Quick Look: Stubbs the Zombie in Rebel Without a Pulse

Am I the only one who finds Jeff being drowned out by WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH constantly to be hilarious?

This game and Destroy All Humans occupy the same space in my head. They were novel ideas at the time that by the third or fourth level had lost all appeal and were just boring. It's weird that in the last couple years both have returned.

I'll buy this for 5€ from a sale, maybe! Fun solo QL, the screaming did kinda add to it in an amusing way.

They probably could have easily done some actual good graphical work to this game. Maybe added a little clutter to the massive empty streets, added functional lighting to the environments, maybe some AO at least. This looks ugly. I imagine I could get this looking better or at least this good on an emulator.

I never played this game I always thought it was well regarded though but it looks terrible!

Man, my initial reaction to this release is to ask "Why?" and I guess that the answer is "Why not?"

I do get a kick out of seeing these old games, though, especially on original hardware, because I always find myself squinting and trying to decide if I'm looking at a PS1 or PS2 era game. And then I'm in awe that this shit was impressive at one point in time.

When I was setting up an Alexa I found out this soundtrack was one of very few things in my library because that was when Amazon would give you a free digital version if you bought the CD and years later it’s still there.

Jeff speaking calmly over the terrible screaming is hilarious.

I played this one time like 15 years ago. It was a 3 hour session with some friends and it was baffling and repetitive and weird. But man, it sure was a memorable evening.

Some choices were definitely made in the sound design of this

I remember playing through the whole game one afternoon, couch coop with my brother. So yeah, I guess I do remember it fondly. Even though the game is... just ok.

I couldn't tell if Jeff was playing Stubbs or Serious Sam. The 2000s were great for screaming in games.

This has not aged well. It just looks big and empty and not terribly interesting and BOY HOWDY, that audio and the screaming and just... woof.

this is ultimately a very minor thing but I'm surprised there was no awful jokes on the billboards and movie marquee in-game. Like you'd think this game would be primed right for them but instead the whole cityscape was just blank and empty

That collectors edition is for the true Stubbs-heads.

This release has got to be the laziest remaster ever.

I totally miss B-games like this one! They were always a bit cheaper and usually a fun, many times off-beat experience. Definitely could have added some background music to the game, but otherwise, a weirdly solid game that has its flaws.

This is the kind of 'decent' that i would buy for a few bucks on a sale and somehow end up playing through all the way.

I almost wonder if this re-release is testing the waters to see if there's a blip in interest in Stubbs without breaking the bank. If somehow this bare-bones (heh) version manages to turn a profit, perhaps there's an opportunity to get a few investors on board for a full-fledged new Stubbs game with all the bells & whistles. Like that's the pathway Destroy All Humans took. First putting the old game on modern hardware and following it up with a full-blown remaster. I think there's room for a humorous zombie game.

Why port this game now? I always thought it had a neat idea, but the execution was already bad when it originally came out. Now it looks more like a joke than an actual game, sadly.

I really dug this game in its day, but even back then there were a couple of spots I vividly remember driving me up the wall. Very much the same vein as "Destroy All Humans," but I definitely don't remember it being this cacophonous all the time.

If I had to put a number on it, I'd say this game was a 7.7 out of 10.

5 min in was like, something aint right... then it hit me, its just Jeff on this... boring :(
