This game looks incredible, but I'd be remiss if I didn't give a shoutout to the original Owlboy:

The game is very charming, I have enjoyed the little bits in Buccannary's store, made me laugh quite a bit. Dan's comment about this being the PS1 platformer that never happened feels quite apt to me, I have an affinity for that era of gaming since I grew up with it.
The story has been enjoyable too, not afraid to strike a melancholic tone in the silliness of the humour.

I have found the control a bit finicky sometimes, there was a stealth section where jumping got quite frustrating. But in my first 3 hours this game has been really joyful to play.

Congrats to D-Pad ! This game is impressive, fun - and the best thing to come out of the norwegian games industry since... uh... uhm... I dunno, Razor 1911 ? :P

The game is about 7 or 8 hours long and the last third kind of drags hard. There are a lot more stealth sections than you'd expect there to be.

Been playing this slowly and it's so good!

For game that took so long it sure is unpolished. No remappable controls, it often demands more precise movement that it allows, awkward menu navigation, puzzles are pretty uninspired.

Honestly if this game didn't take like 10 years than it probably would have gone mostly unnoticed like some many other indie platformers. This game is alright. It's certainly not terrible, but there are much better games out there. I liken it to Axiom Verge. Beautiful, but has a lot of questionable/inexperienced design elements.

Maybe it gets better later on, but I'm about as far as the quick look.

Just played the start of this and it seems super cool. The way it looks, sounds and controls is vaguely nostalgic and feels so right.

What the hell is up with Ryckert just straight up spoiling the first 2-3 hours of this game within the first 2 minutes?

I started playing this last night and he just spoiled half a dozen things that hasn't happened yet. I get that there are limits to what you can hide in the middle of Quick Look of a linear game, but come on.

I know this would counteract the hard work of the artists, but it would be nice to get a slight depth of field blur on some of the background to help distinguish it from the foreground.

Any games of this type that you'd consider better that have come out recently? Just want to know what your standards are, what favours more positively.

I never got into the hype behind games like Cave Story and Undertale, but Owlboy is the real deal. I'd put this alongside Super Metroid, Link to the Past and Symphony of the Night in 2D action/adventure. The pixel art and game design is as good if not better than Nintendo at its best. It's a true masterpiece. The kind I always wanted Nintendo to make, instead of series rehashes, that has heart and soul.

I mean... AM2R got a lot right. Valdis Story as well. Momodora 4.

I liked this game. I wouldn't say that it's a unique take on the action/adventure genre, but it's certainly a good one.

For anyone familiar with these types of games you'll most likely breeze through the majority of it. But you can tell there was a lot of time spent on the game. There are many small details that are easy to miss.

To me, this looks like a lot of the other games of the same type that have come out recently. Not up my alley, but hope it was worth the wait to those that have been expecting it.

i almost hit an owl driving the other night. it was raining and very foggy and i hadnt seen a car in 2 hours when i slowed down seeing a strange reclection in the road. it flew above my car as i swerved into the other lane. i think it may have been a sign but im just happy neither of us died.

You know what I hate? Platforming chase sections. My God this game has one in the worst of possible platforming chases. You have to switch between followers so quickly to use their powers and dodge shit at the same time and it's absolutely horrible. Game was fine until that.

The screen flashing red every time you fire the shotgun is really annoying, makes it feel like you got hit by something and took damage.

That ending reveal about Owlboy and his daughter was super fucked up.

I think I'll get this when I'm done playing all the other games I bought recently.

Are there any movies with an art style like this? I love a lot of Miyazaki stuff, but this looks super cozy.

Seeing still shots of his game make me think somewhere between Kid Icarus and Minish Cap.

Seeing the game in motion makes me think nothing nearly as positive. I'm not certain why this is so unappealing to me.

It's so surreal to hear the duders saying my handle. I also own the domains, and have since 2001. I share my handle with an owl cartoon character I have drawn/made since 1997.

Will check those out, I remember liking what I played of Valdis Story.

Great game, found a fun clipping glitch that helped me bypass a boss/chase sequence in a fun wa too.

Stumbling upon a quicklook about a game you never heard of , and having to add it to your wishlist is such a good feeling. This looks fresh and cool.
