Blue Meanie looks almost like the jeff forstmann cartoon image they use every now and then. It's kinda uncanny how much it looks like it. Obviously not like his real life but the avatar sometimes used here to portray him.

I enjoyed this Quicklook.

Woof, that carnival-caricature art sure is...a style. Also, as someone who doesn't play wrestling games but enjoys other fighting games, it seems like a very button-mashy type of system; there aren't enough animation frames to watch the opponent's moves and block or counter them.

I know it's a different "style" of wrestling game, but I picked up Wrestling Empire and have been having a blast with it. It has N-64 styles of gameplay and insane levels of That Good Jank. The fake names for the wrestlers are also pretty hilarious too.

I actually really enjoyed this game. It just flows really well and feels very good to actually play. It's a lot more arcadey and moment to moment than Fire Pro, which feels very stiff compared to this. I would say the game is a bit deeper than Alex gives it credit for here though.

My problem with Fire Pro is that actually playing it isn't that great since it's entirely timing based, so if you get a good handle on the timing against the cpu you pretty much just steamroll over it. Retromania has taken this into account in it's grappling system so you can't just crush the ai even if you're good at the timing.

Most fun I've had with a wrestling game in a long while, even the small rooster drags it down a little. And I'm not even a wrestling fan :P

As a child, I grew up thinking Doink was a legendary wrestler because he was in Wrestlemania: The Arcade Game.

Somewhere in the world, a child will one day grow up reminiscing about the legends of the Blue World Order because of Retromania.

I immediately thought the same thing.

Still think it's lame as all hell that a bunch of these indie wrestling games are coming out with zero female wrestling representation. The world of women's wrestling has never been better and more diverse, and it really sours me on the ideas of these games. Also feels bogus that I don't see many people talking about it.

They should've looked at that MDickie wrestling game from a few months ago, Wrestling Empire. It's a legitimately fun as hell, insane and hilarious thing.

I've heard the big excuse that it "glorifies domestic violence," but that's as stupid as saying the way things are now glorifies domestic violence in homosexual relationships. It's weaksauce and it needs to go in the same pile as """""""""""""HILARIOUS"""""""""""""" blackface. Something else wrestling took way too long to throw out.

You want "wrestler who looks like Jeff," look up Eli Cottonwood. During his NXT season, he looked like a stretched out Jeff Gerstmann.

This art style looks pulled right out of Genesis third party games. Beavis and Butthead comes to mind.

A large part of me really wants someone to convince Jeff to buy/watch upcoming AEW PPV this Sunday just so he can talk about the Exploding Barbwire Deathmatch between friend of the show Kenny Omega and the former Dean Ambrose in WWE, John Moxley.

Or, maybe I just wanna plug that someone in actually promoting such a match in 2021.

@theshauncannon: Yep, it was [Wesley] Blake & [Buddy] Murphy as the NXT team. He was way off remembering Hawkins.

Also, Matt Cardona is in Impact now (having never signed with AEW), Nick Aldis is still NWA World Heavyweight Champion (Powerrr is set to come back soon), and Idol and Koloff have at least appeared on Powerrr previously. Billy Corgan's NWA is still chugging along.

The banners in that House of Hardcore arena are actual banners that have (likely still) hang in the former ECW Arena. Great recreations of them. The arenas overall in this game look the best to me. Some of the wrestler likenesses here are better than others.

Tangential: Anyone know if there is a way to remove default wrestlers from Firepro? This got me in the mood for some wrassling but there is (at least) one wrestler I do not want on my hard drive.

I like and want intergender matchups, but there are def ways to fuck it up. Lucha Underground got it wrong constantly, with spots like Alberto El Patron spanking Taya.

@roomrunner: And that's a great example of getting it wrong. They also couldn't shut up about it nervously on commentary (just the concept alone). Hell that spot could've worked if it was gimmick for a match (IE: whoever loses gets spanked) cause then it's presented as just another match.

Fuck's sake Cynthia Rothrock high-kicked her way through the 80s fighting men and looking more credible than some of her male contemporaries, it's truly not that difficult.

@gundato: The most recent Fire Pro? You can use Team Edit to move default and DLC wrestlers to the "Retired" section. I don't think that will affect story modes, but it should keep them from showing up everywhere else.
