Pallets of Eternity

I bought this game despite having tried (and failed) (many, many times) to get into Baldur's Gate and Planescape. Hope I don't end up regretting it - from what I've heard, the game doesn't seem too terribly interested in catering to people new to CRPGs.

@bwheeeler: If you're new to CRPGs I'd recommend starting out with Dragon Age: Origins. It's way more accessible than any of the Infinity Engine stuff, or any of the new throwbacks like PoE (at least, by the looks of them) whilst still being very much part of the same style.

@wagrid@bwheeeler I actually kind of disagree. I am newer to CRPG's and I tried DA:O and disliked it. I got really into Divinity: Original Sin. So I guess if you don't like DA:O you might like D:OS :).

Is Rorie's mic awful or is my audio setup having a problem?

I wanted to see big head mode on the execution tree! cant wait for this.

This seems pretty cool if you are into it, lots of nice touches.

I really don't like this kind of pause-and-command combat though, I'd rather it be straight up turn-based game or totally real time like modern Diablo. It ends up being too tedious and hurts the flow of the game *for me*. I had to put down the latest Dragon Age partially because of it.

For a moment I thought you meant Path of Exile. Need to update that acronym table in my head.

The combat animations are kind of boring, but everything else about this seems pretty cool. I might give this a shot someday! But I still need to finish Divinity before I take on another one of these games.

With Shadowrun: Hong Kong in the Summer and possibly Tales of Numenera coming this Fall, 2015 looks to be another great fucking year for old-school cRPGs.

@jasoncourt: Well, it's a spiritual successor to the Infinity Engine games, and those were this kind of "pause and command" games. It seems like this might require it even more than something like Baldur's Gate 2, but the concept is the same.

I personally prefer this to turn based.

Is Shadowrun Hong Kong another expansion to Shadowrun Returns ala Dragonfall?

@veektarius: I think it's actually a sequel; they were discussing tweaking the system/mechanics of it, including completely revamping the Matrix stuff.

Windfall of great things to play these days

Yup. They've crowdfunded way above their goal for it. It's set to come this Summer, it's supposed to be bigger, more open and longer than Dragonfall, it will feature a complete visual and gameplay revamp of the matrix, it will come with a separate free 5-hour campaign taking place after the main game and it takes place in motherfucking Hong Kong.

@mikelemmer: Kinda. Dragonfall revamped a lot in the companion and combat systems, too. They are just building on the foundations of Returns.

Rorie is the best at intros.

Taking place after the Shadowrun Returns Main Game and not the Dragonfall main game? that's a weird decision. I don't remember the original campaign well at all except that it was just OK.

Just take your time. I bought Baldur's Gate 2 on a whim when I was like ten, having never heard of dungeons and dragons. It took a while but I got into the world big time after some time! :D

I created an account just to say ty for disclosing that you worked at obsidian! As a consumer i really appreciate the honesty and don't think any less of the quick look for it.

Going from the Bloodborne quick look yesterday to this is like traveling through time. And people give Nintendo shit for oldschool game designs. This not only looks like, but seems to play like any generic CRPG from the 90s.
