It may be overflowing with referential video game humor, but there's something here I'm really digging.

Sit back and enjoy as the Giant Bomb team takes an unedited look at the latest video games.

The trailer really put me off with it's tone and 'Heroes don't die, they respawn.' line but let's see what Vinny has to say. Gameplay seems like Jason would have fun with.

I'm not much for video game references in a video game, but I really like the look of this. And it seems like it would probably play well with a controller too, though like Vinny said mouse may be preferable.

I like what I'm seeing. Maybe someday when it's on a Steam sale. Not a huge fan of directed shooting like this, but the art and references all seem fun.

Dont think i've been dissapointed by an adult swim game yet besides jazzpunk which I did not find funny at all. This looks pretty fun once again.

Game's really good... and really hard. Looks beautiful too. The humor was kind of hit or miss for me, but it didn't really get in the way.

Those RC bullet bits look like a total pace-killer. I'd be all over this if it leaned harder on the run-and-gun stuff.

Generic Webcomic: The Videogame. I am shocked this has a publisher behind it and no one told them that trying to do a "grim" war story while making a bunch of awful jokes is super lame. But, hey, CAD managed to be incredibly popular for years, so this will probably do great numbers for them.

The GB team has a very limited knowledge of flash animation and it shows. Some of the best animated content, frame by frame hand drawn goes above and beyond the scope of what I think they lump together. This game's assets very well could have been drawn in flash- so while it's about video games and not animation, I get it, but it would be silly to point to anything with sharp vector artwork as 'flash' and be dismissive about it. There is no set 'flash style'. Seems nitpicky, but maybe a better way to phrase it would be 'bad vector art' instead of a go-to program to bag on, and write off the hundreds of thousands of innovative flash-made works that don't fit in the context of animation trends or a lazy/flawed/uninspired-vector-artwork based piece of material. Again, nitpicking word choices when they probably just don't know, but Flash is just a tool, the art that comes from it is a totally separate story based on the artist.

Also anyone more interested in game animation, this looks like it was largely made in MOHO studio, another vector based animation program that makes exporting assets to engines fairly easy without having to redraw a lot of the characters etc.

As an "artist" person, I'm sorry this is my own personal pet peeve, but not everything has to emulate an anime art style. Look at like Mark of the Ninja or Insivible Inc - amazing looking art that is completely unique. Look at Samurai Jack, which for all intents and purposes is like a western show emulating an anime, but with it's own artistic spin on it. I think it is really tiring and somewhat disappointing to see a lot of young artists continue to try and emulate anime as if that is the end all be all of animation - and don't get me wrong, I do like anime, Cowboy Bebop is the greatest animated show on the planet, but not everything has to look like it. Especially when the quality is not up to snuff.

Sorry for the rant that is completely unrelated to the core gameplay which looks fun enough.

Seems like a decent game. The one big petpeeve i have with the combat is how it applies it rules inconsistantly. Let's look at that boss fight.

When the 'weak spot' markers appear, mousing over them and clicking is enough. Even when the markers are on the back of the robot. Makes it feel like the player is sitting in a helicopter at the side of the boss , instead of the player character shooting the boss while standing in front of him.

When you need to hit the core, suddenly you're required to manually steer the bullet to the robot's back to hit the core. The gun had no problems hitting the back before, why is it an issue now?

If you don't hit the head, bullets miss the boss and go in front of him. If you hit the boss in the head, bullets actually hit the boss on the same plane in the head. Why wouldn't the bullets just be ineffective if you don't hit the head. Why this confusion about different planes?

thats fair - im sure the thought process was "we want to make the player use multiple mechanics they know how to do for this boss" and went ahead with it. People tend to dislike too much focus testing in games but perhaps things like that would be brought to attention? Its really hard for the creators of the game to catch all these types of things

@blacklab: Despite living relatively close to the Willamette River (and pronouncing it that way), I've always pronounced it "will-uh-met" in the Dead Rising context. I think maybe it's pronounced that way in the game.

@iloveyouprismo: I think that they could make 2 small changes and totally fix my problems, while keeping all the mechanics of the fight intact.

1. When the markers appear, only put them on the front of the boss . You can put one on each shoulder, one on the head, one one the chest, and it would pretty much be the same idea / difficulty as it is now. That whole stage doesn't seem challenging in this state neither, since you only have to drag your mouse over the targets.

2. Stop all projectiles if they hit the boss on a spot where he doesn't receive damage. Htting the enemy's head already indicates that's the weak part. Making all other bullets stop as they hit the boss instead of traveling further, makes it more believable that both characters are actually on the same plane.

With these changes, it would make complete sense that you need to use the manual bullets to reach the backside of the boss.

Hmm, this doesn't seem all that 'anime' to me though. Alex's comment about it looking like almost every webcomic ever seems more fitting, though I suppose a lot of that stuff does borrow from anime styles a bit. But I don't know, I also think Mark of the Ninja is the most generic looking shit ever, something that was an unfortunate through line of Klei games until they started creating more original styles in Don't Starve and Invisible Inc.

@yummytreesap: The eyes and face shape are very clearly inspired by anime, but like I said it's a personal thing that I notice. If you don't and it doesn't bother you, as it probably doesn't bother 95% of people on Earth since this style is so popular these days, then hey awesome.

EDIT: That said I think Mark of the Ninja had an awesome art style that reminded me a bit of Samurai Jack which I enjoyed quite a bit back in the day. But to each their own and all that, style is a super subjective matter.

Boy that gun dialog sure is cringey. If they'd just pulled it completely out of the game I think it would have made for a better game. The actual gameplay and art seems pretty good.

This kinda stuff w/ art and characters is a hobby of mine (not yet into game dev)..and I'd like to see more developers use less gags and referential call backs and try to use some actual writing in these games..even if it's non-serious (think a sci fi like Bone). I feel it would make people take their games more seriously. This game looks amazing with art/mechanics but because of the type of content I can see people ignoring it.
