Quick Look: Rugby 15

I live just outside Newport in South Wales, home of the Newport Gwent Dragons. It is beyond bizarre to see Americans talking about something that is so very local. Yes rugby is internationally popular with huge international sides and support, but the Dragons are notthat.

Also, for no-one in particular: the Ospreys used to be the Neath Swansea Ospreys. Like the Dragons and the Cardiff Blues, they are a Welsh team. The osprey as an animal is a bird of prey, like a hawk. And I might pick this up if I can find it cheap.

Australia's big sports are definitely Rugby League(different sport to this), soccer, cricket, Rugby Union(this sport) in that order. In terms of media and culture and stuff. Actually even tennis gets more exposure than Union when there's a grand slam on

Yeah, Dan is actually an asshole. I mean, what else does trolling, pranking and harassing people on Twitter add up to? Actually, he may be more of a douchebag. Assholes are usually aware they are assholes, pretty sure Dan thinks he's being a "cool guy" when he acts like an asshole. So, yeah, douchebag.

Wow Jeff. Bringing up Sinn Féin all of a sudden to an Irishman when you're talking about parts of England is kind of not cool! As in, everything about that is bad.

The Irishman in question makes Troubles jokes when playing Bomberman games on UPF.

Comment on the quick look itself: It was a fun quick look, but yeah, I can't say I enjoy Dan's chest beating about having the superior sport, even if it's an act. I don't think winding people up is clever or funny. Not sure if it's feedback you care about, but it's the feedback I'm giving.

I don't think it's entirely a "bit", he definitely lives it to a certain extent. I mean he's taken first dates to underground wrestling events, he refuses to eat new foods because "it's not worth the risk", and he doesn't understand what a mortgage is. The guy is a big kid, not that there's anything wrong with that.

I feel sorry for Danny as the only one who knows anything of rugby and for having patience with Dan. Also please take Dan to try and play a game of football, I would love to see that.

I love how despite knowing almost nothing about these non-US sports games they almost always end up with the closest finishes. What a fantastic ending. Not the best video game, though.

Why does Dan insist on comparing himself to Rocky? First off, he's usually the heel, so he'd be Drago or Lang or Creed. Secondly, not a week goes by without him making that comparison, I'm starting to think he's delusional and ACTUALLY believes he's Rocky. XD

Seriously though, did I say I was "seriously upset"? I said it's annoying because the joke is that he's trying to wind people up by "playing" an all-American dummy who thinks his tastes are superior to everyone else's. I'm just saying I don't find those kinds of acts funny. I'm not upset by it, just annoyed that this is the way Dan tries to get laughs.

Loving how Danny shut down Dan's timer critique by pointing out the whole living in a bubble thing.

I believe so. But it actually meant "try." As in: "attempt."

Instead of shortening, "succeeding at an attempt/try" to "scoring a try" they just used a different word describing the actual action taking place. That being touching down in the opponent's designated end zone. Which sounds more sensical and happens to fit neatly with the whole "downs" concept of having four chances to set the ball 'down' before you turn[ it ]over to the other team if you don't travel far enough to reset the count or score.

On the somewhat interesting topic about the myopic American "bubble," I definitely appreciated Danny taking Dan to task a little for it. I mean, I get it - he's the heel, he's "just playing a character," it's all "jokes." Even if that is true, that doesn't make it any less obnoxious and annoying at times. Hundreds of angry comments worth of annoying? Maybe not. Perhaps some folks take his annoying schtick more personally than they should.

No mention of AFL in all that? It's pretty big, yo.

Rugby seems all right. The different leagues and team names seem confusing, but I guess that's sports.

Let's be honest, the clock should count down how much time is left in a game. Of course you can subtract time spent from the total. It's easier to just put the remain time. I get Danny's argument, but come on. Whatever.

I shouldn't be so flippant - My uncle broke his neck and died playing rugby. My little brother broke his neck and lived (and is fortunately 100% fine today). My mate broke his leg so badly it's now 2 inches shorter than the other one.

Awesome, I love it! I know just a little about the sport, I wanted to yell "pass it!" in the first half, but such fun to watch Dan and Jeff play :)

It's just not a sports quick look without Vinny, but this was still pretty funny. Dan's choke job at the end of the game was hilarious.

This was a great quick look. I couldn't keep from cracking up at the "Lou Rugby" bit. I can't wait for the next Non-American sport explained poorly by Danny O'Dwyer quick look. Maybe they can find a Bowls game.

Honestly the game seems pretty fun. I don't know the sport at all, but if it were more polished I could definitely see having a good time with that.

Well the response from a lot of viewers is that they feel attacked/annoyed by him, to them it's not funny, neither it is to me. So I think it's time to change the approach.
