There's a decent amount of overlap in terms of explaining what the game is but there's always some fun new ways to die!

Those first 10 minutes. Brad has never been more Brad than him playing Spelunky. Long time viewers will understand. Which means it's hilarious to watch for everyone.

Thanks Brad, Rorie and Alex!

I also don't like how it controls with the dualshock, but I think it something you can get used to... also I changed the running default to the other way around. Now it's just like old spelunky.

I could watch Brad play Spelunky any time, all the time. I love all of the Breaking Brad videos, but the level of frustration that that villainous Super Mario Bros. 2 batters Brad with is not nearly as fun as watching him get killed by a game he is actually enjoying.

For me I really prefer the sticks on the Xbox controllers, but I'll put up with it for now!

Brad, stop jumping down to the next floor without exploring the current floor, especially when there's no way to go back up without burning a rope.

Also, the Shop Keeper won't aggro by you just holding an item as long as you stay in his little cavern so no need to rush it.

Brad's running into everything like I did, til I toggled the walk to be the default.

Been playing a ton this week, but it's always a fun game to watch.

Fun video, hope to see more Spelunky! I'm still in a love/hate relationship with the game, same as the first one. The number of terrible new enemies and new run-ending mechanics are still driving me insane, but I guess that's just Spelunky.

So far my only genuine disappointment is the soundtrack. The first one was fantastic and this one is frankly more generic. I know it's the same composer but the shift to a more straightforward style makes it way less engaging for me. Here's hoping the back half has some bangers but I'm already over the mines music.

Otherwise, I'm having a grand old time! And it's killing me inside!

On a side note, puzzling through the 30 second speedrun for the tutorial was a lot of fun. 28 seconds woo!

@bacongames: Sad to say I'm with you on this. A couple songs from the first game felt like tracks from a long lost Genesis soundtrack and this doesn't have anything nearly as memorable so far. Really fun, rewarding, hateful, awful, fantastic game though.

I frankly still can't believe you two did it. It is very impressive. For a lesser Spelunker like myself, just beating Yama is difficult and stress-inducing enough...the co-op in that game would just increase that stress by an absurd amount.

Brad I'm saying this because I love you, but going out of your way to kill every enemy in a Spelunky game is not a positive habit. In fact in almost every run in this video it cost you over and over again. If it can be avoided, run the fuck past it.

A perfect example was at like 36:50 in this video where you kept trying to hit a snake with the turkey attack and the bat caught up with you and you lost health. Killing the snake was super pointless and could not have benefitted you at all and it came back to bite you like 3 seconds later. Stopping bad habits in this game is key to making improvements! I personally am trying to learn how to not get rocked by certain ink-shooting enemies too often at this point.

Great video, love when y'all play Spelunky.

Pro Tip (no spoilers): If you've played Spelunky 1, you're probably used to holding down a button to run instead of holding to walk in Spelunky 2. If you go to the controls menu and scroll all the way down, you can switch it to "hold to run" like it was in the original.

I appreciate the commentary and really have enjoyed watching Rorie beat the first game multiple times. That being said, as a complete spelunky noob, I plan on beating the mainline game before delving into all the crazy secret stuff. I understand why Rorie looks at the game from his perspective, but watching Brad run all over trying to do everything at once, I don't think he is helping himself. Don't get me wrong, it's still entertaining to watch, but I think he might be putting the cart before the horse.

I feel like the first rule of Spelunky might as well be: "NEVER TAKE HIRED HANDS!" Anytime I get them I murder them as quickly as possible, or I know my time is limited in the caves :P

@chrystolis: The best example of that was in the last video where the hired hand ran and grabbed the gold idol in the volcano area, triggering the lava trap. It was hilarious to watch, probably less so to play.

Hot tip: the Power Pack-buffed whip can damage enemies that are stunned, instead of having to wait for them to wake up.

@rorie You can bomb turkeys for health, you don't need the power pack. Looks like a good way of stocking up on health in world 1.

@brad@rorie Great Quick Look!

Some tips I found quite useful: You can also cook the turkeys (whilst dead or alive) with the torches you get buy whipping those fireplaces; a nice way to get some health without using bombs. Also, you can rope down to spikes without getting pierced; makes getting stuff in those spike pits way easier (I believe you could do that in the first game, although I only found out about that tip whilst playing this new one).

Happy Spelunky 2ing!

That was a really fun quick look to watch! This game seems to be drawing from the Nethack philosophy of wacky interacting systems, even more than the first one.

I'm new to Spelunky but killing the shop keeper doesn't seem fun. It means you don't have a reason to interact with 50% of the game. Why collect money? Why do any of the money related challenges? It's annoying because it is more efficient. Feel like they should have done more to make killing the shop keeper more punishing. Also, as a newbie, I guess I'm now valuing bombs enough because I always use them to extract sweet succulent turkey meat.

This game has some wild surprises. I discovered a secret area that led to some really wild stuff that I am dying to know more about but also don't want to spoil. I can only imagine how much crazier it gets (furtherst I got is 3-2).

Wow I thought I already saw a QL of this! Also, as someone new to the site, it always trips me up seeing the Matt tag and then @rorie is in the video. Takes my brain a minute to catch up lol.

I'll probably buy this even though I didn't get into Spelunky HD or whatever it was called. The graphics are still super cute and maybe if it's a better port it'll click with me this time or something. *shrug* Also online co-op will help it be more fun for me.

@lonelyspacepanda: I think this is the best tip I can give for this game and I hope @brad see's this too. I really recommend playing straight without killing shopkeepers until you have at least beaten the game once. There is SO much to learn in this game that adding on the completely random element of a shopkeeper spraying shotgun shots on top of that in every level just isn't worth it.

Plus this isn't Spelunky 1. You can get enough money easily early on to buy stuff from the shops. You can have great runs in this game with just the money you find.

Also don't get in fights with enemies without a good reason. There is no rewards for kills, just another chance to be hit.
