This looks pretty cool to me, I've only played classic Twisted Metal at my cousin's house when I was younger, but I had some great times with it. This definitely looks like Twisted Metal to me, I think they did a good job bringing that to modern times.

I just don't like throwing down 60 dollars unless a game has substantial single player though, goes against my nature to buy a game that will eventually become a dead zone.

@vinsanityv22: Agreed, I would love to see more quick look throwbacks especially when it's something as insane as Crush Hour or other staff favorite games that they feel should deserve some attention & more fans or just show it off more.

Ryan really knows how to sell a game "more, really?" after the first round of nuke was over. Not that I want him to sell the game, just thought that was funny.

I don't really get how those graphics are acceptable on the PS3 of all places this far into the generation. The muddyness maybe fits the tone, but other than that, wow.

But it does look fun.

It's like 15 minutes before they started playing Twisted Metal in this Quick Look!!

I mean hey, I like Quick Looks, but 48 minutes is one BIG FAT VIDEO! I get that the controls are difficult, but you don't have to show the whole tutorial to say that y'know?

There's LITERALLY 20 minutes of menu navigation in here, guys! If you're doing Quick Looks instead of video reviews, I would feel TERRIBLE if I was a developer who liked GiantBomb. I'd come here to check out my game and you've got feature-length videos of all the least interesting parts!

You played 2 matches and showed the same map twice- this'll sound dramatic, but seriously: If half the video is server lists, title screen and tutorials then who is that for? Quick Looks are huge videos now and I think you've lost sight of what the real core point of them is. They're a GOOD PREMISE! Go back and watch the first quick look, for Burnout Paradise.

I know you guys are your own quality control and I'm just some fuckin dude in the comments, but I think Quick Looks are getting really thin, losing a lot of punch, and they don't have to.

You may have a point there. I feel Brad has been notably very good at keeping on-topic with his quick looks, so that they don't just become random saves / menu scrolling that don't inform the viewer about stuff they may be interested in with the game. QLs are the most useful content on GB, imo, so it would be a good idea to be smarter about how they do them.

Quick Looks aren't there to show off the best parts of game. They're for giving you a general idea of what to expect if you buy this game. If it takes that long to get into a online match they need to show that so you're aware of the issue. I don't really see anything wrong with that considering how unacceptable it is to have these issues with the online in an online focused game.

Looks like fun. Also looks like a $40 game. I thought this gen games cost $60 because of rising development costs associated with advanced graphics and physics. This looks very similar to TM Black in graphics. Unless "Can't Drive 55" music liscense somehow costs more than the Rolling Stones' "Black", I don't see how this game justifies it's $60 price at all. Especially when every review I have read has said the SP is short and sucks on top of that. $60 is fine and even a bargain in many instances, but Twisted Metal and Rayman Origins are both clearly developed on the cheap and should cost less. Hell, Warhawk looks better than this and that came out in 2007...and retailed for $40.

You could have like... Skipped the server shit, you know. So boring. Game looks really fun, though, would've picked it up if it were more story-based. I know that isn't what Jaffe's about, but I associate the insanely big rosters of characters and impossible, illogic stories with this genre and the nostalgia than the gameplay itself, as weird as that may sound. It does not make much sense, but that is how I feel.

Right, edit the quick look to misrepresent a flawed part of an otherwise pretty cool game. Cause lieing to the audience is what Giantbomb is all about.

Ryan said "I've not had these issues in the past", and half the stuff I'm talking about is how long they stayed on the title screen and in the game's How-To.

One map, dude.

And EVEN CONSIDERING showing a genuine slice of the game, they could just say "I had a really hard time finding a game in this." "Oh yeah?" "Yeah it took like 20 minutes, I get a lot of network errors."

Talk about that for 60 seconds- skip ahead- show more of the game in action. Same with the tutorial. The more they stretch out these videos, the less I'm really even listening to it.

From my point-of-view, quick looks are supposed to show what playing the game is like, and with buggy stuff like the server list scrolling here, we have no idea if it represents what playing the game is actually like due to user error on Ryan's part [could've just gone into a quick game]. Showing off the gameplay, we see what is always true to the player's experience - it's far more valuable for someone interested in the game and enjoyable for the viewer.

I think I remeber reading a while back that this was originally planned to be an online-only title like Warhawk, except it would be PSN-only. Then in the middle of development Sony requested it be made into a full retail game. If I am recalling this correctly, it explains alot....other than why multiplayer is busted. Server issues shown in this QL, plus respawning midair to your death according to IGN. IMO Jaffe is making a good choice to switch to casual games, because this game is a pretty lazy effort.

Show a cutscene, show the vehicle select, show a match. Then jump into a Quick Match.

If the servers are a big deal, say so. If the controls are a big deal, bring it up! At that rate, the video's like 20 minutes long, you've seen the most important parts of the game, you can still remember all the big points made cos it was all packed together, and the Quick Look is a clean, smooth production that I can happily send to anyone.

I don't wanna share GiantBomb with anyone right now, cos nobody I know is crazy enough to watch a 50-minute video of dudes chatting!

I'm serious, look up the original Quick Look for the Burnout thing, it's such a great jumping-off point for the site. The Vita game QL's are good aswel.

I would be interested in TM Vita should it be $40 and have functioning servers. These substandard graphics (by PS3 measures) would be a better fit on Vita.

How is it that a server browser is a problem in the game? All it does is give you options to connect to what you want to. The game has quickmatch for people that just want to jump into the game. Ryan should have been sorting by ping or ranked/unranked if he wanted to jump into a match. There is no reason to include 10 minutes of dumb menu fumbling because it misrepresents the game as having a connection problem that does not exist. I feel like giant bomb should edit the quicklooks a little more abd cut out some of the useless boring parts that do not relate directly with the game experience. I think twisted metal should be rewarded for having both a quickgame option for most console players and a real server browser for those who want advanced options. How is that a bad thing?

By the way, twisted metal black ran at 60 fps on the ps2.

I liked the game, but could have had a better plot and Dollface had the worst ending. They did nothing with the Preacher and should have had Outlaw as the protagonist for main story.

If they couldn't find a match like that it is not their fault. Also quick match generally has trouble matching you up this early in some games. The guys rarely use quick match options. As do many people.

Also, when the games servers started actually working properly in the video the game looks awesome. "I cant drive 55" Is the perfect song for this game.

A server browser is not a bad thing, a shitty one that shows you games you can't join is. That server browser was obviously not easy to use. Also I don't see how you can deny that this game has network problems. How many "network error" messages do you need to see to be convinced?

This game seems determined to repeat the mistakes of the past rather than celebrate what was good about that era for a wider audience to enjoy. It looks and sounds dated and out-of-touch. I'm sure fans of TM will love it, but to me I gave it a chance and it's completely unappealing.

I don't know how to feel about this. The part where you actually play the game looks just as fun as the old Twisted Metal games. But the lack of scope and storytelling in the single-player is a little off-putting, and the matchmaking seems pretty broken at the moment.

Maybe tonight's TNT will convince me one way or another.

@I_smell: Are you an idiot? QLs are supposed to show what a game is like when a regular player starts playing. No elaborate setup and such things. When it takes forever to get into a game, then that's the game's fault and it should be shown to the public.

And if you really don't want to see the menus, how about you just skip forward?

I feel like Carmageddon and Interstate '76 did the best with vehicular combat, but even they were a product of their time. If this has a lot of fans, I hope it does well and they can enjoy it, however I personally feel that this sort of gameplay has passed its due.
