This game seemed really cool on PC but the community for it died off so fast that I really regret buying it...

Oh... The PC release didn't have any singleplayer components. If it did it would have had more longevity... Hopefully they can add those updates for those who bought it initially.

There were no bots as well.

The benefit of "Neo Mode", as you call it, is gonna be downsampling for 1080p players, giving you "free" anti-aliasing.

Microsoft has absolutely cannibalized their console by offering the games on PC.

If you wanna play all games in 2017, it's gonna be PlayStation 4, PC, Neo Geo Pocket Color and whatever Nintendo NX is gonna be.

It was fantastic on PC but you're right, it only took a few weeks for it to die completely. It mixed dog fights in jet planes with something akin to Quake, in a similar way to how Rocket League mixes driving and football, so it's a shame it didn't see success, maybe it was too hardcore with mouse control and it'll see a community on consoles.

@godzilla_sushi: No, no. Games are also available on Xbox One, just not only Xbox One. It's like popcorn at a movie theater. They are available at the bar, but you can also just find them on the floor. They're slightly worse than the popcorn you get at the bar, but they're still popcorn.

That is the Xbox One experience: Eating popcorn off the floor. :D

Aw man, every opinion on this thing rubs me the wrong way. How they don't care that mobile games deal with the same hardware updates just fine, how they dismiss other game launchers even though there are now plenty out there as good as Steam. How a GPU alone is more expensive than any of these consoles, new or old...

Man, the problem with this stuff is not what actually happens, it's how we all still assume that there is a single type of console purchaser or game player. Just... ugh.

Anyway, this game is fun for ten minutes, but they really should add playlists to it because I've never seen more than two people at the same time on the PC version. Not that I've tried a lot.

Brad you nerd, hating on anime wont get you into the cool club, I already tried. The Japanese contribution the modern sci-fi aesthetic, specifically mech design is one of the few good things to arise from anime.

If not for the dumb anime stink we'd still have dumpy tanks with fat legs, farting around on shitty boosters.

The issue I see with Microsoft is not in their strategy, but in how their strategy changes overnight. If they stick to it and keep doing the cross promotion between PC and XBOX they will start to get traction, but inevitably someone new will come in and change direction of the company squandering any progress made with their current war path.

While there are all these new options, I don't think it changes that much other than perception. The games are still going to run fine on the base-line console. Most of this is simply for getting extra money from those who are willing to spend it. They do however need to refocus their messaging. Just lay it out plane and simple for people. This will run stuff well at a higher resolution, but if you just want to play the games and don't have a great TV, you don't need it.

NoelVeiga, you are correct. If you are a kid, it is easier to explain how to buy a gaming console then how to build a PC to your parents. If you are a guy with three kids who works a day job, the last thing you want to do is build a PC. It really depends on who you are. To their point about graphics. I bet that people would prioritize frame rate if you asked them, but choose graphics if you ran a study. (if they did not know they were choosing)

There isn't actually, every other storefront lacks a ton of Steam's features. And there's a wide range of graphics cards available below the prices of these consoles which can easily hold their own (plus over five year old, supercheap CPUs that run circles around them).

Then buy prebuilt. I mean the average age of PC gamers is considerably higher so many don't seem to have that problem and it's weird that there's this new narrative about PC being for the young with too much time.

I like the analogy....it's more like which theater floor you plan to eat from though! There are plenty of arguments to be made for everything as there always have been.

@razgriz_one: Building a modern PC is very straightforward. If you ensure your part compatibility and don't get any duds a non-expert can put together a machine and be gaming on it in half a day easily. The idea that PCs are so hard to build and maintain is elitist claptrap, pcmasterrace is the platform equivalent of Dark Souls fanboys.

