Really hope they eventually do Terror from the Deep. If they support it as well as they have Civ 5 this should just be the start of it!

@wampa1 "Terror from the Deep"

If they keep the premise, but improve the mechanics. TFtD was one of the weakest installments in the series IMO.

The question for me is, should I get through XCOM now or wait for this? I got like 5 hours in when it launched buuuttt have been thinking about starting over and going back through. This kind of changes that.

@nekroskop: Having zero attachment to the old games, I just love the premise. The underwater combat could be really interesting with the systems set up in EU.

They talk a lot about how features they put in the expansion are things that fans wanted. They also talk about how there is more they are adding along the lines of "Enemy Within" that they can't talk about.

Any bets on features allowing the enemy within...the base? Could aliens attacking XCOM be back?

Even though I loved Enemy Unknown, I never got around to finishing it. From the way this sounds, maybe I should just wait for this to go back and finish it up?

I've played Enemy Unknown for over 200 hours. It's my favorite game of last year and I actually visit the official forums often.

They really did add stuff out of a 'mega suggestion thread' the users created. Although, not very specific. We asked for more types of classes and gave examples like Recons, Operators and what not. They didn't actually take any of them, but they did add a new class. Also asked for more customization of soldiers and it seems they certainly added that.

A lot of people asked for base attacks and although they did not confirm, they didn't deny it when asked.

I am extremely excited for this expansion, although I kind of have question marks at the price point. Not that it matters. I would have gotten it even if it was 60 bucks, just because I'm so invested to XCOM. But I would be that hypocrite you often see: complain about the price and pay it anyway.

@zacagawea Dude, play it now. It's such a great game. With the most recent patches, you should really play it now and then again when this comes out. It's SO good.

What did the recent patches change?

I stopped playing soon after release because I found the game equally too easy and too frustrating. Completed it twice, once on normal and once on hard. Hated the bugs (enemies spawning mid-map and screwing over everything despite the fact that they couldn't possibly have been in that area as you'd have line of sight on it all game) and hated the fact that the enemies were placed statically around the map, never patrolling until you discovered them.

Also, the economy was broken once you discovered how abusable satellites were.

Loved the game at first, but left with such a bad taste.

When I heard "Enemy Within," I CAN'T have been the only person hoping for a "Fantastic Voyage" situation, right?

@ohvee said:

Woah, the same Ananda Gupta that co-created one of the best board games of all time worked on Enemy Unknown? That's awesome!

The same Benedict Arnold who plotted to surrender West Point to the hated British?!

Better not be more than $10. Because all this sounds like is a pack of mods for the original.

While I'd love a new attempt at Terror from the Deep, now I kinda want them to give X-COM Interceptor another try. Interceptor was a buggy mess, but the idea of X-COM base building with first person space combat is really great, and part of that game was really, really good.

After hearing about all the genetic modifications, and robot legs people I figured the whole "Enemy within" tag was a reference to YOU! THE COMMANDER! But it's nice to hear you're still fighting the good fight. It's funny how all this moral ambiguity in media makes me just wanna feel like a good guy doin' good things in a game for once. Glad to hear they're behind that too, I think.

this sound lame - the single player kinda sucked for a second play thru. New weapons and units doesn't make it any better... ugh.. and that totally shitty ending

Wow, really?

I'm not doubting you or anything. If you didn't dig it you didn't dig it and that's all there is to say about it. But my experience was significantly different. In fact, I still enjoy it and I've played the single player many times. Around 10 games. Trying different approaches, researching different items in different order to gauge effectiveness. Unless Steam is lying to me I have put over 300 hours into XCOM: Enemy Unknown. And quite eager to spend a few more once Enemy Within finally comes out.

I'm sorry you didn't have fun with it a second time.

Interesting on the two new soldier modding tracks. I'm hoping psychic gets a little love since as is it's a little weird, but otherwise sounds interesting. Coming from a good place and it's a great first step, though it sounds like the voice packs will not be expanded to other nations.

"Native tongue" would be a cool option to have for language settings. I know they dont have the language for every nation represented in the game but still. I want the French sniper speaking French and my Russian dude speaking Russian and yeah it dont make sense for a team fulla people who cant understand each other but still

You still can't establish multiple bases.

You still can't have multiple skyrangers.

There is still no base defence.

And there never will be.

I like that they will explore the underdeveloped thread I really enjoyed hints about in the original game. All that stuff about letting the technology destroy the humanity they have left.

Another thing, clearly he hinted that you will be able to convert aliens to your side (enemy "within"), at least I'm pretty sure about that.

I laughed at this comment. It's very obvious it's not your type of game. I still play it today, finished it loads of times and it still is fun and is actually getting more fun as I progressed to higher difficulty settings and Second Wave options.

We are discussing Enemy Within at length on the official forums and I can tell you that fans of the game are excited as hell for it. I guess that's not surprising... that's why they are fans. But me being one of them I'm totally getting this day one and there are more people like me for who this stuff is the most amazing thing that could happen.
