Visual context in regards to the Edinburgh bridge postcard near the end of the podcast:

The Forth Rail Bridge
The Forth Rail Bridge

The Kincaid Bridge in GTA: San Andreas
The Kincaid Bridge in GTA: San Andreas

What's even weirder is that the Golden Gate Bridge equivalent in the same game (seen behind the Kincaid Bridge) is a hybrid between the real deal and the Forth Road Bridge, most likely the thing a fair number of the developers had to commute over to get to Edinburgh every day.

I'm pretty sure Howard the duck does not have sex with Lea Thompson in the movie the scene is her pretending to be into him and almost taking her shirt off but Howard the duck stops her.

Regarding the email about Shadow of Mordor, just accept that people like things you don't. It's all subjective. Stop worrying about what other people like.

In regards to the conversation about Gabe Newell and his knife collection. Abby asks a question "Why are ___ people so weird?" What word did she use before people? I couldn't tell and the guys immediately changed the subject to they think it's a rich people thing. Hope someone else could tell. Thanks!

Poor Jason he already has so many things he can muster to do while live streaming, you still want to add workload? Besides with the whole video thing the Mystique of a voice modulator would wear off quickly, since you could see the person talking.

Dark City is an amazing film. Also the director Alex Proyas' previous film The Crow was a pretty good comic book film that came out before the current comic book movie boom began in the late 90's/early 2000's with the Marvel Blade/Spiderman/X-Men films. The recent string of celebrity passings had me thinking about The Crow early this week because I remember as a young kid that the death of Brandon Lee was the first time I felt emotional about a celebrity dying. R.I.P.

Yeah it's such a weird email, I'm surprised it was picked at all.

Just some errant comment clawing it's way onto the show to yell "No the thing you like is bad, actually!"

@danryckert I agree with you about the recent superhero movies, They are fine but completely unremarkable. I recently saw Wonder Woman and had to keep myself from falling asleep, it was way too safe and boring.

I'd much rather have another dodgy Watchmen than another boring over budgeted Wonder Woman.

I think it's a little funny that they switched to postcards to rein in the Kisses On The Cheek(tm) a little, and ended up with a solid 15 minutes of cheek-kissing.

Rather than a golden age of gaming, I think Paul Barnett just hit upon the fact that being a kid is nice. As long as you grew up in a decent home in an alright part of the world, you probably never had less responsibilities and more free time to play videogames and hang out with your friends than you did as a kid. Is Street Fighter 2 the world warriors a better game than Street Fighter V? Hell no, it had like three frames of animation, no online service and you couldn't even play the same character against one another. But I love SF2 more than SFV because I played it a ton when I was a kid with my friends and SFV can't recreate that nostalgia, although it is doing a pretty good job with the recreated SF2 stages.

(There's also the fact that SF2 started a genre, but whatever, substitute your nostalgic game of choice here)

I think the actual golden age of gaming was the decade-long wii/ps3/xbox 360 cycle, also including portions of the DS and 3DS lifespan. There were so many amazing games released on those consoles. Backwards compatibility for the GBA and Gamecube was easily available because of the DS and Wii. Indies besides Cave Story became worthwhile. It was a great period.

If only because the sight of a bunch of bike/scooter game journalists and fans pulling into a gas station would be hilarious.

@7x_: Dan doesn't even like superheroes in general, right? Correct me if I'm wrong here, but I think he's one of those guys that only likes Batman and insists he's not a superhero because he has no powers. So at some point his opinions on superhero films are just "How Normal Cool Dude is this?"

Actually I might be thinking of Jeff.

Anytime one of the crew starts off by saying "I have some news about myself" or something like that my heart trembles with fear that another member of la familia is leaving. Vinny nearly gave me a heart attack in this episode.

The PSU/power brick/video output part of my sister's N64 actually broke last year, so they're not indestructible. That part is replacable though.

As for N64 Classic games, all I really is Forsaken. And that game seems to be in a different kind of ownership hell, similar to where System Shock was 5 years ago, where Acclaim, Iguana and all those companies split the rights up all over the place as the companies went under.

I'd also love the N64 ports of Quake and Quake 2, though it seems I'm the only one who has any fondness for those ports.

Also, did the ads/sponsors pull out? Maybe they haven't had ads for a few beastcasts now and I only noticed this now.

I just got to this part and wow, I hope they don't take another e-mail/correction like that just so they don't encourage more people to write in questioning about their GOTY choices from years past. I don't know if people just have too much time on their hand or maybe they're new members catching up on old content that they're emotionally effected by such choices in the past enough to be asking about it now despite having the deliberation podcasts. Not to mention the blatant concessions that are made for each of those categories every year.

Really. I like Shadow of Mordor, but when they read out the list of games from that year I was confused as to why Mordor would ever win over them. Opinions!

Well, regardless of that he makes valid points that aren't often made. Everyone who loves comics just decides to love comic movies since they're getting attention now and budgets, even if they're just safe, boring middling action movies with no identity.

Even though Watchmen wasn't a good film I remember it. I can't remember any other superhero movie besides maybe Spiderman 2 which is ancient by now.

@poveren said:

I personally enjoyed the game quite a bit--being able to call in your own mordor bros to help was a pretty cool feature however I pretty much ALWAYS dominated or killed any radiant enemy I encountered which made the system a little less enjoyable, rivalries never really happened (Playing "Normal" or the equivalent)

I haven't watched the deliberation podcasts but I can assume a big reason why so many critics loved the game is because it was different. This is something TotalBiscuit talked about in regards to Mad Max, Players liked it and critics despised it. They are used to playing EVERYTHING so when something does something new it means even more to them than it does someone who just plays games. Thats my take, anyways.

It would make sense that some people's perception were different from others since in my case, Nemesis didn't really do anything besides allow me to have mordor bros to help kill the new meat that was always killed in the first battle. I DID have one guy that killed me once and it was really cool to see him run in on a fight between me and a goblin but if that never happened I would've never had any respect for the system, I'm sure other people had this issue.

Abby laying down some movie truths, I dig it.

The Valve thing - yeah with Wolpaw and Faliszek leaving, narrative-driven games are probably not...actively in the works. And sure, HL3 is a worn internet joke, but I would still like to see it - ending the series on that note (end of Ep2) is just not okay :S

Of the potential 3's I could see L4D3 being the most likely one, although I fail to see how they could monetize it the way they did with TF2/CS:GO/DOTA. Weapon and player skins? Eh.
