My best friend has used the same Qwark avatar on their PSN account for years, and I had to mash a bunch of search options into google to find that name which should show you how much I care about Ratchet and Crank.

I played about 2 hours of this last night. Outside of how the cutscenes are put together, I really like this game. I will probably try and go for the platinum on this one

@ilikepopcans I was thinking the exact same thing last night when I was listening to the Bombcast >< :D

Nice to see Ratchet & Clank make it movie industry big

Even if it had to adopt the 'cinematic fps' in the process.

I'm absolutely in love with this game. I don't have any memory or nostalgia for the originals, but I think this thing is incredible. I haven't had this much fun playing a game in a while. Like the happy kind of fun. It's colorful, it controls great, it's super fun. I have to stop myself from taking screenshots and video all the time. It all comes together beautifully while playing.

Many of the jokes fall flat, and the transition in and out (mostly out) of the movie scenes are a bit sudden and weird. Like it kind of makes me want to see the movie because it's frustrating when a cut scene just fades to black. Feels very unnatural. Those are my only two complaints as someone that knows of the original games but didn't really play them. Like I may have rented R&C1 once? Regardless, this is refreshing and awesome. I hope it does well so that they see there's a market for these types of games.

Started playing last night and MAN this game looks and feels great. The original PS2-era R&C games are among my favorites of all time, and the update this one got is pretty amazing so far (I've only cleared the first few planets).

The Quark voiceovers are a nice twist on how to tell the story and have led to a couple of fun "Call of Juarez: Gunslinger" moments so far, and some of the jabs he makes when you stand around too long in certain areas or poke around in hidden away spots are neat.

All in all, I'm super happy with it so far, and even though I likely would have paid a full $60 for it anyway, I'm glad they priced it at $40 so hopefully more people will jump in and experience it especially if they missed out on the originals.

Skullface Dr. Nefarious...damnit, Dan, he was a robot! If there's something I want to see in a possible sequel, it's him back in that form. Loved his shenanigans in the previous games.

But this was a great QL, even if Vinny didn't get his hands on it. Glad to hear that both Dan & Jeff liked it!

Time to see if Dan tells the same Ratchet story again for the 4th time

Not sure if you know, but at one point Dan thought these games all seemed very childish. He didn't think mature adults such as himself were meant to play these games as they were favorites of his younger sisters. As serious publications kept giving them high scores Dan, the mature adult that he was, decided to broaden his horizons and give these childish looking games a shot. Lo' and behold they turned out to be really good and ultimately Dan learned that you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover, beginning a brand new age of open minded and tolerant Dan Ryckert.

Also this looks great and I'm super excited to dive into it once I'm done with Dark Souls 3.

Until one day, as a side effect of his open mindedness, Dan started to collect amiibos and people started to question if his new self was actually a good idea.

This sold me. Never played a Ratchet game but the visuals are stunning which goes a long way with me. Seems pleasant all around, and just a good time. Completely the opposite of Dark Souls 3, so it'll bring some balance.

I want to go back and play the HD collection at some point but I wonder if playing this will make that impossible.

What systems was this out for originally and how did I miss it? The attitude shown here would have been right up my ally as a child. Still kind of cool now. "Mr. Zurkon still hears hearts beating, Mr. Zurkon intends to rectify this"

I really want to play this thing. I'm on the fence about it. It's like it's somewhere between remake and reboot and I'm not sure how I feel about that. But, the original was great, and this looks good, so maybe I shouldn't concern myself with its intent and just buy a damn PS4 already.

I mean they are still childish in cartoony but there is nothing wrong with an adult enjoying some cartoony things. They are certainly "aimed" at children or the child in all of us.

You kinda forget the meaning of a name or a word if you hear it enough, but as Jeff rattled off the Ratchet & Clank names on the Bombcast, it made me go "Oh yeah. Most of these could all totally be for Leisure Suit Larry games".

Tools of Destruction, Box office Bust, Size Matters, Up Your Arsenal, Going Commando.

Guess which one is the odd one out.

@alistercat: Don't worry about it. PS2 and PS3 games are ~60fps. Ratchet (2002) might be the only one that will feels dated in the HD collections. Going Commando and Up Your Arsenal have the upgrade system and strafing of this game.

Also, don't miss out on Tools of Destruction and A Crack in Time. A Crack in Time and Up Your Arsenal are considered the best Ratchet games by many fans.

This game is sweet. The mix of old and new is done pretty well, like making Ratchet more of a straight-up hero from the get-go.

It looks really great, and plays really well. The in-game cutscenes feel stilted and it's not 60 fps, but regardless I'm hoping this does well, because I'd love to see where this line goes.

@zaldar: The first R&C game was on PS2 and there's an HD version on PS3.

So you're showing zero outside areas of the game in this quicklook? That's immensely disappointing. The outside levels are the most jaw-dropping parts of the entire game and could have shown this game off way better than the levels shown here.

Great to see Insomniac going back to Ratchet since it feels like Insomniac has no presence on PS4 up till now. Insane to think that the last Ratchet game that really mattered (Crack in Time) was released in 2009.

also, Ratchet > Jak

Hm, this looks really...wrong...

It looks like some sort of Unreal Engine tech demo. I'm thinking this sort of thing:

Loading Video...

i.e. cartoony characters that have somehow appeared in a far too realistic environment...

Awesome to hear. I saw the beginning section of it the other day, and it's absolutely gorgeous. Also, want to acknowledge how full and beautiful the music is. A lot of games opt for synth stuff these days, it's nice to hear full orchestral stuff.

It keeps driving me nuts every time they discuss this game, and mention how R&C hasn't had a regular game since Quest for Booty, or Crack in Time....There was Into the Nexus on PS3 much more recently which was a standard Ratchet game. Just because they didn't CARE about R&C since then doesn't mean they didn't exist.

I would actually say that playing the original games might make this one more enjoyable. Seeing the way the story has been tweaked, along with some of Qwark's... embellishments... to the details are pretty great if you remember how the original game went. Also, even in just the first couple of hours, there have been a couple of 4th-wall-breaking moments that specifically call out that it's a remake, which I enjoyed.
