Quick Look: Pokémon Sun/Moon

I still CANNOT BELIEVE that Dan picked Rowlet over NOT ONLY Popplio, but the GODDAMNED WRESTLING CAT. It summons a Wrestling ring and does a fiery 450 splash and the "Darkest Lariat" as its unique moves, too.

Rowlet is cute - but come on, Dan. You straight messed up on this one. Now you've got to live with the edgy (dead?) stealth-owl.

This game seems good, though! I'm already super deep in on Pokémon in general, but I'm excited for the ways they've changed things up for this entry.

How the fuck Dan didn't choose THE WRESTLING TIGER?

Why only have one starter? What I've done for every game is pick each starter, trade them to a friend right away then start a new game and trade them back. All starters is the true way.

I haven't watched the video yet but Dan said on the podcast that he hopes to catch a Popplio in the wild. That's not going to happen, Dan. Sorry to disappoint you.

@y2ken: I doubt Dan will play this enough to get the Z-move. Here's a video of it at least.

Dan, you hatch eggs by taking steps. It's a certain number of steps (in game) to hatch an egg. So just keep it in your party for a while and it'll just hatch while you're running.

Miltank the Pig

This is a little aggravating to watch. Mostly Because flying just damages ground type normally, it's the bug part of those Pokemon that he's hitting hard

I can't believe after all of these years how slow the game still is. I can't stand having to button through 4 text boxes between attacks. It drives me nuts!

Couldnt stand how boring x was, stopped after a couple of hours of trying to like it....why does this still seem so apealing to me?..

btw: Does anyone know, Is the 'time thing' the same as in silver\gold?

I am also shocked and saddened by Dan's refusal to pick wrestling-feline-fire-thingie, but I'll point out that Dan ALREADY has a wrestling pokemon: the child version of the four-armed, duck-faced, Schwarzenegger-thingie.

Not out of anger obviously, just out of watching someone make a mistake that you can't do anything about. I don't blame Dan for that though, the game does a poor job of communicating things like that.

X and Y are generally considered to be less interesting entries (they're still alright, but I think quite a few people bounced off them), so you might still be alright with this one.

You're not wrong, but then Machamp is more a general "strong guy" who could conceivably wrestle, whereas Incineroar has a flaming title belt around his waist and summons a wrestling ring while the trainer does a Daniel Bryan "Yes" chant. It's full wrestling.

So, as someone who was never into Pokemon . . .

. . It's basically just a game about an entire world where children rip animals out of their natural habitat and force them into combat? So it's basically dogfighting? Pokemon is child dogfighting.

Clearly Dan had no clue what the evolutions of the starters were. That's the only way I can see him not picking Litten. I foresee a bombcast in the near future of Dan talking about how he fucked up by not picking Litten. Honestly surprised his twitter feed didn't get bombarded with videos and gifs of Incineroar.

I like that they finally found a replacement for HM's, but somehow it doesn't sit right with me that you can just call upon these Pokemon without capturing them. The island theme feels weirdly tourist-y, but I felt the same way about not-france in Pokemon X. Looking back, the series has been like that for a long time. Always appreciate a quicklook of these games either way!

@alistercat: The true way is boxing your stupid starter as early as possible and replacing it with a cool bug or ghost type.

I'm also happy Dan is enjoying it. I remember Ryan was into Pokémon, but never had time to finish them, so maybe Dan's girlfriend being into it might mean we actually have a year when one of the GB staff finishes a Pokémon release.

I've been thinking about getting back into Pokemon for some weird reason. As someone who hasn't played since Gen 1 is it worth getting a 3ds for this you think?

What I've learned from this quick look, the obvious cow pokemon is a pig, the obvious donkey pokemon is a horse, and the obvious fish pokemon is a whale.

I got mine digitally. I went with a friend to get his copy at a local midnight launch and WOW: I haven't seen that many people come to a midnight launch in ages. In an age starting to focus more on digital goods I would never have expected this.

Looking forward to picking this up in a couple of weeks. Lots of new things and tweaks to the formula that are making this look very interesting.
