Quick Look: Unravel Two

Man, I wish there was an achievement for getting here first or something.

I’m glad the devs seemed to have figured out the physics/controls a bit better since the first game and made it feel more fun/fluid to use.

This game really should be called Yarny 2.

Why are these videos called quick looks? They're anything but quick

My fiancee and I have been playing this game in co-op for the last couple of nights. She doesn't normally play video games, but we've been having a great time. It's a really well paced, solid platformer. The controls feel a bit more tight than they did the first time around, and the characters feel less floaty. Also, the mechanic that allows a player to hitch a ride on the other is really helpful in platforming sections that she doesn't feel comfortable tackling. The main story missions are pretty damn easy, but the side challenges for each area can get really tough in a hurry. Overall, we're really happy with the game, and I hope EA funds a third one.

@lyndbako: I feel like you're three years behind the times with this question, but... 45 minutes is no time at all when we're talking about games which, generally, have 6+ hours of average gameplay length,

Spouse and I both finished this game. We're both veteran gamers so it wasn't too difficult for us, but the difficulty definitely varies nicely between the main levels and the challenge levels so it plays well for two people with different skill levels. Also, the ability that lets your two characters become one character is super useful for the challenge levels, because even though we could both do those levels on our own they're extremely difficult if you try to play as both characters all the way through (again, this only applies to the challenge levels).

My only complaint about this game is that the story unfolding in the background felt really unclear to me. I had the same question Ben did at the beginning, because I thought that was an adult woman and it turns out it's supposed to be two children escaping from a foster home situation (never would have guessed that without looking it up online).

Other than that, the controls actually feel really nice for this and we never got too frustrated or stuck on anything (and we play a ton of co-ops games).

Just to confirm in case Ben takes a gander at these comments the name Yarney comes directly from the original reveal with the creator. It's not just lazy video game idiot BS.

Music on the first couple of minutes is pretty good. Good job yarn instruments, I assume.

I'm halfway through the QL. Please somebody tell me Ben eventually realizes he can let go of the swinging despite Brad straight up lying to him about it? It's making me extremely anxious.

Happy to report they both figure it out about half an hour in. I'll take it.

I wish this game was a sequel/homage to Crayon Physics. In other words, I wish this game was a different game.

Dirty doves done dirt cheap

I think I made it about a quarter of the way into the first game, but then stopped. I just kind of lost interest in it I guess. I may give this game a try at some point though, I like what I saw here. And man, this game does look very good, the first one does as well.

Yarnie don't play.

@wolfman3483: The ghosts are the memories of the spirits that possess the yarn... probably.

All yarn share a common consciousness. Any yarn tied to any other yarn acts as one. Knitware is too fucked up otherwise.

I think they could have hung on the top pipe (before the blockage of two pipes) and have the bottom dude push the bottom one to the right for the puzzle they got stuck on at around the 40min mark. .

Not sure what Brad means about this being made in secret when it was listed on EA's investor call two years ago.

Put Yarny in Knack 3 you cowards

Going to pick this up once it goes on sale.

I had no interest in this until I watched this quick look. Think I'll pick it up.

"Quick Looks: Sit back and enjoy as the Giant Bomb team takes an unedited look at the latest video games." - First time I've noticed this description. The use of 'unedited' struck me as odd, since most of the videos on the site are unedited, but eh.

This game is gorgeous and looks fun. Reminds me of Trine. Although, it's pretty odd that you can't walk around the traffic cone eight minutes in. I guess Yarnies are cursed to move in exactly one 2D plane? I feel like most 2D games sort of pretend that the world itself is kind of 2D.

Game looks good but oh my god, that's got to be among the most boring and generic soundtracks of all time.

Fun fact: the second character's name is Yarnold

@lyndbako: I'm surprised no one else has mentioned this yet, but the name comes from the very beginnings of the site when videos were usually manned by once person, and about 10-15 minutes long. If you go into the Quick Looks tab and jump to the last page, you'll see a video about Burnout Paradise which has "Quick Look" in the title. You're right in that these Looks are generally not Quick, but it's part of the brand now and renaming their main chunk of public content a decade after the fact would be a poor idea.
