Quick Look: Stronghold 3

I'm really, really bad at strategy games. That being said, I usually really like the idea of them. Sadly, in Stronghold 3's case, I doubt I could get suffer through the seemingly abysmal controls to get at the game beneath.

Look at the top. You have your options, streaming/prog./ you-tube upper left corner. Standard/High/HD upper right for the first 2. i saw the same thing on my second effort.

Stronghold has always been a bit of a niche game, but I love that you got the picture of launching a cow for the thumbnail XD

YouTube player is so much better than the one that was being used before. Silly it's not HD when it's YouTube paying the bandwidth bills, though.

360P is rather out of date, especially in 2011.

If you guys didn't notice, it's playing in a Youtube player. The tricaster broke, so this is what they need to do until they get a replacement running.

That's not true at all. Read the news, all non-subscribers video (e.g. non-HD) are on youtube from now on.

Not to mention that we can't change the viewing format unless we refresh the entire page, which is a bit wonkier than desired given Giant Bomb's somewhat recent front page/video format changes. It would also be a lot better if it didn't default to Youtube for Premium members, further inconveniencing them.

I don't quite see why they don't just add the HD videos to youtube now. I understand why they didn't do it before (bandwidth costs), but now all of the bandwidth costs are for youtube. It is no cost for them to provide HD videos to everyone. This is especially frustrating for games like Battlefield 3, where I would like to see how good the game looks before purchasing... guess I'll just head over to gametrailers or somewhere else.

OK, I should've specified. Youtube just adds a lot of compression on top of the already low quality videos, so they become pretty unwatchable. I've complained about the low quality before the switch.

I get the decision, but to me it is a disservice to the site to have it like that. These guys do a lot of original content, so that should be the catch for their subs, not worse than cellphone quality vids vs. HD, imo. I get they don't want advertisements on the site, but even guys who stream games from their mom's houses have better quality video. Just an observation.

I found Stronghold 2 really frustrating, because it seems like a great idea for a game, but it was so poorly executed in terms of lousy controls, not enough feedback from the UI about the effect I was having on the town, etc. Stronghold 3 seems to suffer from the same problems, which is upsetting when you realize that, if they fixed those issues, it might be an awesome game.

This seems a bit dry, especially with no music at all. This game really needs a soundtrack.

"Loose connective tissue" is an actual biological thing. Is Drew even more like Dexter than we thought? I wonder what his hobbies are outside of work.

This. They put themselves in an awkward situation because they don't want to make subscriptions seem like a bad value.
