I watched Ghostbusters for the first time last week. My take: dialogue's really well-written throughout, I think the beginning part and montage stuff is confusingly paced, the special effects are all incredible that I think completely hold up, and Stay Puff Marshmallow Man is one of my favorite gags I can remember seeing. I don't quite get the incredible praise everyone gives it, at least to the extent where people are just so offended by the Paul Feig reboot coming out, but without a doubt a great movie all the same.

Oh man, I think I only faked being sick once, if even that (I recall staying home one day when the firefighters came to get an owl that had gotten stuck in the chimney at my dad's house, but I don't remember if I was actually sick or not), but every time I was actually sick everybody thought I was faking it,

At one point I had pneumonia and was referred by the clinic to go to the nearest hospital, and though I was in severe pain and had issue walking I felt awkward about asking for help to get there, so I opted for taking the bus, and at the bus stop I met one of my teachers that was all "I thought you were home sick, what are you doing out and about?".

Lindsey is likely experiencing the harassment to go onto voice chat because she has been identified as a female. On a number of occasions I have witnessed this either within MMOs or competitive fps games where a female gamer tag will be asked to join in voice chat, often with the purpose of turning the conversation to something related to sex or sexuality. I think it would have been a good topic to touch on in the podcast, as we need all the reinforcement of equity in gaming possible. Good answer nonetheless.

Also, I'm with Jeff, fake sick days are for doing shit. For me it was always video games or playing at the park in my backyard all day. Or, if I really fucked up it was for putting together a science project or report that was due that day or the next day lol

This is always the first thing that pops in my head when people talk about ghosts.

Anytime anyone mentions a scummy TV medium I can't help but think of Raymond Day from Limmy's Show. Everything about the character, from the mannerisms to the cold reading 'techniques' are so spot on it's eerie.

Nobody would have been afraid to help that child in my country. It's sad to hear how paranoid and hysterical people have become.

Also, regarding sauerkraut, it should never be eaten hot that's freaking ridiculous. It should be cold or room temperature. If you want good kraut look for Bubbies.

Also, so called sauerkraut that is readily available in the US is garbage. Proper kraut is made with two ingredients: cabbage and salt. You ferment it at around 50 F for many weeks (I've made my own many times). It is full of beneficial bacteria that are very healthy. American store bought kraut has been cooked to a mush which kills all the good bacterial and taste. Fresh kraut is crisp and tangy like a good pickle. BTW, proper fermented dill pickles are miles better than vinegar preserved pickles.

Go somewhere like Poland where they eat sauerkraut by the pound, or as they call it kapusta kwaszona, and you can scoop it out of 5 gallon unrefrigerated buckets at many markets. Many people eat it with every meal. If you were ever able to taste good fresh kraut you would throw out that pastuerized garbage.

If you want to try the good, raw stuff many places like Whole Foods and Sprouts sell Bubbies brand sauerkraut.

I'll never forget though, one my first experiences was with Descent 3 in 1999... I think there might have been only a single woman in the entire scene, at least identified as such, and the moment she would speak up, virtually all the guys became gibbering morons. Either trying so desperately to hit on her, or having outright hostility.

I saw much hasn't changed playing CS:GO again more recently, though weirdly the addition there was that they'd often get voted off and banned from the server. And then I would be too for asking wtf was going on.

edit: I should add, the reason I mention it is that whenever I do see/hear that stuff, it makes me think that I'm mostly playing with dumb ass kids, and suddenly feel very awkward being a 34 year old man, still playing video games. Like Vinny mentioned though, I do my best to raise the level of discourse...
