It looks nice but the ads take up way too much space.

It would be really nice if they offered refunds for themes with all of these new dashboards. They seriously have no shame about charging people for aesthetic changes only to make them impossible to use and view in the next software revision.

Seems odd to have the video tab before the games tab.

@onan: I believe the themes still work with the new dashboard. To be honest I feel as though the themes are a little too expensive as it is anyways.

I personally hate the new XBox dash. I have been in the beta for a bit now and the fact that 80%+ of your home screen is an ad is fucking ridiculous and inexcusable. If I could customize it I wouldn't care, but you can't. Most of that dashboard, outside of social, is trying to get you to buy more stuff.

The ad placement and frequency is sort of a bummer, but honestly isn't really a big deal. Most of the larger ads aren't ads at all, but rotating 'newest content' kinda boxes, same stuff you'd see on lots of web sites, just a rotating carosel of latest released content that helps keep you up to date on the newest indie games or games on demand titles etc.

I do wish Gold had 'some' noticable impact on the 'true' ads featured on the dashboard though, you know... the ones for cars and stuff, I don't want a ford ad on my gaming console please.

Not liking the ads, there are even more ads displayed at once now than before and as a paying gold member, I'd expect they give me the option to turn off the ads completely! But no, when I turn on the xbox I'm greeted by a screen full of ads and my game has been shoved into a tiny box on the left side.

And the crappy fog that covers the bottom half of my wallpaper is still there. What the fuck, Microsoft?

Also, the marketplace menu is horse-shit with the few options displayed at a time, some of which don't stand out next to the ads makes it even worse (like "game type" for example). They shouldn't have used pics for these.

Star Trek IV is, sadly, not on Netflix Streaming.

This whole thing seems kinda gross, sure you can just hit Play a lot easier, but the ads still take up 3/4 of the screen and that keyboard is awful. Also that you have to go so far into it to download actual games is really gross. I'm very quickly getting over the Xbox, even though it nailed a lot of stuf, it's been completely ruined by it's marketing.

I kind of like the new setup. I like how I can play my current game with 1 button press from the starting screen. Unlike before. I like how I can bring up my recent games with 1 stick flick and a press. I don't like the lack of sorting features. Like how my XBLA list has everything crammed together. It's like they gave up organizing and let Bing handle it. I positively hate how they new aesthetic is part of all the video apps too. I don't want your design, I want as many options crammed on the screen as possible. The idea of Beacons is cool, but unless you have a big friends list (I do not), it's not very useful. I want them for games none of my friends own. But until you can set them for the general populace, they are a small fraction of their potential.

Oh God, this is soo terrible. They say Robocop too many times.

At least they didn't break premium theme things, but they looked better with the z-axis movement rather than the flattened aspect.

Beacons might be useful.

It was the ECW Zombie. And then Sandman came out and caned him death. Well, second death. Actually there probably was a mummy at one point, it became a running gag of some SciFi themed character coming out, and then Sandman destroying them with a kendo stick. There were vampires, though. Then the one vampire turned into a Mexican and then a fetish model.

hmm, does the cloud save mean that I now have to pick save unit every time I start up a game ? Remember having a USB stick in my xbox for a little while and it was damn annoying always getting that pop-up.

The only good thing I can see about this is that things are now in a set place. It's not like when you go looking for Xbox Live sales and have to scan a bunch of ads to find the right item. Now it'll be on the third page, upper right corner, or whatever. That lets you mentally block the ads because your eyes avoid the space since it's been deemed as useless information. It's the same way most people completely don't notice the brand of television they're watching, even though it's plastered right across the bezel on most TVs.
