Quick Look: Road Show: Grid 2

The lack of a cockpit is a huge minus for me. Here's to hoping that we'll get a new Forza or Dirt early on in the next gen so I can get my racing fix.

I've seen enough, its copy paste of Grid with dumb down game (no cockpit etc) skipping this.

Nice to see Grid 2 however.

This game looks pretty fantastic, and that guy does a great job of selling it, also there was a shout out for Brands Hatch, which is one of my favourite circuits outside of Donington. I loved F1 2011 from codemasters but thought 2012 was buggy as hell and not a great simulation racing game. I hope this game turns out great. Come to think of it codemaster's has a good legacy on this stuff outside of dirt and CMR. TOCA2 on PSX was awesome.

However, I don't like that this kind of video falls under the quick look category I mean, sure it's a "quick look" and it's "on the road" but to me quick looks (excluding EXs) are the team talking freely about the game exploring/playing freely within it, not shown specific segments or, as a lot of this appears to be, talking over the "attract mode".

Maybe it's just my preconception of what "Quick Look" videos are and of what it entails is wrong.

That has been their style for events since they exist.

No cockpit view was such a dumb decision. This went from a day one purchase to possibly a day never.

Cannot wait for this game, even switched my pre-order to the PC version should be a better version now they are on Steamworks rather then GFWL.

Looks pretty cool, will probably get it eventually but as I'm pretty damn burned out on GT5 and Forza atm I don't think I need more racing in my life yet.

Also the lack of cockpit view could be due to the fact that this gameplay was from an alpha build, no? Hopefully anyways.

The fact that I can comment, with a sticky video, while streaming perfect non-youtube HD is just amazing...thank god for engineers.

Codemasters always delivers. I have a feeling that Grid 2 will be pretty fantastic.

This isn't anywhere near a simulation, it doesn't matter how high their refresh rate is. I'm ok with that though. I loved the first GRID and still play it from time to time. Can't wait to try this out.

I really want this game...to have a cockpit view so I can actually justify paying money for it. Without it, I just cannot betray my preferences for theirs. I really cannot do it. I understand that there are people who don't understand it, and that's fine. You don't have to understand it. However, given the pedigree that GRID comes from (RaceDriver series, Colin McRae, etc), not having a cockpit view is just bullshit up and down. With this game taking so long to come out, there's literally no reason I can think of why there is no cockpit view.

Point the nose around the track. Its funny how they can work that simple concept up so much. "Its quick, furious, passion, drama." Nah man, its a car going around a track. I'll be buying it :)

Looks like it could be an interesting game. I am a bit concerned about the whole tracks changing as you race on them thing, but this demo did not seem to show that. The A1 Ring included in the game may have just sold me on this (I am a Codemasters fan, but this whole track changing thing really does have me concerned as I do not feel I could enjoy that in a game like this, maybe in Burnout or that style of game, sure, but not sure with this one).

No cockpit view? That's lame. A shame too, the game looks beautiful. I just can't drive without my cockpit view.

Having not played a hardcore racing sim since Dirt 1, this looks pretty amazing.

The game is still in development. Cockpit view was a big thing with them in the first game. Maybe they're still modeling the interiors?

I really hope that is the case, i preferred using the external view when TVs where 4:3 but with 16:9 i really like to use a cockpit view when i can and i think grid done it really well.

Nope, they confirmed no cockpit after saying that telemetry said very few people used it, and they preferred to put more polys on the outside of the cars instead.

Really, really, REALLY bummed that there is no cockpit view. I'm not sure I want GRiD 2 anymore ;_;

They finally got around making a sequel to Grid and they don't include a cockpit view. Absolutely baffling.

This is not the sequel to the Midway game. Why did I think that's what this was when a Grid 2 QL was mentioned a week or two ago?

Might sound a bit dramatic but I'll probably pass for now if there isn't a cockpit view. Shame really because it looks fantastic otherwise.

Game looks pretty good.... but I have a feeling Forza 5 is going to be revealed as an xbox launch game and give it a run for it's money. Also I feel like it should look a lot better than dirt, but it doesn't.

That city road course fondly reminds me of my beloved PGR. Need to see more of this.

Loved the first Grid and I'm looking forward to this one.

Though I did enjoy playing with the cockpit view in the first GRID it's no tremendous loss, especially if the environments and atmosphere of the first can be replicated. This looks great.

Adding myself to the list of folks disappointed by the apparent lack of a cockpit camera.

No cock-pit really is a make or break for me. I can't play racing games without it :(

The first Grid is on my all time favorite racing game list. Loved the hell out of it, and the whole sponsorship shit it had. Hearing they are bumping up the narrative part of it is fantastic.

Still bummed there's no cockpit view. This looks fine, but the damage seems kind of lacking, and they've probably got most of the assists on here, but the handling isn't nearly as dramatic. There aren't many racing semi-sims coming out anymore though, especially with PGR being gone. I really wish I was more excited for this, considering how much I played GRiD and racing games in general.

Why do I feel like this game already came out? Not like a game similar but Gird 2. Have they been showing this for a while, or was it all just a dream?

@icantbestopped: But with the racers that Codemasters make, Nintendo simply isn't in that next gen discussion. Visual clarity is one of their top priorities and they were one of the first devs to make use of DX11. With Nintendo, you're only going to be seeing games on par with what's already out there.

This just popped up on my radar big time. I wasn't even thinking about this series until I saw this video. I'm moving to PC for the generations to come as I don't see myself buying another console again.

This should at least help me forget about Forza.

Wait, I didn't hear a statement about there being no cockpit view in that footage. Is this seriously confirmed, that is insane. GRID was the game that convinced me cockpit view was the way to play, it's still one of the best cockpit views there is, Ryan did mention this was "alpha" footage, maybe it's just not in yet? I mean think about this rationally, Midnight club LA had a cockpit view. What slice of their prospective audience benefits from not having that option?

@tekzero: Why not do both? thats what i do. i primarily play games on the PC but have an Xbox and PS3(had a PS3) for any of the exclusive stuff.

Is it just me or is this game simply gorgeous EXCEPT for the car models?

Do people think that if they continue to say "no cockpit no sale" that they're going to eventually put it in?

Especially funny when it'll probably end up just like when everyone said they wouldn't buy CoD on Steam, 70% of you are going to buy it having made that declaration or not.
