Quick Look: Hotline Miami

The soundtrack is incredible.

I love this game.

Everything about this seems like a Nicolas Refn movie (Drive, Bronson). Seriously, so good.

Probably don't have the patience for this game but what a sick soundtrack it has.

I really enjoy playing this game, but someone watching me play over the shoulder has evoked some strong negative reactions to my state of mind. The boss fights (at least one anyway) are... not quite as fun, but the game is still really great.

ryan's enthusiasm and this fucking music have sold me. bought it on gog just now.

This is probably the most fun I have ever seen the hosts have in a QL.

Somebody needs to make a video compiling all of Patrick's deaths a la this.

Brilliant game, beaten it twice already, but you seriously need to chill the hell out, sounds like the game is going to give you a heart-attack.

On another note, I found it a bit funny the way Ryan and Patrick were hooting at the brutal and quite graphic violence after the way everyone was so down on the cheering for God of War and (more misguided) cheering for The Last of Us at E3. I guess that's what happens when you're not surrounded by your peers who're all talking about how terrible videogame violence is all of the sudden (though to be fair there's a big difference between behavior during a quick look and behavior during a press conference).

Maybe it's because everything is centered around killing a bunch of dudes in an incredibly satisfying and challenging way? I don't see what's there to understand.

Same. I even bought it because people were raving about it. It's really just not fun to me. A strong reminder that I should try before I buy.

Let me rephrase for 2HeadedNinja: I don't get why people think this game is so fantastic. It's a flash game.

EDIT: I'm also allowing my annoyance of purchasing a game based on the ravings of a forum get into my judgment, but I think that's fair. I guess I'll pull back and wait til they bugfix this game (which is ridiculous seeing as what this game IS) so I can use a gamepad and steamworks with it, as was fucking advertised.

yeah, I may understand it on a very basic level ... you kill people, there is violence. But it does not look good, it doesnt look like it plays especially good ... and the music ... well ... so many people like it so I guess its nice, but its not for me.

Maybe it's just that the execution of the game doesnt appeal to me at all and the concept it not original enough to make up for that.

The knife vs. bat thing can be put to rest. Patrick slays all the bat people with the knife. That speed and lethality. I always knew it.

An overhead over-the-top 2D shooter is wildly different from a modern 3D game with state-of-the-art visuals. If you cannot see the difference between those, you can't see why the two have a different effect on the psyche.

This game is like Drive.

I love this game.

Bought it right after watching the QL. Game looks amazing.

I want this in and around my face.

Is it that wildly different, though? Maybe I'm crazy, but to be honest, I found the violence I just saw in Hotline Miami much more affecting than anything I've seen in anything God of War. Presentation and impact count for something, I don't think violence and its effect is purely about realism. I don't mean to say that your reaction to the violence on display in Hotline Miami was inappropriate, just that the reaction to the reactions at E3 was a bit off-base to me (though the crowd response to The Last of Us was disheartening considering it was obvious that Naughty Dog weren't really aiming for cheap thrills).

The soundtrack is amazing

Hearing some hype on twitter and reading these comments alone has gotten me to purchase this game. I haven't even had a chance to see the quicklook yet. Impulse buying on steam at work again -_-;;

I think the death reactions, coupled with how fast-paced both the game and the soundtrack is, make this the perfect game for livestreams. I could both play and watch other people play this all day long.

Damn this game looks fun. I wish I could buy it this second, bugs and all, but I technically can't even afford my car's gas right now.