@ferenz: Right as you and others may be that building a PC is easy, I am not the one you need to convince of this. (For one, I already built my own PC) Different people have different backgrounds that lead them in certain directions. You can't tell a kid who won't get more than 400 bucks in one go and who has friends at school playing games on xbox to build a pc because they don't want to. Not only do they not want to, but you can't convince them otherwise. If all your arguments are based on the idea that everyone is you, then sure... but they are not, so consoles still exist and STILL outsell PC.

While I agree with the idea of different strokes for different folks, I think steam is so much stronger than Origin and other services that its not even a competition. The only reason I see to visit origin is to pick up the Mass Effect series for pc. I do think however that Microsoft could put up a good fight if they leveraged xbox games. I just don't see them committing to it because Microsoft never sticks to one strategy for long.

@derexperte: Don't have to convince me. Have to convince the guy who says PC's are too complicated. Good luck.

Also I would not tell someone who knows nothing about computers to buy a pre-built. They would either buy a 2000$ computer they did not need, or get something broken. I would likely just put together a package on new egg and tell them buy this, and I will come over and build it when it comes.

@razgriz_one: Yeah, I mean I did say that preferring consoles was fine. I wouldn't suggest that somebody without a decent amount of expendable income and/or enough time and patience for tinkering choose PC over console. I was specifically responding to the idea that an adult with a full time job and kids would avoid building a PC because of the perceived difficulty or time commitment. Consoles make perfect sense for people that just want to play games and don't want to make the time/expense commitment of PC.

There isn't actually, every other storefront lacks a ton of Steam's features. And there's a wide range of graphics cards available below the prices of these consoles which can easily hold their own (plus over five year old, supercheap CPUs that run circles around them).

I reeeally don't want to have this conversation in these terms, but I own this puppy

https://www.amazon.com/Gigabyte-GeForce-Gaming-GDDR5-Graphics/dp/B00NH5T1MS

which is about on par with a PS4 Pro. The next iterations on AMD on par with this (AMD rx480 and Nvidia 1060) are targeting 200 and 250, respectively. And trust me, if you have a 4K display and not aiming to spend more than 400 bucks, those are not what you want to put on your PC. You want the 1070, which starts at the same price as the Pro.

Now, granted, these all are targets for 60fps gaming, but if you're the kind of gamer already focusing on consoles, interested on playing nice looking games with no hassle, this is still the simples, most cost effective thing to do.

But hey, I'm not one of those. I own all current gen consoles AND a gaming PC. I'm the other kind. I'm the kind, in fact, that has hundreds of games on multiple PC storefronts, so I'm pretty aware that none of them, including Steam, are anywhere close to a one stop solution for everything you want to do. Origin, Battle.Net and Uplay all have exclusives, so you need those (and Origin and Battle.Net are actually just fine). GOG I actually prefer over Steam, precisely BECAUSE it's lighter (if I don't have to open a pack of fake trading cards ever again I'll be a happy man). But really, if you're gaming on PC and have been for a while at this point you just want some form of ur-storefront that will capture your collections from all of these automatically, because frankly, the biggest problem I have is I need to check like four different places if I already own a game on every Steam sale.

And those are just my problems. Other people have other stances, issues and preferences. The point being that you or Brad or Jeff going "just buy a PC" or "nobody wants anything outside of Steam" are statements the press could make maybe in the 90s, when all consoles and games were targeted at 15 year olds, so value, price and use cases were very predictable. These days, I know gamers who just want a sleek box that slides under their TV because they don't own a desktop PC at all and only game once a week when the kids are sleeping. Or gamers who DON'T want consoles, but want their PC to be a laptop because they move around a bunch and want their HD gaming to come with. Or people who want consoles because they need their games to come in a disc they can play offline. Or whatever.

Consoles aim at the same groups as phones do now. They do more. So do games. The idea that there is a single magic bullet of games hardware and software that is the right combination is ludicrous in 2016.

i have 2 UPlay games from when i bought my video card, and i don't touch them because of UPlay (Just Cause 3 and the newest Assassins Creed). Help, how do I get them on Steam!?
