@tomac: I agree about the plot-related questions in this QL, was annoying that Dan had to deflect enquiries about potentially huge spoilers.

There doesn't seem like there's much inferiority from Pro to PC here, other than some cheaper ambient occlusion and resolution stuff. Maxed out at 1080p is very close looking to what's going on on Pro.

Seems like a great game for people that are into this sort of stuff. Could not be less into it myself. I would've preferred a strong follow up to RE4.

Look at Resident evil eating Silent Hill's lunch.
I wonder if it holds up after the initial novelty of being a first person Resident Evil.

I thought I came in for a resident evil quick look, this looks wwway different than what I was expecting! Guess I should have played 6 eh? But then again like Dan said, it sounds like the connection with the other RE is tenuous so maybe not.

This actually just looks like a far more annoying version of Amnesia or Outlast :| Also, the "convenient" move speed of Ethan is annoying more than anything else. I'm guessing people are fanboying over this moreso because its a semi-competent first person, classic RE?

I feel like people who are saying this goes back to RE's roots have a very very fuzy memory of RE's roots.

You don't get hounded and totally overpowered by every damn enemy in the game in old RE's. You mostly fought slow zombies that you could easily kill, but might want to avoid to save ammo for REAL enemy ecounters. Nemesis is an exception, he hunted you a lot in RE3. But this plays WAY more into the jump scare and chase scare than REs past ever did.

It's fine, but this isn't oldschool RE game design. It's more accurate to call this a response to indie horror games as well as P.T., specifically.

Yea, I'm not liking the way the combat looks in this at all. Close range first person combat is the same reason I couldn't get into Oblivion but enjoyed Fallout 3 a lot. Not only does it just look (and I suspect, for myself, feel) disorienting, but it's hard for me to buy you can just hold up your arms and almost completely dull the impact of a spiked paint roller swung by an immortal mutant man.

Like @dr_mel said, I feel like this still misses a lot of the original spirit of Resident Evil in that it was more the general setting that was terrifying and the management of items and ammo. Oftentimes watching this Quick Look I was tense or jumpy (I'll wager Alex and I have a lot of the same basic anxieties) but I was also very confused by the spatial separation between player and enemy, why certain attacks were landing and some weren't, and why he was slinking through doors unscathed when it seemed like enemies were right behind him.

Part of that is likely just my general dislike / reaction for the first person perspective in most any game that isn't more of an arena shooter like DOOM or Bioshock Infinite, but I am genuinely surprised I haven't read more negative reaction to how the combat looks and feels. I wonder if it seriously just looks that much worse when you don't have your hands on it.

Setting and set up seems pretty interesting, though, and I get Dan was intentionally avoiding certain set pieces and attempting to show specific things which left him playing this game pretty differently than he would on his own time; overall I liked everything I saw here except the combat and the enemies in constant pursuit of you (I have still never played Resident Evil 3 because of the Nemesis...). I'd like to pick it up around Halloween when it'll likely get a nice PS+ discount (right?), assuming the price is right and I get over my immense fear of chasey dudes.

25 fucking minutes of avoiding combat when you could have just shot him FIVE TIMES IN THE HEAD and you'd be fine. fucking hell Dan. fucking hell.

Also there's no framiness on the PC like this ps4 pro shit at all, it's smooth as hell on my 980.

I took a lot of flack on the Resident Evil FP page when I merely suggested that the trailers showed a game that resembled Outlast more than Resident Evil. After watching this video, my opinion has not changed. I would rather spend my money on Outlast 2 or the RE2 remake. To me, Resident Evil is RE0 to RE3; everything else has been a side story, and I'm not even sure what this qualifies as in terms of plot...

As someone that can't afford to buy a PS4 Pro it sucks to hear that it might run great on a pro and not the base PS4. I only have a base PS4.

Resident Evil is one of my all-time favorite gaming franchises but hearing how much better it is with VR and playing it on the Pro almost makes me not wanting to play it at all right now. Why should I play an inferior version of the game?

Because whole point of the Pro is a 'superior gaming experience'. All the games from here on out are going to be inferior on the base model pretty much.

@el_dude_a_reno: I should clarify. When Vinny said it might run inferior I thought the framerate would be shite. But apparently that's not the case. It's no surprise that the game might look slightly better on a Pro but as long as RE7 also runs fine on base PS4 then it's fine.

The way Vinny talked about it it sounded like it would be a slideshow on base PS4. That's what was I was referring to when calling it an inferior version.

I hope that this is the path Resident Evil will take from now on. Instead of adding on to a convoluted lore that just got redundant really fast they can make standalone stories like this. Glad to see that RE is back and that Capcom did something right

Thanks for the video. Controls seem somewhat unwieldy in a very Resident Evil way but the creepiness factor of the environment and enemies has certainly piqued my interest. I was unsure about this game and now I actually want to play it after seeing this.

As a Scandinavian, growing up on movies like the Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Coming to America, there's two distinct ways that America look in my mind: Either like a modern, bustling city metropolis, like New York or San Francisco, or like this, which is everything outside the cities to me. When Dan said he came from Kansas, this is what I thought of.

What are you talking about? Yes, I did that then I tried stabbing him while he was on the ground but he said "That's not very nice." and got up immediately. Does he stay down if you don't knife him after he falls?

@stryker1121: Not just cannibals. I watched Deliverance too, so I know that there are also adept banjo savants outside town as well. Of course, there's intermittently the suburban neighbourhoods as we know them from the Simpsons, a Dirty Shame and Soundgarden's video "Blackhole Sun". The epitome of Americana

Love the atmosphere but the gameplay seems really bad. A lot of running and hiding and really bad controls it seems for the shooting and that chainsaw fight looked terrible gameplay wise. Maybe because I compare it to FPS games since it is first person but it looked really bad gameplay wise.

Is anyone else experiencing a ton of frame issues with the video, as well as loading issues? I'm on a beefy PC with a really strong internet connection, and it's constantly stuttering and loading for a second here or there.

The game seems to do its level loading in specific places like corners, i've noticed in other playthroughs many stutters to do with level streaming, even in the PC version.

@redhotchilimist: attacking people as cuck mostly came up with the US election stuff. If you're voting to make the world a better place for anyone except yourself (or your country) , you're like a cuck who let's other people have sex with your wife. That's the idea at least . The same word also carries the meaning of 'beta-male' instead of alphamale.

Twitch chat is pretty rampant with the word as well. If you're european, you're automatically a 'Europoor' and a cuck.

I can't handle this style of horror game, especially when it leans heavily on jump scares. I struggled through Alien: Isolation and loved it, but I think I don't want to play another game like that ever again. It's really hard for me to handle. I'm surprised the market is so big for these types of games. I guess I'm just a lightweight with horror games; even Bloodborne pushed me to the limit at points but that's mainly due to certain phobias.

@meauntienora: oh damn, i owned this. I still hear the loud screech when dad pops up from bed. Stressful :D

We also had a similar game that came in the shape of a mouth with pushable teeth. one tooth would make the .. lion? .. close his mouth with your finger in it. I remember that being pretty painful :P

I don't want to be,............ what one might call the quintenstial dick but this game isn't even remotely scary?

The HDR or the PS4 Pro or regular HDR or something made this demo ridiculously bright.

Furthermore, the voice acting was atrocious.

The whole thing felt hammy and awful.

I feel awful and criticial whining but it really wasn't slightly scary.

Sorry the game looked awful, cheap and not fun.
