Game like this could be really cool, but they just don't value the players' time at all and I can't stand that.

I solved it 5 minutes into the case: the victim has a split brain condition, and the one half of her brain strangled her while the other was focused on eating the sandwhich.

Case closed.

Has no one pointed out yet that Zach Carrière is basically a play on "The Killer" if you say it out loud?

Playing all those Phoenix Wright games has paid off.

@goldanas: Should I feel weird that that's exactly the first thing I thought of when I read the description of this video?

I downloaded this the other night and was pretty excited to start it, being a fan of both Layton and Phoenix Wright, this seemed like it could be peanut butter and chocolate together at last. Sad to say though I couldn't be more disappointed.

This is barely even a game. The pacing is atrocious, and the parts where you're playing (if you can even call it playing) are so guided and linear it sucks all of the fun out. On top of this, the conclusions to some of the later cases are so left field and ridiculous that the player is given absolutely no opportunity to solve the case on the available evidence. Instead you get to sit and watch as the characters work out the case themselves. The game has great style, and a good premise, but at the end of the day it's pretty much a glorified picture book.

Thankfully you get enough of the game for free to work out its not worth buying. Just don't make the same mistake I did in hoping it gets more open and interesting once you've paid for some of the later cases... Because it doesn't.

So I just found out that the composer for this game is Yuzo Koshiro. That makes so much sense, the music's great.

@mbr2: Phoenix Wright also has a totally goofy artstyle and is all about investigating murders. I'd actually say it's even worse of a mismatch.

I think they are going for Yorkshire. By the way, we have over 7,000 accents in the UK... that must be a really long class!

Mhh, after watching the whole thing I feel like the pacing's about on par with the Phoenix Wright games. They can get a bit plodding and verbose sometimes as well.

Agatha Christie is directly referenced, which means this game is set no earlier than 1920.

I think the use of "By 'Eck" pretty much cements this as a Yorkshire accent. Case closed.

eh, I dunno about that. PW definitely doesn't do shit like updating every single bit of evidence seperately or start the game of with like 20 minutes straight of virtually no gameplay.

Except PW's gameplay is all reading, but PW often finds cool ways to play with the text that makes it interesting to look at and read.

I think the use of were in this game is just to make the character sound cockney-ish. Like here in the US when people say "you be" it is meant to sound like ebonics.

I'd say they do the same here, like attacking the opponents facade with accusations, the whole "100%" thing (can't beat it!). And them not starting with 20 minutes of no gameplay is pretty much a lie. There's always a big chunk of backstory and character introduction at the start of every PW game. Or every case, for that matter.

No it isn't! Every Phoenix Wright game starts with a cryptic scene of a murder, followed by a scene of the lawyer in charge being nervous before the trial and you get some vague details about what's happening, after which you're thrown right into the trial. All in the span of 5-10 minutes.

The pacing could definitely use some work but it seems alright. The music definitely seems to be the best part so far.

@mutha3: Every first case is exactly like this, incredibly plodding tutorial and all. They get into the first gameplay bits at 11:00 minutes, that includes talking at the start screen for over a minute. PW always makes sure you get every single part of the gameplay by beating you over the head with long-winded dialogue similar to this.

Though I'm not quite sure who has the more unlikable anime-cliché characters. Haven't seen much of Layton Brothers.

Seems need too bad I don't have an iDevice of some sort. I'd totally play this. Sure the pacing of the game is plodding but whatever it seems cool and has a neat art style.

This is a really fun little novel that occasionally pretends to be a game. The cases all seem more than interesting enough for their price though, even if you're mostly watching them play out.

Were in the context this lady is speaking is either east-end London or North midlands in a place called Yorkshire. These are the main regions that that word is used incorrectly as an accent tweak to the english language, there are other places that do this to the english language but I'm not going to list them due to time restrictions and I can't be arsed.
