@misantrope: It was a hard-fought battle but Star Wars: Jedi Knight II - Jedi Outcast won out in the end.

Jeff and Brad pining for a beautiful space game with escort missions and diverting power, and then complaining that they don't make those games anymore. What you want is Elite: Dangerous, it's all that and has controller support and VR support.

I have to say, it was a little irksome to hear Jeff and Brad both say that the first Battlefront didn't have flying--it most definitely did, after one of the expansions was released. It does seem like no-one on the Bomb crew played BF much past the original launch, which is a shame.

@ahynds: one of the biggest complaints from the playerbase in general, not just GiantBomb, was having the last SW Battlefront say, "You want space-dogfights? Well, that's going to cost you another $20, pal."

If I can use my Hotas in a Tie Phantom in first person im in, if not all these loot crates turn me off a lot guess we will see if the singleplayer is any good.

@chummy8: regarding crates, nothing in them is timed or expendable. When you get an ability you have it forever.

Let's, say this November people put down money to play something multiplayer. Okay, if you were to bet where that money goes & where people's time goes- where do you think that is?

  I don't see SW battlefront 2 doing enough to entice people, I just don't. This second is "the level of game" they should have done two years ago.

Wish they did some sort of spin off of galactic conquest in the multiplayer, id buy it in a heartbeat

@monkeyking1969: I don't think many people will say to themselves "I'm just going to buy one random FPS and that's it." In my own case, for example:

I have zero interest in aything PU: Battlegrounds has to offer.

I have zero interest in playing yet *another* re-hashed WW2 shooter.

I'd get into Overwatch, but only if I can get in some games with friends.

I've pretty much had my fill with anything and everything "Destiny" related.

...and I like Star Wars, enjoyed the recent movies, and am excited for the integration of all three "eras" (Prequel, Original, and Sequel) in one Star Wars game.

In short, Star Wars is a huge franchise with millions of fans. I pretty sure SW:BF2 will do just fine in enticing people.

Played a bit of this earlier...and I sucked. Like, horribly, even after getting the hang of the various abilities. But as a test for my new PC I can't complain, ran super smooth with everything on Ultra (with DirectX 11 that is).

Does anyone else notice that Jeff uses the right stick in a way that makes it look like hes aiming with a dpad? There is almost never fluid movement, its always very jerky.

I miss Battlefield 2. I feel about DICE like Jeff feels about Turn10 it seems. I love their earlier stuff, some of my favorite game experiences ever, and the new stuff is gorgeous, but they've lost their way somewhere. The beta feels like a mess. Not in execution, but in design. It's beautiful and sounds amazing, but the gameplay elements feel not as good as Battlefield 1, and the balance of classes and unlocks feels all over the place. This may very well be mitigated by future patches and expansions, but I don't think I will be picking this up, which is a bummer.

Yes, I think the 2015 Battlefront UI was beautiful in it's simple "visual dictionary" style design, although I suspect it's simplistic elegance was mostly due to development restraints.

This game seems to take much more direct inspiration from the original 2004 and 2005 games in both UI design and included maps. Now I don't know if it's actually genuine or just an attempt to appease fans of the original series, but it's hitting me in the nostalgialia pretty hard anyway.

The Southpaw configuration for Starfighters is what Jeff is looking for. Unfortunately, it's currently not functioning properly in the beta. Also it's frustratingly hilarious watching Jeff try and grapple with elements of Star Wars lore that he is completely unfamiliar with.

I wish Jeff would have showcased the secondary gear/abilities some more...

Split screen available only on console... what the hell. My PC can stomp a console and I have two damn monitors. I have 3 Xbox 360 controllers, two DS4's and an Xbone pad. Let me play with people, locally, on the PC. The hardware is here. It's insane that this still happens.

Tie Fighter was a cool game, but not as cool as Descent Freespace 2. Man in that level where you're scanning shit (a staple of future flight sims of the 90's) in a weird space cloud and then someone starts yelling over the comms how something massive is warping in - and then Lucifer jumps in and it's HUGE.

My teenage mind was blown.

It's both amusing and frustrating that Jeff couldn't tell who was on his team. I don't think a deep knowledge of Star Wars is required for that, but I suppose I could be wrong...

Even as a huge Star Wars fan, and someone who loved the original Battlefronts, I had no interest in the first DICE reboot after the beta. And this beta is leaving me in the exact same spot. It's a cool looking Star Wars game for sure, but once I'm over the wow factor of "man, this is an awesome-looking Star Wars game (graphically)!" I'm done with the game. Something about how it plays just doesn't grab me. At least since this one has a single player, I may pick it up when it becomes cheap to check that out.

Loot boxes/crates are definitely going to be in the running for Please Stop this year. Probably has a good shot to win it as well, unless some controversy strikes between now and then.

Brad has to stop saying "The first battlefield" because my mind instantly thinks of the Playstation 2 games.

I'm not gonna lie, at the beginning and they are talking about crates, when Jeff quips back "goddammit Brad" it sounded like Ryan to me. Maybe I'm just missing the guy. Anyways, good vid gentleman. I tried the space flight over the weekend and FUCK, I thought maybe you were exaggerating, but the default sticks are so fucking awful. After switching this up it felt great though.

It's so weird seeing Janina in the cutscenes for this game. It's like if Dave Lang were suddenly a rancor trainer.

This goes so far beyond lootboxes. Look into what the actual tier 4 bonuses are here; up to 40% extra damage or healing?!?! This is absolutely pay-to-win. The boba fett level 4 card has 100% damage reduction when you are using the booster jet. Literally invincible. We have finally reached *free* phone game levels of bullshit, but starting at $60

Why bother putting prequel shit in this? No one likes the prequels...

It's really sad to see Criterion as basically EA's equivalent of Raven Studios. RIP.

Man, they sure love talking about TIE Fighter. I'd rather have a new Freespace, but these last few years have been amazing for space games anyway, so there's not much to complain about on that front.
