Man, I was hoping that all the reviews were just being too harsh. I was really looking forward to this game.

I'm ready to get fucking smashed.

I want another RPG Mario Sports game like the GBA ones. :(

It's crazy how this series has gone backwards since the GBC/GBA versions. Those had a ton of content in the mini challenges, aside from a satisfying career mode.

I played the GBC version so much it's insane. Multiple times, over and over.

Wasn't there a 3DS Mario Tennis game that was supposedly pretty good? Or at least I remember a couple people saying it was a good "bring to PAX"-game.

Dan mentions this as Nintendo's last game of the year when Xenoblade Chronicles X is in December.

I don't understand games these day. Strip down features that were in the series some 20 years ago.

I really, really hope this is not a full price game. Seems very EA-y.

$50 is fucking asinine for this, but Nintendo has had a thing for charging too much for not a lot of game this year. Whether it be this, Captain Toad, or a number of other titles...

I don't think classic mode will ever get back to the feel of the 64 version. These latest versions have messed up the ball speed and put too much emphasis on trick shots rather than ball control. It seems like the court size is smaller too.

I used to have a blast with my friends coming home after actual tennis training getting into intense rallies. Somehow that seems to have been dumbed down into oblivion.

i preordered this game cause i wanted to have this this weekend. god damnit. i guess i can send it back in the wrapper :(

I was considering getting this despite how bare it is... then I found out you can't play with your friends online. That killed it for me.

Did they just release this to have more use for Amiibos or something?

I was shocked and appalled when Mario Tennis wasn't a fucking launch game when the Wii came out. It seemed liked the most logical ip to ship with a fucking motion controlled console. Having become very competitive with friends on the Gamecube version it is all we looked forward to.

Then it wasn't a Wii U launch title and I was muttering "Goddamn it Nintendo"

But the most egregious offence is leaving Mr. Wiggler out. You mean I can't wreck fools by being a monster playing net. Nothing can get through my Wiggler D, nothing!

Shame on you fools, Nintendo. Shame.

This could be a fine game for 10-20$ if you are just looking for a good-controlling tennis game(and not comparing it to the older ones in series) for wii u with mario characters. I know it's barebones ,but only for its price. Also the local-multiplayer element in these kind of games are what they are all about so it was kind of disappointing that the QL didn't address this side of the game in anyway.

The main mode is a gimicky thing that would usually be a side mode in a sub menu with many more like them. Is this a full price game?

I wonder how much pressure was on them to get this out before the deluge of games coming out in 2016 and how much time was spent on the online component. Something like this, which seems to be polished while severely lacking in content, definitely feels like the result of being rushed and needing to make decisions on what to prioritize.

Maybe they thought they could always patch in a bunch of the side modes in the future so they focused on creating a polished game engine with barely any content over a rough game with a lot of content, but I don't think that strategy will work out for them (if that is indeed what they were planning) as the significantly negative first impressions are bound to result in relatively poor sales and that community will likely trickle away rather rapidly before any new content can be introduced.

Actual quick looks are rarely a good sign.

In the year 2015. Nintendo made a game with only a fraction of the content of the N64 original and asked $50 for it. And the original N64 game is a pre-order bonus for this pile of drek instead of available on the VC itself. It's outright insulting. Sega Superstar Tennis had more content than this back in 2008, even (And that game had that Puyo Puyo Minigame which was the bees knees and worth the money alone).

This is less of a videogame and more an insult.

It's a shame that Nintendo is taking a page from EA Sports and making a sports game with little content. I was actually looking forward to this game, too. I loved the previous Mario Tennis games. Oh well, luckily I'll have Xenoblade Chronicles X to keep me busy over the holiday!

I dont know, it looks really smooth and polished. The content seems a bit thin but not completely empty as they make it sound. Not a real mario tennis guy myself so the older ones must have been crazy with modes and crap. Maybe it will get some updates ala splattoon to beef it up.

Simply shameful. I barely messed with the extra modes in Mario Power Tennis, but the base game there was still packed with personality.

Little touches really go a long way. For example, all of the captains' Mega Strikes in Mario Strikers Charged are functionally identical, but because each one has a unique animation each Mega Strike feels special.

This game reeks of a moved deadline. Camelot can do and has done better. Nintendo either wanted the holiday lineup bolstered or wanted Wii U game development to wind down for NX.

I would have much rather preferred another Mario Golf or Mario Strikers to tennis. Oh well, one less game I have to buy this holiday season, I'm not complaining.

Boy. I am exactly the audience for this game - I have adored the previous Mario Tennis titles - but I can't justify getting this at $50. I can't imagine most people who know what this thing is will buy it either. Depressing.

Even Nintendo are adopting the damn EA sports grid menus.

This is so depressing to watch. How are there LESS characters than GC Power Tennis?? And Mega Mushrooms seem like a poor replacement for Power Shots. Mario Tennis is Sad Tennis :(

this is possibly the lowest effort, most cynically made nintendo game I've seen.

25 unlockables? 16 of which are boring reskins? man. I played GBA/n64 mario tennis for hours and hours, this game looks like it loses steam after 6 hours or so.

I bought it on eshop and got mario tennis for n64 as a bonus, just played about 10 minutes but it's fine to me.

I guess this game doesn't follow Mario canon. Boo should be afraid of the other team, since they're looking at him.

I can't possibly support this game now.
