Press square! PRESS IT! And no, the anti-armor is not good against infantry. No wonder you have so many bronze! @brad

The bulk of the attention was on this game apparently. As they all but stopped updating Toy Soldiers: Complete months ago to "focus" on other stuff. Also I don't know if they're still working on that free to play game Ascend: Hand of Kul as that was a mess on the PC, dropped from the 360 at some point and has never left beta on either platform.

I like Signal Studios but they have a weird track record.

But the articulation on the He-Man toys is all fucked up. That really bothers me for some reason.

I sure hope* this game lets you play as the one true best G.I. Joe: Lady Jaye (obviously)

In the GI Joe game on Commodore 64 my brother would usually play the GI Joe side and I would play Cobra. I didn't mind though, because in the part where you could select a character, I could pick Baroness. For a mousy, glasses-wearing, 6 year old girl, that was like the best thing ever. I didn't even mind playing the villains. :D

I have never really been interesting in this series, but this looks really cool. I like the idea of real toys being a part of the game, especially GI Joe and Masters of the Universe.

For all that could be said about GI Joe's "Oo-rah let's use the military to solve ALL our problems",

it DID have a great range of role-models that you didn't typically see in pop-culture: strong female characters on both sides, and a multi-cultural cast of characters from all across the globe. (As a gangly, awkward teen, I personally liked Jinx.) :)

On topic of this game, I've heard disquiet rumblings that the game is absolutely lousy with DLC. From the Quick Look, it doesn't seem soooooooo bad -- basically, they broke up the full on-disk game ($30) into two $15 chunks for digital distribution.

Well that's a let down. Was hoping this might actually be a fun time.

Also there's a killer MOBA to be made out of this concept. And if they actually licensed My Little Pony, Ubisoft would basically run France's economy from that point on.

I don't like that they added Assassins Creed to the game with all classic toys. It was funny seeing the legendary pack with that in it....come on.

As a fan of the previous Toy Soldiers games, this looks good, but somehow still feels like a letdown. I can't really put my finger on why that is, though.

Truth! Ubisoft just had to put in Assassins creed instead of putting in a Skeletor faction.

THANK YOU! Someone else who gets it! All I'd seen so far were kids that have just gone "BOO DLC! BOOOOO!!!", without thinking about it and realizing that it's $30 for the full game or cheaper if you just want to buy the piece that you want.

Yeah, I would pay $30 for all of that in one chunk anyway. It's like they're confusing themselves in their own DLC trickery. That's Ubi for ya.

Ah, it's the rare Brason quick look. Looking forward to watching it tonight after UPF!

EDIT: What am I thinking, that portmanteau oughtta be Shoestreicher.

Hmmm, now that's got me wondering if there are any other good ones...

  • Oestryckert
  • Caravarro
  • Drewmaker
  • Walkmann (for the never-before-seen Jeff/Austin mashup)
  • Walkeravella

Ok, I'm done.

Shame they couldn't include Transformers. I was too young to get into GI Joe or He-Man in a big way. For me it was Transformers and Toy Story when I was young.

Will pick up complete edition in a year for $5 and get my nostalgia on. The detail really is amazing, it's too bad it seems to have come at the cost of a better game. To Brad's point, the fact there is only one campaign, and you will likely stick with one to get all the upgrades, means having a bunch of other ones you can't even play out of the gate that much more frustrating and confusing.

Also really not cool with the proliferation of "this random box might have something great or something you have 50 of, BUT ITS SO EXCITING" mechanic. Do we blame Mass Effect 3 MP for that?

I have a dream... That one day, we will get a Call of Duty style G.I. Joe game.

There are so many great stories from the show that could work in a modern CoD game, instead of the trite story about how evil the Arab/Russian/Chinese are... again.

Like that time Cobra built a crazy microwave satellite beam thing and burned all the money in America so he could instate his own Cobra Currency

G.I. Joe is FAN-tastic!

Is it weird that I wasn't even alive to see any of these shows but I would still absolutely love to see absolutely anything involving such hilariously goofy terrorist organization as Cobra? I hope we get a resurgence of bad guys in brightly coloured outfits driving inexplicable combat vehicles.

I'd love to see a game similar to Disney Infinity but for old toy lines like these. The licensing would be insane, but I'd be all over a virtual toybox with toys I actually grew up with.

Brad is thinking of Condor from M.A.S.K. http://www.albertpenello.com/mask/condor.html .

If they had a few campaigns I might be willing to throw $30 at this.

At least they had the good sense of including Ezio instead of French or English dude from the newest ACs.

Okay, I could go for another Toy Soldiers game, haven't played these since the original for the 360. How's the PC version?

Edit: Okay, apparently not good. :/

And now I've got the Cobra theme from the movie stuck in my head. "Crashing through the sky, comes a fearful cry! Cobra! COBRA! Armies of the night, evil taking flight! Cobra! COBRA! Nowhere to run, nowhere to hide, panic spreading far and wide!" Man, I didn't even know about G.I. Joe as a kid (growing up in Europe) but thankfully my grandma randomly rented the movie.

I'll be 36 in October, and am pretty distressed at how effective this game's pandering is on me. I don't know if I can get past the shitty DLC model, but those fucking Masters of the Universe vehicles touched something deep in the core of my being. I wish He-man's face actually looked like He-man.

Agreed. It seems like you'd get more out of fighting your favorite faction than playing as them, since then at least you'd get to see the toys actually moving around the battlefield instead of just sitting still and pretending to be turrets.
