. Not worth $60. Would'nt leave people with such a bad taste in their mouths if they stopped pretending that adding dumb dialogue to multiplayer made it have "story".

Buy Evolve if you think it's worth your time and is fun. This DLC stuff is, again, the latest issue-of-the-week that doesn't truly matter. You don't have to buy it.

Remember when SNES games made million $ profits in the first 24 hours, no? Me neither, it's regular nowdays however. Noone in the game development is starving.

Also if you bring inflation to the game, adjust our wages for inflation, and taxation and so forth and so on. Just for fun, I can tell you that I could buy about 40 new games with my monthly wage in the 90s, if I can buy 20 today I'm lucky.

The buying power of consumers dropped considerably, yet the profits of the gaming industry are growing by the year, so please don't come with the BS of how games should costs 3 times as much. CoD:BlackOps made everything it cost to develop back in the first day, everything else was pure profits, just for shits and giggles.

And let's not forget that games in the 90s had to be distributed world wide, transported, came in boxes, CDs, cartridges and all sorts of bonus stuff, which was all included in the basic price, without 20 different editions. In fact games now cost more as they did back then and are distributed digitally, the vast majority don't even bother to include a PDF manual. Speeking about greed.

This game has the worst and grossest DLC plan I've seen for a game in a long time. And yes, I second more Mary, she is lovely and a great person for the site.

Technically, Brad was doing things right, and he died because everyone else weren't. You really can't get upset about your first 20-30 matches in Evolve though. It's all going to be a trainwreck. The game isn't a moba, but it is like a moba in the sense that everyone's first matches are complete clusterfucks.

It's not about playing with a group of friends either, you just kind of pick up on how to play after a few hours and then it works itself out with randoms too.

I don't know about Evolve. I enjoy it, but I don't do much more than five matches a day. And since they're like 5-15 min each. That's not a whole lot. So Evolve is kind of like the second game you fall back on when you feel full on the main game you're playing - at least for me. I could see it completely disappearing from out of nowhere one day or just as easily be around forever because of a hardcore, little community.
