I just watched the USA team play in WR Sevens World Series the other weekend. We didn't seem to be as bad as Danny or the game made it out to be. Also Danny + any Duder makes for a great quick look.

"Huh, that'd be a lot easier to figure out if it said 12 instead of 68."

"I know––subtraction's so difficult."

I lost it.

Sadly Rugby would never take off in the US as there's very few stoppages.

It looks like they forgot to give the players running physics. They turn on a dime with no sense of momentum.

Nice primer on the origins of organized football and rugby on the BBC History podcast with football historian Richard Sanders: http://www.historyextra.com/podcast/victorians/tudor-portraits-and-victorian-footballers Interview with Sanders starts at around 26.20.

@animasta: I was wondering this too. I love the MLS. Lower level play, sure. But so much more fair than any of the Euro leagues.

Because it's about on the level of the top flight in Scotland. And trust me when I say that Scottish league football is dreadful (in an endearing way. I enjoy it but it's not "good").

@krevee: Sevens is not "real" rugby. Some countries are much better at one than the other.

I'm really looking forward to the day Dan decides to finally visit Europe. He should definitely record every minute of it and his reactions to everything.

A good parallel is Sprint Football to College Football. Princeton (and a number of other small colleges) happens to great at the former, but no way could they even compare to an SEC CFB team.

A "Soggy Biscuit" mini-game would be ideal for Kinect integration.

Also - looking forward to Scotland's probable wooden spoon decider with Italy tomorrow. Yay Scotland!... wooo... :(

@forkboy: I see where you're coming from. Relatively speaking, MLS is rubbish compared to the Premiership or BBVA. But if you find yourself amenable to the low-level play, there's a lot to love in the MLS. Kaka is coming this year! Can't wait to watch him play. All I'm saying is, if you're already in the USA, don't write off the MLS right away. And Danny's in the Bay Area, he could go watch Wondo play! At the end of the day, football is football, and I love it all.

@dan_citi: Yes, it’s the official term for the Extra Point in the rules.

The term just shifted in rugby.

Because in rugby and football a touchdown/try or run-in as it was called then in rugby, didn’t give you any points but the chance to try to kick for goal.

If the kick was sucessful it was converted to a goal, hence the term conversion for the points after the try in Rugby.

Soon enough they began to give points for the try been awarded, so the term shifted to the act of grounding the ball.

@yesiamaduck: I remember playing it as a kid. That and the World Cup 95 game. I had fun with them but I'm not sure if they were actually good. It always seemed to be easier to find open space than in actual top level rugby games.
