Jan and Jess try and pull off the elusive double monkey ox strategy!
Sometimes we look at a game before it's done. When that's the case? Well... it must be Unfinished.

I hope this includes everything from the stream
Game looks fun, picking that team name was a must.

Double ox monkey is superior.
Welp, this looks like something I can easily be addicted to.

While Jan is falling down this rabbit hole, I wonder if he would consider trying out Storybook Brawl. Also an auto battler, also free to play, and also easy to pick up compared to TFT/Dota Autochess.
Storybook Brawl does have turn timers though. :(
Explaining Auto Chess games to the uninitiated always makes you sound like a crazy person
It's so strange watching a video of a strategy game that I'm familiar with where the strategy isn't explained. Jan gets excited about a unit, mouses over it for a quarter of a second and I don't catch what it does, doesn't explain what it does, and Jess doesn't ask what it does or why he's excited.

My interest in this game is exactly Jess's, which is holy fuck! they're wearing hats!
Edit: big fucking ups to the don'tdon't joke
this quick look is astonishment incarnate
I love all these videos with Jan and Jess. Very fun to watch! Here’s hoping they’ll be doing a lot more Quick Looks together.
Jan and Jess might be the new Vinny and Drew combo...
#1 reason to watch this Unfinished even if you have ZERO interest in the auto chess genre: Hearing Jess squee over all the incredibly cute representations of the pets. So heartwarming. <3
Also, Jess @voidburger O'Brien and Jan @janman O'Choa need to rope Danny @dannyodwyer O'Dwyer into some video look and double the power of the O'Team. Just had to put this thought out into the world.
Help I have started to play super auto pets beta
Well, this was certainly an information vacuum. 😞
Somehow, this demonstration managed to make even less sense than the Bombcast stream-of-consciousness description of the game. For the eventual quick look, maybe it would be worth-while to not just hem and haw over decisions that are entirely opaque to anyone who hasn't already played the game extensively, and instead actually describe the thought process and mechanics behind those decisions.
Similarly, actually showing how the game works and why things are happening is probably more helpful in conveying what makes the game so catchy than just flicking through graphics and then having random stuff appear.
downloaded this while watching the QL. This is pretty fun
@el_blarfo: There's nothing wrong with the combo — hell, had it been a playdate video (or even UPF, where everyone would be asking for clarification anyway), this would have been perfect. It's more that an “Unfinished” video could really use more information about what the game is and how it works than what ended up here.
Sure, as it being unfinished, things are likely to change before release so it might not be worth a deep dive, but this still feels more like a format that should go into those things than just being a bunch of unexplained chaotic shenanigans. There's a time and place for that content too; this needs more structure and information.
@tippis: I get where this is coming from. I enjoyed the video quite a lot, but I wasn't trying to understand the game or mechanics. It was entertaining and the Jan/Jess combo whips but as a video that is ostensibly meant to explore and inform, it could have used a slower pace.
I think my friend now has 199 hours in this game. He started playing it only a month or so ago. I don't think I want to get into it, since everyone seems to lose their life to it when they do... o_O
The game looks interesting, but more importantly team JanJess is beyond amazing. Love it!
Is this Inscryption?
Please make a GB Animated of this...
Also, I am now playing Super Auto Pets... :/
@the_nubster: I also think that this game likes to revel in the chaos you unleash during the fight and that's why you see a bunch of numbers, effects and animals appear & dissapear without being able to calculate all that from the start. Especially when you're facing an animal that you don't have yourself, you might be surprised with the outcome of a battle.
But that's kinda the fun of it! You don't know what you're up against, so all you can do is focus on your own line up, read your own abilities and think about the chain reaction possibilities of those abilities. But apart from that, this is a genre where the 'random' nonsense and abilities from enemies just take time & experience to get a grasp on. You're not supposed to immediatly be able to eyeball who gets to win a fight and know exactly how much damage every turn causes.
Juice me, squeeze me
On the live stream I asked if this was a prelude to a Jan-Egg connection but it just sent Jan into an egg derail that didn't make it.

@sanderjk: he called it when he said this thing was going to blow up. Here we are.
@onemanarmyy: I have unfortunately started to play super auto pets beta. I find that the pace with auto and fast-forward enabled is perfectly tuned once the super auto pets have burrowed into your skull. It doesn't take long to understand all the animals, or maybe it does and I've been playing too long. Eventually you get the gist of the team very quickly and then the only question is are my numbers big enough. There are a few standard setups (hurt combos, +stats, summoners, etc) which helps organize them in your head. It's somewhat satisfying to understand the chaos after a while but also terrifying and send help.
I'm scaroused by this game. Thanks y'all!
This game (and presumably all other auto chess, idk) remind me a lot of the deckbuilder Xenoshyft, it's like this but Alien flavor
This game looks DANGEROUS.
I want to play but I don't have a PC. I still play Dota Underlords occasionally.
This is just a test
Come for the AutoPets, stay for Jess' reactions to the cute animals.
