Ive seen it in stores here for like a week, already picked up a copy myself, beautiful game.

I think it does a great job of mixing something like abzu and journey with a bit more actual gameplay & puzzlesolving. It reminds me of an Ueda game a bit as well .

This is going to sound odd, but I find that run animation really distracting.

Anyway, doesn't look like the game for me.

Looking at the game now it's released kind of bums me out. The game looks and sounds lovely but the character movement I find rather uncanny. Also, the shouty puzzles seems like a bit of a lame mechanical choice.

It's like this game got the broad strokes of games like Ico and Journey but failed to match the smaller details to make the game feel as intimate and immersive.

EDIT - Okay, the second half has me more intrigued :D

Very pretty, and sorta my thing. I'm just not in the mood for this type of game right now, I think. Gonna have to just make a note of it and maybe look into it later.

It feels like some of Brads complaints are a bit odd. Like a being stuck in an area because he didn't explore the place properly or thinking he had to throw an object instead of place it down. Aren't these common puzzle game concepts?

Every time I saw news about this game, I wondered what else there was to it. Now that I see this is it, I'm not as keen on it as I was before. I feel like something is missing seeing it in motion, but I can't put my finger on it.

The potential problem is the game gives you too many capabilities at once, not all of them pointful, where the usual puzzler doles out single concepts with an immediate use at the time of their appearance. I can see how Brad would get confused by a throwing interface that pops up whenever you pick up an object. It's reasonable to assume that the appearance of that interface means the game expects you to throw the thing right away. The game is unclear in that sense, contrary to today's puzzlers which are designed with clarity in mind.

Every criticism Brad has for this game sounds like something that'd work just as well when talking about any given Team Ico game. Oh yeah, also, it seems like all he got to see was the first introduction area of the game before this Quick Look and was already super down about the entire game. Now, I don't know how much else there is to this, but the art alone is usually enough to make me finish these types of games, even with some obtuse puzzles, shitty platforming sections or simplistic mechanics.

Except this game seems to run much better than the shitshows that were Ico and Shadow of the Colossus.

It doesn't seem obvious to my why Sony dropped this game. It seems pretty cool. Perhaps they just thought it filled a niche that they already had an abundance of games filling?

Having done the puzzles before seems like the right level of challenge for Brad on a quicklook! hehe But it did make for a much better viewing experience.

I can see why Sony dropped it. "Not another Last Guardian" this game type running overtime and over budget situation. Looks like a nice peaceful pretty but simple puzzle game like of Submerged that i'll play when I want to veg one day :)

Visually, this game look absolutely incredible to me, and that kind of bums me out. Because the actual gameplay doesn't interest me even a little. I actually wish this was a more conventional action adventure game.

Man, I'm actually pretty interested in this. These sorts of games are my favorite, even if the puzzles are a bit 'light' (Brad has a tendency to overthink puzzles from what I can tell too) I dig the art and the vibes. Plus it's another thing to play on my Switch.

Brad was definitely overthinking the puzzles. I think Alex is best at describing the merits of this type of game. I bought it despite the middling to negative sentiments in this quick look, and I'm very glad I did. Quite unexpectedly, Rime has landed in my top 3 games of the year so far. The artwork gets progressively lovelier, the music is fabulous throughout, the puzzles are pitched just right to cause a bit of head-scratching but never prolonged frustration; the controls are absolutely fine (much more responsive than The Last Guardian, for example) and the game never makes the mistake of over-punishing failure.

This game looks awesome and it scratches the same itch as something like ABZU or Shadow of the Colossus, but I think that the shouting mechanic is directly in conflict with the atmosphere. The hum that Brad showed off early on would have been nice, but literally screaming "HAAH" like a hungry, ill-mannered dog at this beautiful architecture is just ridiculous.

If Brad keeps playing this I'd be curious to hear on the podcast if he thinks it warrants the $30 price tag.

This seems like it would better with some Zelda like combat, these sort of trial and error puzzles don't seem enough to carry this game despite the neat art style.

This reminds me a lot of Land's End, the VR game by the makers of Monument Valley, in look and the feel of the puzzles.
