I've said it once, I'll say it again, Dan is 100% right about Metal Gear being the greatest (videogame) story ever told.

I’m surprised no one asked Dan what his wife would think of him replacing his entire body with robot parts. I’m not surprised that thought didn’t occur to Dan.

i want to just say how surprisingly and perfectly abby summed up the great way to solve the sidequest-problem and how games can treat collectable logs. Could not imagine a better way to put it and she kind of just nailed it in her explaination, highlight of the podcast, nice 1 abby

The Mario franchise has a better story than the Metal Gear series.

You see, Donkey Kong was a discussion of "Gene", how big apes (obviously genetically modified ones) end up sad after a while and the self-destructive nature of barrel throwing.

In Donkey Kong Jr. (1982), the tables are turned in an enthralling dissection of the concept of "Meme". We explore how Mario, previously known under (and dehumanised by?!) his battlefield codename of Jumpman, is affected by the memetics of his culture to view genetically modified apes as antagonist when they are in fact culturally interchangable with himself, and, like, super relatable and sad.

Are genetically modified apes (or Mario himself!) hero or villain? What/who/why is Mario? Does war and jumping change?

The next games dealt (obviously) respectively with "Scene", "Sense", "Peace", "Race", and "the last and biggest theme, RACE & REVENGE." Unfortunately no one ever made it past the 3 hour cutscene at the end of Donkey Kong Jr. it goes without saying that it was, like, super deep.

Pretty uncool of Alex to suggest that the first WW2 Battlefield in 9 years (16 if you don't count the small scope 1943) would be a disappointing reveal. But old guns are boring and we had too many ww2 games 10 years ago so they are banned for life.

Also very surprised that none of them seem to know that Howard said Bethesda has two big RPGs before the next Elder Scrolls.

Currently, the Battlefield V launch trailer on YouTube has 302k likes vs 379k dislikes. Seems like a pretty disappointing reveal.

@curryspiced: Haha yes, I would agree the trailer was disappointing but not for the reasons he was thinking I suspect. I got monkey pawed on this one.
