Ooh I am liking this talk of another anime side - quest after this is done.

Bebop is great and all but I think I've seen it so many times and heard so much talk about it that even Jeff's brand new reactions might not be enough to really buy in.

Also, it's not nearly embarrassing enough to have to explain to his wife what he is watching. It should be Kill la Kill.

I really wanna get to Part 4, shit's so good, but if they wanna take a detour there are plenty of different shows to do, like the recent bocchi the rock, a classic from a couple years ago in Eizouken, or Kill la Kill for some over the top depravity. They should check out Mob Psycho too now that it's finished.

Im in the middle of the episode so maybe they correct themselves at some point but I feel like it really needs to be pointed out: Hol Horse's stand ABSOLUTELY allows him to control the bullets he fires. This was one of the first things established about him in The Emperor & The.Hanged Man

So, the average lifespan of a Turkey is 6ish years. The average lifespan of a citizen of Turkey is 75...

Unfortunate that Lucy didn't enjoy the episodes given the circumstances. Bit of pity, but can't be helped.

There's no reason to take the Boingo episodes seriously. Those are pure slapstick and toon logic.

This was almost certainly the first time Iggy's inner voice was revealed. His English dub is a different take than the original, but I like it a lot. Hints of Joe Pesci.

Pet Shop is a nonverbal monster villain in a horror movie.

@splodge: Cowboy bebop is the go to for people as they think it's one of the least anime shows for non anime people, and It's still unique and close to western taste with the boom in star wars and space stuff, but personally I find it's a bit too dry. We want something that a new viewer can go OMGosh my wife might see this...but i wanna show it to her too. Plus something that will impress and show the entire spectrum of animation (jojo stiff but detailed) now we need fluid.

I suggest chainsawman. It's modern, weird, different, and on the surface will drive some of them nuts till they get the subtext or have it explained by the other diehards...plus it's shorter than Cowboy bebop and can be revisited in the future when it gets crazier in season 2-3. Also, they can have a woman's perspective as I noticed most men watching alone seem to get offended on their behalf then you find out the women watching are completely the opposite. (men clutch pearls at denji habits, women tend to clutch pearls at the women in his life) it's an interesting point given all sorts of assumptions. Plus its action is great and will keep Jeff entertained as he learns this is all in a kids magazine and the US is super prude XD.

@topcyclist: The Emperor is probably a better stand than Sex Pistols, just because by and large Part 3's stands are a lot more basic and simple in concept, whereas the specificity and weirdness of later parts' abilities makes a lot of them "weaker" in the traditional sense, but lead to the users having more creative application. However, Hol Horse probably loses (or more likely forfeits and runs away from) that fight because he's a coward and lacks Mista's DETERMINAZIONE

I know it's a little out of step with the types of shows they've been watching, but I really want to get their take on Stein's Gate. It's an anime that rates highly for a lot of people that I didn't check out until a couple years ago. I remember watching the first parts wondering why it garnered so much praise but at a certain part I understood. I think it could be a fun journey for them.

With all due respect, yall need to just sliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiide right into Diamond is Unbreakable.

JERF and Lucy like that Looney Tunes shit? Like that badassery? It swings back and forth between that repeatedly. MULTIPLE times an episode. BIZARRE INCEPTION.

@cyberspacecat: I like recommending Bocchi or Eizouken. I'm curious how Jeff will react to a series that isn't a battle shonen like JoJo's and OPM

@xenonxylophone: Yeah, i know he likes it but he also knows the entire story. I think john also loves attack on titan, and some of the crew hates it which gave jeff the opinion it wasn't for him but i suspect that would have been his favorite show.

John tempers his excitement as he understands when he's talking to someone who only consumed a few episodes of the material vs his entire knowledge.

tangent:

It's like how people read 10 chapters of chainsawman or about 2-3 episodes and pounced on it for being overrated vs those saying it's so good. The people saying it's so good were rating on how well it was adapted and the expectation that the rest was in good hands. The 10 chapter readers were more about how it's overrated since all the hype moments weren't seen yet or the reasons it's unique...uniqueness being the one thing people push so much stock in for a series being worthy of praise vs their own list of finished and beloved shows.

Honestly it's an unfair uphill battle to be worthy of praise in 2 or 3 episodes (3 episode rule) vs some shows where people watched them as kids and didn't rate so harshly (people watch 700 eps of naruto, 1000 one piece, 100 of dbz, etc.) and they covet the shows they watched when younger as so much better but on rewatch today, they would have dropped in 3 eps using today's harsher ruling.

I don't find this to necessarily be the case, at least not for myself, I didn't read Chainsaw Man until after the anime season ended and I enjoyed it a lot episode to episode, it's just a really well made, entertaining and intentionally cinematic show.

I feel like CSM is going to be one of those things like One Punch Man, MHA or Cowboy Bebop in many years that are recommended to beginner or non-anime viewers, not necessarily because it's the absolute best it has to offer, but because it's digestible and comes with a good deal of western influences.

@cyberspacecat: Oh yeah 100% agree.

I was speaking more to those who hate it and do the whole YouTube video did Chainsawman live up TOo ThE HyPe crazy eyes and then say no and go on to say how it couldn't, and then you have tons in the comments agreeing...and some hating because they compared it to their top 3 anime, and it only made it to their 10th on the list or some weird thing. Honestly the fact that so many were impressed by it without seeing the crazy stuff leads me to believe it will go down well if it continues. I say if, due to the negativity and like all popular things, hate. Many hated the smooth animation and real feel (movie like) stuff. The character acting and heavy weight to movement went over their heads because one frame of animation wasn't drawn perfectly, and they expected better. Those types of people are claiming it was all a failure cause dvd sales weren't high...even if the sales were not documented in the aggregate from the official site and dvd sales don't factor that much these days. Overall it's this weird toxic take down on things that are popular that i don't like especially when you see the shot they gave such a young director to manage this, and he was able to put so much into it like a weird work of passion in an industry (the arts) that we need to go back into more over just money. Then he gets threats and told it was a failure and would be better animated like cyberpunk which works for that story but not all stories (it was stiff at times).

But yeah speaking on your take that it's very western, i agree. Even more so than cowboy bebop I feel beginner anime are chainsaw man and attack on titan. That sounds crazy on paper, but the premise is weird, the acting isn't over the top and doesn't do the usual tropes (falling into breast and overreacting, giant sweat marks then falling on the ground like a cartoon, topics about the power of friendship. etc.) It has a grounded nature that many who see anime as always weird, might be surprised by, and the topics aren't handled often even in western media. So yeah 100% agree just coming from another angle. Also, to be fair, I saw the hype and read the story and the material covered in the show, chapter wise, doesn't really showcase why anyone would be crazy for the series besides it being more mature than expected and unpredictable. I see many reviews that only start to like it at the second to last arc or 70 chapters in...big ask.

I didn't understand the question about whether the book is evil. It just seems to be depicting that future based on Boingo's goal to have the JoJo crew killed, which is an evil goal. Since Hol Horse fucked up the timing, that future still had to find a way to come true since the predictions are absolute.
