Cool, Abby is back. I wonder if it's an office in their CBS building or like a coworking space?

Also Rhythm Heaven is so damn good. Really hope they make a new one for Switch eventually.

"Everything's a little sooner than I think it should be."

I don't want to be the guy that keeps harping on the input lag, but it seems like it's gotten real bad with this new setup. I know Ringside was a piece of cake last time. Abby, if you plug your headphones into the gamepad (and it'll take some adjustment to get used to the new timing, for sure) I think you'll have a much better time. Hope I'm not being obnoxious.

@spunkyhepanda: I have tried this in a previous episode and there didn't seem to be any change. I will do some tweaking on my end, but I think for better or worse, we are stuck with this setup. And keep in mind for this episode I hadn't played in over a week so I'm sure I was a bit rusty. Thanks!

@ybbaaabby: Okay! I remember you trying the gamepad and it looked like you started hitting the buttons a lot earlier, but I don't know, only you can know how the timing feels. I just remember getting a new TV and it making this game practically unplayable, so I'm a bit fussy about it. Everyone deserves a pure Rhythm Heaven Fever experience, you know? I know how annoying unsolicited internet advice can be, so I'm sorry and I'll leave it alone. Thanks for the response!

As an educator who had to do on camera teaching from home last spring, I hated that "regularly feel like your privacy is being invaded//feel like you're invading the privacy of your students" was suddenly a job requirement. Sounds like you were having a similar feeling Abby, so I'm really happy to hear that you took steps to feeling more comfortable! Hope the new space treats you well!

Poor Abby. Between the obscurity and difficulty of the games and the chat not helping, this was tough. You could see it. Maybe take some time off from this game? Don't wanna get so frustrated you don't even enjoy the game anymore.

I know it would be a big off-stream project for Abby to somehow track down a CRT to play this game with minimal input lag (or get a more direct feed through some other method), but I really hope she or GB East could call in some favours and somehow arrange that, just to feel how natural the game is supposed to play.

I guarantee that the sync between video, audio, and the controller expecting an input are nowhere near each other. Like, a couple Rhythm Heaven minigames are a real asshole each game, but usually they're a struggle to Perfect or Great, not to get the minimum pass. Struggling on every minigame until grinding out like 10 attempts is atypical, and I doubt it has to do with Abby's ability. With her rhythm experience, her struggles are almost certainly game sync and not her own sense of timing. The game is charming as hell, so I'm glad Abby has been able to enjoy it, but I'm pretty sure every minigame she is spending mental energy to literally oppose her instincts, because if she actually hits the button on the audio beat (or the visual beat) the game will tell her it's wrong. It probably feels terrible, and each minigame she has to mentally retrain herself to hit every beat with a +/- 50-300 milliseconds offset for EVERY audiovisual cue.

Not trying to chastise Abby for the sync situation; I know it's not easy to solve and maybe not worth the time unless it were some super long feature like Mass Alex, but I'm just trying to empathise with how bad it feels to play out of sync rhythm games. You can feel that you should be getting credit but it keeps saying you're missing beats.

It really is a shame the 3DS can be so difficult to capture from, because I think Megamix really is apex Rhythm Heaven. It's also much, much more responsive about whether you were early or late or right on the beat, which helps a lot.

Do rented office spaces normally let you paint walls? I guess as long as you paint it back when you're done.

Anyway, oof, shame about that input lag.

I like how someone in chat suggested you try calibrating the game. This isn’t freaking Rock Band. Lol

I hope Abby moved to the space because she prefers the distance between home and work and not because people were being shitty about her place. I will miss hearing her talk to Tater randomly though

Oh man, that Donk Donk game drove me crazy. The music and sound effects are just all around terrible, especially compared to say Ringside or any other mini-game. Only halfway through the episode but man, that was bad (the mini-game, not the playing). I feel for Abby having to go through that, it’s so bad. Ughhh...

@wchigo:

Donk Donk is one of my favorite mini games.

I really don’t mean to come off as an asshole or offend in any way, but a big part of these games is having some kind of natural rhythm. If you have it, you can literally breeze through almost every mini game on the first try. If you don’t have it, it’s a longgg uphill climb like we’ve seen here.

Nothing wrong with that though, rhythm is something that can be built up and improved with lots of practice. But it’s not the game’s fault if your sense of rhythm just isn’t quite there yet.

It’s also completely possible that the stream setup is introducing a ton of lag, but a CRT def isn’t a requirement to be able to fly through these.
