Also if anyone is actually upset, Ben didn't see the warning on the website until after he recorded this video.

the reason everyone is saying that respecting the warning might be nice to do (besides basic compassion for other people) is because something very similar happened with undertale, where toby fox requested people not post about a certain secret for a period of time or else he wouldn't continue to update it. and people posted about it, and he never updated it. yes obviously you can't stop every person on twitter from talking about something but i would hope that at least the press would be able to restrain themselves for just one day

Yeah, given how much respect games press normally gives to press embargos, it's a little shady tossing up an immediate video for something the developer essentially asked the press to hold off on for a day. Sure, it's an impossible ask to prevent any discussion given that it's widely available, but waiting a day doesn't seem like a big thing either.

1. The existence of a Toby Fox game called "Deltarune" is not a spoiler.

2. It sounds to me like the person you should be mad at is named Toby Fox, then.

I love how the game tells them their character will be discarded and they completely ignore it and wonder who this Kris person is.

Y'all need to dial it down like 3 notches, this is ridiculous. Ben already clarified that missing the "embargo" was an honest mistake and that he'd gladly remove the video if Toby took issue with it. I did the exact same thing. It's in a list of bullet points starting with an epilepsy warning, so I'm sure plenty of people overlooked it. Furthermore, it says we are "advised" to refrain from discussing it, not that Toby's heart will break if anyone posts a video and he'll need an army to crusade on his behalf. Chill.

@sessh: On the download site, there's a bullet point amidst a series of technical warnings that reads "FOR PUBLIC SAFETY, YOU ARE ADVISED TO REFRAIN FROM DISCUSSION OF THE PROGRAM FOR 24 HOURS," which has caused a bunch of uptight fans to shit on folks who missed it and excitedly shared the good news of this game's existence.

I don't know man, i just looked at the website, and given the strange, in-fiction presentation of the whole thing, I wouldn't assume the "24 hours" thing is meant to be taken super literally.

Edit: Giant Bomb and its staff are members of the games press! Their main job is not to act as Undertale fans and it is their job to report on & play this kind of stuff.

No one should care that the press is talking about this freely and they definitely shouldn't care about a bullet point on that webpage.
Besides, I'm pretty sure that specific line is in there just for shits and giggles to stir up the cult. Toby Fox didn't think for a second that people wouldn't talk about this, unless he's a moron.

Does this count as discussion? I mean why are people upset about them uploading a video of the first 30 ish minutes. There's no theorizing or spoilers outside of the video besides "this game exists". It's not like Ben is tweeting about who his favorite character is or what happens. The "discussion" of this is taking place in the vacuum of the video. The only people getting "spoiled" are the ones watching it.

There was no NDA or embargo, the dev just put a message on the website to not discuss it for 24 hours as a taste maker/setting the atmosphere for the game. It was just part of his whole cryptic twitter teases he did prior.

The game was a teaser demo for a really early access game and was released to give tobyfox some feedback and impressions, which it did. Not asking for discussions while you're wanting feedback seems dumb. It's a publicity stunt that worked.

What would not talking about a game for 24 hours serve? If it was pre-release I would understand but it was released and open to everyone.

Deltarune is Undertale backwards!

On a side note, a small indie studio probably can't be too upset about exposure on a major games website.
