Is anyone else getting slightly tired of Alex's "everything is terrible forever and I want to die" jokes?

I really don't get the whole hard push 4k thing. Right now it seems like its nothing more than a resolution boost, I've not seen a single 4k thing that seemed to be doing anything different beyond that.

Heck my monitor max's at 1080 and games still look amazing running at that. I literally create artwork at this resolution. Just don't see the point of going any higher still.

Every time I hear Freespace I cheer up a little bit, then seconds later I get sad because I believe a third game will never come out, but heres hope that I might be wrong.

Though I'm pretty sure every game dev possible moved on from it. Its up to the fans to handle possible sequels. Some rich dude should just buy the FS license and then just assemble a team of hardcore fans to make a game that everyone needs.

I believe that a crowdfuned FS3 would probably turn into a Shenmue 3 situation because hundreds of thousand of people still want a Freespace sequel. I have no idea if the devs who made FS would even stay faithful to what made the Freespace series great in the first place.

There were points within the FS community where mods alone reached NMS levels of hype, the community is full of enthusiasts who cherish stuff that merely resembles a possible sequel.

People who played it in 1999 are still talking about it so I wouldn't even be suprised if Volition would release FS3 in secret at some point and it would still sell very well past above the million mark. Thats how good people believe this game series is and how much the internet would explode whenever a possible FS sequel is going to be mentioned.

@lazyaza: It really isn't anything more than that. Just the gradual evolution of tech. The only real difference is with TVs since they don't generally make smaller, incremental gains like monitors do. Instead they jump to a new standard every few years. It's been 1080p for a few years now and the intention is to make 4K the new standard.

It works this way because for 4K TV to make sense you need to get to get 4K broadcasting.

One of the deciding factors that lead me to buy a PS3 last generation was that it came with a Blu-Ray player. I already owned a Xbox 360 and I was content with the library of games it had to offer so part of me felt foolish buying a PS3 just for the small amount of Sony exclusives. So what changed my mind? The fact that the PS3 had a built in Blu-Ray player.

Well now I have a vanilla PS4 and Sony's asking me to buy a PS4 Pro even though it doesn't have a 4K Blu-Ray player.

But the Scorpio WILL have a 4K Blu-Ray player. So here I am again, the owner of one console considering buying the competition's console with the deciding factor being a high end disc player.

I primarily game on the PC side of things so I'm already coming from a more technically-minded viewpoint. That aside, given that Sony is maintaining the same core gaming experience, I view the PS4 Pro as having a bearable cost for access to a higher level in performance or quality.

Again, no quality PC games comes out with only a single graphics setting. Instead, you can tweak a number of settings and typically have options - low quality, medium quality, high quality, etc. You can play the base game on a PS4. You can play with additional graphics features or a higher framerate on the PS4 Pro at 1K. You can play UHD-ish/4K on a UHD/4K monitor. With the same game experience on all platforms, you can pick what graphical version you want to play.

It's a little early and HDR is particularly hard to sell without being in person, but you can get a good 40" UHD "TV" for ~$400.00 (I use a Samsung KU6300 as my PC monitor.)

Definitely going to buy a PS4 Pro. I don't care about UHD blu-ray. I haven't bought a disc in like 8 years.

I remember "The Simpsons" having a minor resurgence back in its late teens/early 20s seasons.

My favorite John Schwartzwelder factoid from one of the commentaries: he used to do a bunch of writing while sitting in his favorite booth at a particular diner. When the diner closed (or maybe changed hands/style), he bought the booth and moved it into his home so he could continue writing in it.

I had to look up Overwatch Funko Pops because I wasn't sure if those were a thing. They are totally a thing.

Just put that TV on the house loan, Vinny. You know you deserve that 4K OLED with HDR.

In regards to 22Cans putting out a new game that isn't Godus: it's like Molyneux looked at what's going on with No Man's Sky and said, "NO ONE IS GOING TO OUT MOLYNEUX ME!".

I keep asking is 4K (for anything not just games) something people are clamoring for or is this something like 3D where tech companies are trying to push this on people but no one is actually interested?

@regular_kirk: TBH, if the main thing you want is a UHD Bluray Player, get the Xbox One S. The current $300 model has one included.

I completely disagree with Alex about the EarPods. They fit well and sound pretty decent.

And I'm all for more powerful consoles.

I was somebody who desperately clung to The Simpsons up until the movie was finally released, so my opinion is probably invalid. (I've since disowned 13 on)

Seasons 9-12 are still alright by me. At the time I thought it was good "nonsense comedy", and I it was an interesting direction for the show, because they had parodied everything by that point; so it only made sense to point the barrel at themselves for the most part ("The Simpsons are going to Africa!").

The biggest problem with those late 90s seasons was that South Park, Family Guy, and various Adult Swim shows came along, and went whole hog into lightning fast nonsense/slapstick comedy, and made The Simpsons look tame and voiceless by comparison.

In responce, The Simpsons tried to find its own style by leaning back into their characters and aspect of them being a family/community. It rarely succeeded though. There were a handful of good character based eps in seasons 14-16, but the timing and wit were no longer there.

Now it's just another sitcom.

After that email about the changing face of game journalism, I'm suddenly way into the idea of a Zeta Giant Bomb situation where the current crew becomes mentors to a new cast of promising upstarts.

Woah, woah, woah. The original Transformers movie is gorgeous, not sure where the idea of it not looking good or holding up is coming from? It was done by Toei, who while they had some rough TV stuff, their movies are really good.

Like yeah, it not as smooth as like, Disney or Ghibli, but that movies aesthetics are still some of my favorite ever made.

Also Transformers: Prime is super good. It gets into weird political stuff in the later seasons and it's rad as hell.
