I imagine Jan will have this game mastered by the time the pandemic crisis passes.

For now, enjoyed listening to that lovely Cleric Beast theme today.

Seeing the visceral counters and regen mechanic click with Jan was so satisfying. Watching someone play these games for the first time is kind of a rare treat these days.

Was so happy when Jan got a few viscerals with the gun. Now he just needs to get better at charged R2 ones. Get in that butt!

i first played bloodborne immediately after playing thru and beating dark souls 1.

the first stretch of level in bb was truly some of the hardest stretch of the game for me. it really is a matter of just needing to bang your head against the game and figure out what it’s wanting from you.

New/blind playthroughs of Fromsoft games are some of my favourite things on the internet - I am loving these, and hope Jan keeps going.

Tips!
- Your blood vials always do about 35% of your max life, so the more total health you have, the better each one heals you.
- Tap O to dodge or quickstep, hold O to sprint, quickly release and then tap O while sprinting to jump
- You have more attacks! Try attacking from a sprint, after a backstep, after a dodge, and while falling. Jump attacks are done by tapping forward and R2 at the same time.
- Backstabs are similar to parries - when you hit an enemy in the back with a charged R2 they will take a knee same as when you shoot them. You need to get right up on them and tap R1 to complete the backstab.
- Throw an oil urn before throwing a molotov - it will do much more damage. You can't buy these (yet), so don't waste them.
- You can see on your health bar how much health you can recover after taking a hit. It goes down really fast, though, so you need to get in there quick if you want to get any benefit.
- Speaking of regain, you can get the health you spend to make bullets back if you can attack an enemy quickly enough.
- You know the door leading on to the bridge from the dark house? Those two wolves are too big to fit through it. Feeling cheesy?
- Remember that very first room you started in? Where you first woke up on a medical gurney? Maybe you should go check that spot out.
- Bloodborne is fairly nonlinear. If a boss is giving you trouble, consider exploring some more and then coming back and trying again.

I've never played Bloodborne (or any Souls game), mostly because i'm a gamer who is easily frustrated and am a bit worried i'll suck, have a hissy fit and not get very far. But i'm getting very close to trying it out, I do kind of want to see if I can work my way into mastering it (and myself).

Having said that, i'd love to play a remastered version on PC if there was one Sony...

Watching Jan fight Cleric Beast is reminding me how bad this game's camera is. Did they not fix this with transparent walls in Dark Souls 2 or is my mind playing tricks on me?

@janman: You’re doing great on your first run! You fought through this faster than I did when I made my first run through and I was a souls veteran.

Here’s a quick guide to the stats. Each stat has a soft cap and a hard cap. Every stat except Endurance has a point of diminishing returns. Vitality hits the point of diminishing returns at 30, and every stat except Endurance hits this point at 25.

The soft cap is the point past which any benefit to the stat is minimal to non existent. The soft cap for every stat except Endurance is 50. Endurance’s soft cap is at 40, past which it will not grant any stamina. The hard cap is 99.

Strength, Skill, Bloodtinge, and Arcane are the stats used for determining weapon damage and each weapon has a stat requirement in order to use that weapon. Each weapon has scaling, denoted by a letter underneath a picture of the scaled stat. Scaling goes from D to S. The better the scaling, the greater the increase in damage with each point invested.

Strength weapons do high on hit damage but have longer attack animations in their transformed state. The Kirkhammer, accessible by beating the Cleric Beast, is the earliest weapon with an A in Strength scaling. Skill weapons trade high on hit damage with quicker attacks. They have a higher DPS, but require a riskier playstyle, as the player needs to be close to the target to take advantage of openings. The Threaded Cane is the earliest available weapon with A scaling in Skill, and is the most accessible high scaling Skill weapon. Bloodtinge is used to scale firearms damage, and scales the damage output of two weapons’ transformed states (Chikage and Bloodletter). This stat is a trap stat for new players, as firearms are mostly useful for parries; it’s used in specific trick builds. Arcane increases your likelihood of finding enemy drops, and is a requirement for using hunter’s tools. Arcane is a stat to put points into later, if ever, during a first playthrough. It scales elemental damage, not physical damage, and weapons with Arcane scaling will only benefit if slotted with an elemental blood gem. Ludwig’s Holy Blade is THE early game Arcane weapon, and is a good weapon for “quality” (lower health, 25 Str, 25, ski) builds.

I love that whenever Jan is analyzing a fight, whether here in Bloodborne or in Pokemonday Night Combat, he gets this cadence to his speaking that is instantly recognizable as his... Janalysis Voice.
