In Australia whether you prefer Aussie Rules or Rugby is generally based on location. The northern states prefer Rugby and the southern states prefer AFL (Australian rules).

It cannot be stressed enough how lame soccer is.

Aussie Rules would be Australia's biggest/most attended sport, followed by cricket and Rugby. Cricket's probably most universal though, since Queensland and NSW are all "Rugby ftw" over the AFL.

Also, this game is awful. Jonah Lomu Rugby Challenge 2 is by far the best Rugby game. Unfortunately it's super expensive and rare for how old of a game it is now.

The running speed is way too fast and unrealistic....tis a shame, because it looks like the rest of the package is fairly solid

@dannyodwyer And AFL is by far the most popular sport in Australia. Then cricket (maybe), though cricket and the football codes don't really compete. Rugby League would be next, then union. Rugby is really only played in nsw and queensland, and whilst its the dominant footy code in those states. AFL is basically everywhere else. As a victorian. I know a little of league, and nothing of union. Interesting no? No, you're right it wasn't. Have a good day sir!

I love that half of this is Dan and Jeff learning what rugby is and Danny defends the name of things. The second half appears to be a game in which no-one plays rugby but instead kicks the ball :)

I will second the Jonah Lomu suggestion, except I played the 360/PS3 version (Jonah Lomu Rugby Challenge). A much better game overall, it certainly plays less arcade-y than Rugby 15 does (or at least looked like during the QL).

God damn I love Dan. He's such a master troll. I can't believe he's been at GB for this long and people STILL get butt hurt in the comments section about his commentary. Makes reading the comments more interesting and fun.

I can't believe there are still people who don't realize 95% of what Dan says and does isn't serious.

I mean, listen to the guy on Danswers. He's clearly a well reasoned, thoughtful, functional human being.

But he also understands that his job here is to be funny and entertaining, and he does it extremely well. It's been said before, but he is absolutely the heel of Giant Bomb. The sooner you accept that, the sooner you will learn to love what he's doing.

Coming from someone who has neither any idea about Rugby or American Football, I gotta say that Rugby looks much, much more fun and interesting.

Dan is in character when he's acting like a super patriotic child. I'm curious if, like in wrestling, it's older viewers who are able to quickly pick up on his not being serious, whereas the younger viewers believe it to be real.

Every time I see a video with a lot of comments I can guarantee people are complaining about how the duders are interacting with one another. Chill the fuck out.

You do know what jokes are, yes? Dan's been playing up the "stereotypical American" persona for years. You don't need to like his shtick, of course, but a shtick is exactly what it is. Nothing he said in this QL came across as anything more than ribbing.

Dan is an ass, and that's okay. I just don't get why so many people feel a need to defend his asshole ways. If he's an adult who can take care of himself, he doesn't need a defense brigade to shout down his naysayers.

When you "pretend" to be an asshole 99 goddamn percent of the time, it's not pretending. You're just an asshole.

And that's fine, but don't spend your days convincing people that Dan is just trolling or doing any sort of amazing satire.

I think this makes me the fool, but I was legitimately surprised to see this comments section to be another one full of outrage. I guess I shouldn't be surprised, but really, there were not many triggers in this at all. Yes, Dan did the America comments, but it wasn't even in the "trolly" way that he does sometimes. His comments were all basic, in good nature, and benign with Jeff was making the exact same kinds of jokes. The "worst" of it was the time counter discussion and Danny was pretty fierce (in a joking way of course) on that.

I am mainly inspired to type this by the "stop defending and let people complain" posters. We're not "defending" so much as we are tired of this repetitive, frustrating cycle of close minded rage. It is an endless pattern. The community creates an exaggerated view on a duder's personality and then bases all of their feelings on it. Here are the community myths that I have observed:

Dan is an overly close-minded American jerk who is a man baby and likes to troll people to be an asshole. Brad is bad at games, super tired all the time, and puts no effort into anything. Rorie is a loudmouth who can be awkward and pig headed in situations. Jeff is cynical and grumpy and hates everything. Patrick is a Social Justice Warrior who is pretentious and preachy. There can be some truth to these, but they are all overly exaggerated. You can see people in GBeast video comments at times desperately trying to craft one of these for Alex. Luckily none of these overly exaggerated personality types have stuck for him yet.

People buy into these caricatures and they start to think of the person in nothing but this light. If something occurs into a video or podcast that triggers one of these perceptions, everyone starts to complain about it in the realm of the established staff stereotype. Certain subjects will exasperate triggers too. For example, people probably went in presuming that Dan would rail against European sports because of the subject of the quick look and the made up perception of him, so ergo, they probably went in expecting Dan to be a jerk. He made some comments, but all in jest, yet they still hit the triggers. There is also a ranking too. When Patrick worked at GB, he would trigger the most no matter who was on the video. I would say Rorie is next, especially on UPF videos. Next would be Dan and Brad on equal ground. Finally, there is Jeff, who only triggers if no one else has.

So, we're not defending I would say. Rather, we are tired of seeing the same damn arguments and comments over and over again. You think Dan is an ignorant asshole. We get it. It gets tiring to hear about it over and over again, especially considering the man seemed to like rugby by the end and is probably more open minded in real life than everyone complaining about it here.
