Still astounding how they managed to completely butcher the title of this game.

P.S.

Endeavor is a pre-order bonus for this game.

P.P.S.

They really should use Muscular more in the manga/anime. Awesome design.

The best shonen property since... 1998, maybe 2001? I tried to think about all the big shonen names, and Naruto, One Piece, Bleach, Hunter X Hunter, obviously Dragon Ball, Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, Yu Yu Hakusho and Hajime no Ippo are all from the 90s or earlier.

This gets a bit more complicated if I can count Gurren Lagann, Death Note and Attack on Titan, but I think it's safe to say My Hero Academia is the most popular traditional shonen thing in at least a decade. The only contenders from the 2000s that I can even think of are Fullmetal Alchemist, Fairy Tail and everyone's favorite, Gash Bell. I'm not a huge fan of it, but I can get down with some MHA from time to time.

@redhotchilimist: I agree 100%. I would defiantly put FMA on the same level as those other classics, like DBZ, One Piece and the others. But My Hero is the best new shonen property of the decade easily.

Edit 1: Man, you saying all those anime are from the 90s makes me feel super old. I swear one day I will go back and catch up on One Piece.

I think I get what you're going for, but it legit annoys me that the Japanese title of the game is literally Boku no Hiro Academia One's Justice. Like, what kind of translation is the one we got? What happened there?

Some people really like Bakugo, which I find baffling. He's probably the biggest sore point of the show for me. I haven't totally kept up with the last few episodes so I don't know if anything changes, but he does get a little better as time goes on. He still sucks. And not in the interesting "Vegeta's an evil asshole that's kind of on the good guy side" kinda sucks, Bakugo just flat-out sucks

EDIT: Gee, Todoroki seems OP as fuck. Which lines up with the show, really, but that seems bad for someone who picks... uh... anyone else.

@justin258: They definitely do a lot with a little with Bakugo in the recent season (although I never truly hated him to begin with -- just thought it was rather a one-note character). Your comment is interesting though, because what I found to be shortcomings of the character early on were basically that he WAS Vegeta and it was just more of the same (I was convinced he was going to become a bad guy-ish, and then come back and save the day, Vegeta style, for the longest time).

I´m probably done with playing these kinds of anime games, where you play them for the fanservice and novelty of being the various characters, rather than for their actual gameplay. That said I don´t begrudge them for existing, and for what it is it looked a bit better than I expected.

I do hope, however, that they can eventually get Arc System Works to make a weird as fuck, cool as hell fighting game out of this franchise. 'Cause, damn, it´s good.

There is a moment near the end of the third season that is something of a redeeming moment for Bakugo and made me like him a lot more. I'm not gonna claim he's my favorite character or anything (it certainly took a while for him to be anything other than Sasuke with the belligerence turned up to 11) but once you understand his whole raging asshole persona is because he's an awkward, insecure kid he becomes a lot more tolerable.

The game itself looks "fine" in the same way a lot of those Naruto games look "fine", but I think this series is dying for a Dragon Ball Fighterz treatment. Maybe in a couple of years.

I wish I liked My Hero Academia, but the main character is the goddamn worst imo. Every fight is just him crying about how useless he is, and then he just does the thing he was crying about not being able to do. You would think there would be some development from him after the first season, but even onto the second season he was doing it again. Got old real fast.

This game looks ok tho.

Whether by happy accident or not, Vegeta starts out as an entertaining, over-the-top, threatening villain and becomes an actual complex character (at least by Dragonball Z standards, anyway) and Bakugo starts out as a bullying, boring kid who throws a fit whenever our protagonist tries to give him a helping hand with anything. Vegeta just plain starts off as a more interesting character - you want to see more of him from minute one. I was already tired of Bakugo's schtick by minute one. He gets a little better as time goes on and, thankfully, once the character roster expands a bit the show makes way more use of other characters.

Worth noting, I really like My Hero Academia. Like, I think it's one of the best anime shows I've seen in a pretty long time. I haven't kept up with the last few episodes so that I can binge several of them in a row. I really don't like just watching one at a time for a week, I hate that.

@justin258:I pretty quickly got onboard with Bakugo´s over the top, aggro style, especially as a foil to Deku´s timid, "reasonable" persona, and even more so once the show started showing that it wasn´t an attitude that earned him any respect with the rest of the class. From taking up a lot of space in his and Deku´s other school he pretty quickly became a surly loner once they arrived at UA and the "big fish in a small pool" got some real competition. Then there´s also the stuff at the end of season 3, in which he shows a much more vunerable side than I think a lot of classic shounen rival characters ever get to.

Similarily I loved Deku from the start, his earnestness, humbleness, the charming quirk, no pun intended, of him being a clever, nerdy kid that analyses things too much, as well as the way he embodies courage by being nervous and scared half the time but STILL overcoming that consistently.

I just really like this show.

Grapehead - honestly, I forget his name, given or hero name - probably is the real worst character in the show, but he just didn't bother me as much. He is the reason why I'd be reticent to show My Hero Academia to someone who isn't used to anime's less savory characteristics, however, and that certainly sucks.

@justin258: How often do they do sexual harassment jokes with him? I think the tendency of anime to make light of that, given Japan's very real issues with sexism, is generally incredibly poor taste. Not that you can't make clever jokes out of sexual harassment, but just the mere notion of 'oh man this guy sure is horny!' does nothing for me; especially when there's ways you get that across without necessarily making them a creeper. I have issues with Monogatari for similar reasons.

I wish this game was better if only so it could kick off a new season of All Systems Bakugo. There are some definite problems with the series, but it's the most I've been into an anime since watching DBZ on TV decades ago. Though I'd really just be curious if Jeff and Dan would enjoy My Hero Academia as much as DBZ.

Buddy! You gotta try and give it another shot! I initially felt the same way about Deku, he reminded me a little too much of Arlo from "The Good Dinosaur" in how much he beat himself up and was scared all the time. But I totally think that he grows out of being super timid in a good way. He gets some pep in his step and some confidence as season 2 goes on. The crying is an ongoing thing but there's nothing wrong with crying! I actually enjoy how analytical Deku is. He's not dumb lucking his way through the show like how some protagonists will.

But yeah I say try and give it another shot!

@scherzo: I don't know how much it actually is, because there are so many characters in the series grappling for time, but when he is featured, it is 99% of the time creepy, pervy, harrassment shit that is the worst. To the writers credit he is often the target of ridicule because of this behavior, but it's still kind of weirdly laughed off in ways that feel...at least a little problematic.

@sethmode: I guess what annoys me the most, when I bring up how another character in a different series has a tendency to creep on characters, that there's a tendency for people to go 'Oh he's just being horny!' As if that excuses the behavior. Being a horndog to me isn't the issue; making people uncomfortable because of it is.

This game looks beautiful and I love the anime but I can't stand fighting games. Might pick it up when it eventually drops to bargain basement prices but I would rather have a 3rd person action game like Marvel Ultimate Alliance in this universe.

Gurenn Lagann is up there for sure. The whole show basically revolves around fighting spirit and yelling super loud while doing cool poses all while the situations get more and more insane.,
