Ubisoft has more riding on the success of this game than Nintendo, right? This game exists to reinvigorate the Rabbids franchise in this Minions-crazed world, right? Who better to rescue the Rabbids than Mario?

I thought Smash Bros was the first time a Nintendo game treated the characters in it like they were characters/figures? And that's why the end boss is a big hand? You're fighting the human that owns your figurine (and that's awesome).

I like the look of this game. I'm definitely not a huge fan of the Rabbids, but I think they're trying something creative with this mash-up, and I'm willing to come along for that ride.

I looked to see Switch stock in my area on a whim and saw Best Buy had them in... decided it was time and I had a pocket of "free" birthday money.

Good to know Ubisoft's bug-free experience extends to Nintendo games.

It's a fantastic game! Also, this is one of my proudest achievements in recent week.

@benpack: "Is this the first time Nintendo has acknowledged that Mario is a video game character?"

I'm also pretty sure it's the first time Mario characters have had smartphones. Like, Rabbid Peach, sure, but Bowser Jr. also has one in a cutscene. This is finally the Mario game that has jumped ahead to the present day with phones, humor and guns, like what real, proper modern games like Uncharted: The Lost Legacy has.

I'm about halfway through world 1. It's a ton of fun so far.

It's also surprisingly difficult. I almost lost Rabbid Peach against the mid-boss. And then I almost lost Mario in the next fight.

Anyone can make this game!

Bright colors, whimsy BS, annoying "minion like" humor, simple Xcom game play, and dumb ass Mario characters... it's like the game itself is a troll. Why would you want to hurt people Ubi/Nin? We are already suffering. :(

@afterland: I initially read through quickly and saw that as "really want a sandwich" and was a bit confused.

But I'm with you. Between this and Zelda, I'm itching for a Switch.

@steveurkel: Patrick at Waypoint described playing Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle requiring the mindset more like playing Fire Emblem than X-Com. It seems like the game wants you to treat it as a puzzle game within a strategy game. You can even scrape through levels a first time with non-permanent deaths to return later with better characters/abilities/weapons to perfect them.

It seems designed for short bursts of a few battles or puzzles than long planned sessions like with X-Com; it just seems to borrow the X-Com framework for the basic mechanics of battles but little else. So maybe it wouldn't feel too similar for you to play this and the new X-Com close to each other.

It was a bold choice mashing up a Rabbid with Ron Jeremy and putting it in a Mario game, but I commend them for it.

The Rabbids are very popular in francophone regions. It's one of the more popular cartoons series here in Western Europe (sans the U.K.). People confuse it for the Minions, but I would say it's much more like Looney Tunes. Very slapstick with a lot of Wile E. Coyote style antics. The graphic novels are also quite popular. They even have a theme park in Quebec.

I will admit that I don't know anyone that plays the games, however.

Less than five minutes in, I'm thinking "Holy moly, this sounds so much like Grant Kirkhope"... and then I look it up and yeah, Ubisoft actually got him to compose the soundtrack. Huh.

Really ? I live in France and there's no trace of them anywhere, I had to search to find a cartoon on one of the least watched national channel (France4). Maybe they are popular in Quebec but that not the case in Europe.

This game doesn't look particularly amazing to me, I mean it looks fine, I'd probably play it if I had a Switch but the console is not on my shopping list just yet, I'll wait for a bigger library before I make my decision.

The most positive thing about this is that the good reception means Nintendo might be more open to letting 3rd parties use their characters in the future and Nintendo could always use more 3rd party support.

(By the way I love that a Ubisoft game being bugged at launch is such a constant in this universe)

I think it look really neat, a great introduction to the genre for kids and complex enough to enjoy for older audience. it's also very pretty. I don't have a switch but it amazes me often how good portable games look nowadays! It's insane.
